00:00elections were held in iraq back in november still no clear outcome in terms of who the prime minister
00:06is going to be and the united states is currently threatening measures sanctions we might call them
00:13if nouri al-maliki returns as prime minister now he's been prime minister before twice he's served
00:20uh in total about 10 years in office what is it though that washington has against him
00:28thank you very much first for having me here uh i i think mr maliki has a bad track record
00:36he governed iraq ruled that he had full executive authority and his policies were very problematic
00:43you know sectarian corruption started to emerge he used uh you know the military force the security
00:51forces in iraq to target his political enemies in the end when he left served of iraq was under the
01:01control of isis the country was on the verge of a civil war when the united states left to 2011
01:11the
01:11end of 2011 based on his insistence because he had some deal with iran that the u.s has to
01:18leave the
01:19country was in a much better situation in terms of security in terms of the political dialogue so on
01:26and so forth once the u.s left immediately a few days he started targeting his political enemies and
01:34things from there escalated until the failure of 2014 when musul was controlled by isis and the u.s
01:43administration the obama administration at the time said we cannot come and help iraq it's really similar
01:51to what trump is doing now we cannot come and help iraq militarily unless mr maliki leaves because we
01:59think he is part of the problem and that was an accurate assessment then and what mr trump has said
02:08is also an accurate assessment
