A sinkhole measuring about two metres in diameter and 1.5m deep formed along Jalan Bagan Lalang in Butterworth on Thursday (Feb 26), believed to have been caused by underground water flow.

Authorities have temporarily secured the area and urge motorists to exercise caution.

00:15Sungai Puyo State Assemblyman, Fi Sindhse, said the incident occurred at around 4.30pm.
00:22She said that the Inda Water Consortium is conducting further investigations
00:28to determine the exact cause and suspects a possible underground pipe leak
00:33as the site is along a sewer pipeline managed by IWK.
00:37Immediate action was taken by IWK's contractor, together with the Public Works Department,
00:43to temporarily fill the hole with crusher run.
00:46Safety barriers and blinking lights were also installed around the affected area as a precaution.
00:52Fi noted that a similar incident had been reported near the area several years ago.
00:57Road users are urged to exercise caution and reduce speed when passing through this route.
