01:11hockey game the olympic hockey game and um i gotta tell you man i was rooting for canada because i

01:18like they've really been through the ringer i mean imagine if your neighbor to the south was like yeah we
01:23should take you over make you the 51st state it's just horrible and they're up there i didn't
01:30realize this but they're having a bit of an existential crisis in the sense that after
01:33venezuela they're like i mean is this insane person just gonna like break into our country and take it
01:39over so i was sort of you know i don't know i was rooting for them to win it's all
01:45they have man i mean
01:46hockey is their whole thing yeah it's their identity for sure and then and then and in winnipeg
01:53this is just insult to injury okay in winnipeg the goalie yeah for america's team which by the way
02:00he's the reason that uh america won for sure there was absolutely no defense was almost the only thing
02:07we watched the entire time it was and the canadian goalie excellent excellent but winnipeg is watching
02:15their goalie beat the living daylights out of their country national country the country's team
02:22and they're just like oh my god so i went there and i mean overtime and all this stuff i
02:28had a pretty
02:29good joke remember i'm in canada but i had a pretty good joke and i go i understand this overtime

02:42of players that corresponds to your leader's penis size in inches and i said so you guys should have
02:49had a strong six and a half players and i think we would we would have one player but a

02:55you know not a dwarf but a smaller man you know what i mean so they at least that it's

03:03at least they kind of were going okay that's funny let's not talk about it anymore so so were you
03:09watching it like at a bar were you at a hotel in your hotel room or we um we went

03:14to a bar and i'm glad we didn't because that would have been a terrible energy at the end of

03:20thing but we went to the comedy club we have a huge screen and so all the comics were invited

03:26there and you know i could it was awkward for like a couple minutes before i said hey i'm i'm

03:32for canada i'm not you know i'm not here to cheer against the united states that's your home country
03:38regardless of anything i mean that that's your team buddy you gotta understand when the president
03:45of the united states says maybe we'll just take over canada and make it the equivalent
03:51equivalent the equivalent of idaho was what he was talking about doing okay idaho's the 50th state
03:57i mean you gotta kind of be open to cheering for canada i mean i'm american all the way but
04:04i felt like that's all they have give them that i know yeah well you know what they'd have two

04:09gold medals if they would have you know just become our 51st they would that's right yeah they'd have
04:15gold medals in women's and that's right see there you go and that was really bad too we are lost
04:21everything our women beat the living daylights out of their women in their sport it's a lot it's a lot
04:30so but i'm excited you know it's funny to to perform in winnipeg last weekend and then uh you know
04:37detroit royal oak this weekend i think it's just it's really funny because somebody i was texting with
04:42this uh comic kelly colette she's hilarious and uh she was like oh have fun you know have fun in
04:49detroit and if you just drive a couple hours or you get free health care i was like i was
04:53just in
04:54winnipeg but it is funny how michigan is kind of just kissing the border of canada you can get right
05:01over there to toronto um but royal like mark ridley's comedy castle to me is one of those killer
05:09always fun big shows sold out like i love going back there and i think a big part of it
05:15is you know
05:16if you marry a michigander if you're if you're yeah if if what you were ultimately attracted to
05:22to the point of life commitment is a michigan chick it's like yeah you i vibe with the audience i
05:30just
05:30do and a michigan chick will hit you in the face but only after she's warned you a couple of

05:37that i feel like they're courteous but dangerous how about that there you go write that down
05:43so uh uh the uh the latest uh special which i just watched philosophy circus is out right now

05:54you know i gotta be honest dude i saw you last time you were here and i don't remember you

05:58props and by the way it's carrot tops birthday today so we gotta give props to carrot top is it

06:26been in vegas performing non-stop i loved him when i was a kid let me just go see what

06:32so i go in there not expecting it to be bad or good nothing right just no expectations really
06:38and then i go ahead and sit down settle in and i was cracking up the entire time he did

06:46where he steps and there's different sound effects so there's a
06:56you know and it was it was just like it was so funny i just couldn't even believe it so

07:04he's just a consummate performer i mean he's the real thing well in your latest special you got
07:08uh trombones you've got a cigar box juggling i even saw some things on the table that you didn't use

