00:00After four years of war in Ukraine, do Europeans still want Kyiv to emerge victorious?
00:10The 24th of February marked four years of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine,
00:15and although peace talks are underway, an end to the fighting still seems far off.
00:20A new YouGov survey suggests that Western Europeans are split on how much they want Ukraine to win the war,
00:27and how much they care that it does so.
00:30Out of those surveyed, 79% of Danes say they care a great deal, or a fair amount,
00:35that Ukraine defeats the Russian invasion, followed by 70% of Brits and 51% of Germans.
00:42But this sentiment appears to be shared by fewer than half of French, Spanish and Italian respondents.
00:48The numbers reflect how exactly Europeans would like to see the war concluded too.
00:53Denmark and the UK are the most likely to want the West to support Ukraine until Russia withdraws,
01:00even if it means more fighting.
01:02Whereas those in France, Germany, Spain and especially Italy are more likely to want a negotiated peace agreement,
01:09despite this meaning Russia may keep control of Ukrainian territory.
01:13Nevertheless, that doesn't mean that they'd be happy with this outcome.
01:17At least a relative majority in each country surveyed said they'd feel negatively about such an end to the war,
01:25while only 10 to 22% said they'd feel positively.
