00:03Four years ago, today, Russian troops crossed the border and the first missile struck Ukrainian cities.
00:14And millions of Ukrainians woke up to the sounds of explosions.
00:19Russia started its full-scale invasion, an all-out war which seemed unimaginable in the 21st century Europe.
00:26But human tragedy doesn't need another explanation. It needs memory.
00:32So today, here is the timeline Europeans must never forget.
00:37First missiles. First air raid sirens. First mass evacuations to the West.
00:44And almost immediately, first signs of fierce resilience.
00:49From the border guards on Snake Island refusing to surrender,
00:53two ordinary citizens protesting in the streets of occupied Kherson.
00:57From President Zelensky recording a video in the dark streets of Kyiv,
01:02saying he's not going to flee.
01:04To Russian troops encircling the capital.
01:07With the occupation came what later proved to be horrifying atrocities in places like Bucha and Irpin.
01:15And in the south, Russian forces targeted Zaporizhia nuclear power plants and laid a brutal siege to the coastal city
01:24of Mariupol.
01:27Russia expected Kyiv to fall in three days.
01:30And most military experts said it was not a matter of if, but when.
01:36But we are now in 2026.
01:40Moscow destroys civilian energy infrastructure, causing massive blackouts and leaving millions freezing.
01:47And the war has evolved, redefined by drones and technology.
01:52And Europe. Over four million Ukrainian refugees hold temporary EU protection.
01:58Three quarters are women and children, since martial law requires military-aged men to stay and fight.
02:04And while Kyiv and Washington both want a ceasefire,
02:09Moscow simply refuses to stop the fighting.
02:12And so, the timeline of this tragedy keeps ticking.