07:14your special which i'm assuming were probably cut out for time or whatever the case is but i don't
07:18remember you doing oh even ventriloquism you're you're like touching on everything terrible
07:23ventriloquism well it wasn't great ventriloquist dummy who has a ventriloquist dummy who has a ventriloquist
07:28i mean kind of ventriloquism inception was sort of what that was all about yeah but uh but yeah i
07:35mean it was fun because it was two things that i just haven't really done uh that i'm pretty good
07:42at was just sort of you know philosophical humor and then circus art stuff because i trained as a
07:47circus artist when i was in you know college or thereabouts i went out and and did a program and
07:54so it's really really fun but i like the cigar box juggling because no one's seen that you know
07:58the trombone i make somebody in the audience play it and the ventriloquism really hasn't you know
08:03been done like that before so it was a very uh yeah it was it was great i mean people
08:08love the special
08:09they love it you know no it's fantastic that's up on youtube like i was saying uh so you're doing
08:14the touring you're playing like i said mark ridley's this coming weekend you got any uh other gigs coming
08:19up you got any acting gigs anything we'll be seeing on the small screen or the big screen
08:22well i like small screen as if now people watch it on their phone i mean that is a small

08:29just yeah by the way yeah you touched on that as well in your special yeah i mean we're sort

08:35addicted to the screens and the scrolling and all that stuff and so it's just really bad it's just and
08:41everybody knows it's bad but it my buddy i was just talking to a while ago he um he got
08:48a light phone
08:49l-i-t-e and it doesn't have any social media on it so you're just supposed to only use
08:55it for phone
08:55calls and texting and that lasted like three weeks or less and i mean he just could not get by

09:03just instagram instagram instagram um but yeah the the main thing is i was on the phone with ryan
09:10reynolds a couple days ago and uh because we're buddies we are you know it's you have your ups and
09:17downs and then you land right where you're supposed to you're best friends with ryan reynolds and
09:22yeah i i have this christmas film that my buddy and i wrote and we're sort of at the stage
09:30where
09:31we're going out to actors and directors and all that kind of stuff and that's exciting for me because
09:38i kind of felt like i was done being in other people's projects because you just have so little
09:44control so i was starting to just be more about um you know writing the things that i'm going to
09:52be
09:52in and so you know there's that and then i have this like uh series called the loneliest megaplex
09:58which is about this guy getting a job in a movie theater during the pandemic and when all the malls
10:05are
10:05dying and he's the only one hired so it's a 30 screen megaplex and i'm kind of the only person
10:11there
10:11so you know the comedy ensues from just that weird sort of you know loneliness and isolation
10:18and so it's got thematically that stuff and then my uh uh techno thriller that i did a little while
10:25ago just got into south by southwest so we're uh i'm excited about that so i might go out there
10:31and
10:31help them promote that but it's uh it's really right now it's about stand-up i just i keep telling
10:38people that i kind of lost 10 years of stand-up time to kind of go full speed full-time
10:47in um
10:48hollywood and so i'm just you know i'm really enjoying the stand-up and wanting to like
10:54get to you know a place where i'm a great stand-up i think i'm a very very very very
11:01very
11:01very very good stand-up and i just i think i've got you know so i'm on the road almost
11:08every single
11:08weekend and i love it i mean the only thing is i really like my wife i'm a fan not
11:14everybody is a
11:14fan of their wife i'm a fan and so i i'm sort of uh yeah i'm i'm kind of it's
11:23frustrating that i have to
11:24be away so much um and if i was like a single dude i think i would love it like
11:30that guy i'd just be
11:31going getting laid that you know that random place in northern michigan um but i've been i'm not like
11:38that and a lot of my material is about my wife and it's you know it's not pejorative some of
11:43it's
11:43actually really embarrassing but she really wants me to but i've been tearing my pants off recently and
11:49that's she gave me a gift of tearaway pants and so i'm sort of closing by just ripping my pants

11:55and showing people what's underneath you know well i won't be there for the end um so listen you know
12:02i i have to ask because you just brought up ryan reynolds i mean you're talking to him are are

12:12going to say about that because they get marvel gets so weird about this stuff they're just like
12:18don't talk about it don't talk about it and i didn't want to be in the third one although what
12:22i will say is that he did a great job of making that not deadpool 3 he did a really
12:29good job saying
12:30this is a marvel movie it's a different deal it's wolverine it's you know it's it's a hundred
12:35different connections all that kind of stuff and i will also say that his idea for the the next
12:41deadpool film is like really good you know it's just it is really smart he told me the idea i
12:50kind
12:50of got hair on the back of my neck standing up because i was just like i didn't think you
12:57could
12:57do something that's even more different than deadpool and wolverine and i think he has i think
13:04you know it's in the chamber and i don't know when that's necessarily gonna happen
13:09because he's got a couple other projects going but i've really come to i mean i always liked him
13:17and thought i've always thought he's the funniest he really may be the funniest guy that i've worked
13:24with and i've worked some really funny people um but he is just so fast he's a good writer he's
13:31really
13:32he's as good of an improviser as anyone i've ever met and like you know i've been surprised by the
13:37improv of let's say uh jonah hill yeah right you know you don't necessarily expect him to be
13:43a brilliant improviser but he was and then you know i just i've worked with a ton of people jason
13:50bateman is so funny such a good improviser but ryan is really a powerhouse in terms of the comedy
13:57and um you know and specifically deadpool so i and he's he's come to be a real friend and he's
14:07kind
14:07of had our back and i've tried to have his because it's i mean the internet is just such a
14:13evil cruel
14:14place yeah it's just it doesn't make it so so despicable but i i think you know it's so i
14:23i really
14:24come to say you know he literally he and i just talked about this but i've come to say kind
14:30of
14:31um you know it would be a lot of fun to just joke around with him again just because i
14:35think he's so
14:36so funny and he made a really good point we were talking about different people we'd worked with
14:41and he made a really good point he said you know he was just he was mentioning somebody that both
14:46of
14:46us have worked with and he made a really good point he said you know what that guy's really come
14:50around he just you know and i helped him get his his movie that he's working on right now and
14:55you know he just we were we were just talking about how you know everything people go through
15:01these things and everybody when they're younger has a different approach to stuff or they've got
15:06their own hang-ups and all of us tend to just come all the way around full circle to sort
15:11of
15:12you know it's i mean i know it sounds stupid but like everybody grows up you know i think and
15:18the
15:18people that don't end up not really working with anybody and the people that do everyone around
15:23them tends to just say all right you know good to have you back in some way so i thought
15:28that was
15:28interesting that he said that but it shows a lot about his character you know and plus i think he
15:33was happy that you were rooting for his hockey team ah i bet you know i i mentioned that he
15:40i don't
15:41even think he believed me to tell you the truth i think i think the people that i was watching
15:45with
15:45i'm not i don't know that they believed me i think deep down they're like you're an american
15:49we know exactly where your heart is but uh but it was fun it's good great well i'll tell you

15:55you're going to be here this weekend here in uh in hockey town home of the uh gold medal winner
15:59dylan larkin from the detroit red wings uh at at mark ridley's comedy castle and you guys uh well
16:05how many shows you doing this weekend you got friday saturday and sunday i think it's friday no because
16:10i was going to do lansing on sunday but i had a personal conflict so my wife has been through
16:17the ringer i have i have jokes about it but she has i mean our summer was like a disaster
16:25just
16:25multiple deaths um you know of human beings and horses to the horses that she grew up with
16:32and then my mother passed away but i've got some really good kind of jokes
16:38about that and that stuff is really growing and so this is a totally new uh hour it's just you
16:44won't even see anything that i did on philosophy circus or dear jonah which was the first batch i
16:50put out on my channel and i think that um i think it's a lot of fun because this stuff
16:55is kind of a
16:55little deeper a little bit darker and i'm always surprised by how many people you know i'll say hey
17:01i think i think we're ready to do some dark stuff you guys open to that i'm always surprised at
17:06how
17:06many people yeah yeah woo because people kind of want to hear you know how deep you can get in
17:14you know your own life and and and what's tough around you so it's been really fun it's a different
17:19it's really it's a different hour it's silly too a lot of finger puppetry
17:26so don't don't think that it's all kind of heavy heavy stuff but uh yeah it's been it's been really
17:33interesting it really has it's been really interesting well i'll tell you what enjoy your
17:37trip here to uh michigan this weekend we'll send everybody your way of course i'll put the uh
