The 30kph speed limit for school zones is in the process of being gazetted and will be enforced by the police and Road Transport Department (JPJ), says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

In a special interview with The Star on Wednesday (Feb 25), Loke said that the move, which has been adopted by the Cabinet committee on road safety, aligns with international standards to ensure the safety of students.

00:00and also yesterday there's a return reply that mentioned that there's going to be like 30 km per hour
00:05in on school zones so how is it going to be enforced is it going to be enforced but this
00:10is
00:11this has been discussed and adopted at the cabinet committee on road safety and this is again is
00:20an international standard we have piloted a project together with a united nation agency
00:28on certain selected schools on how to ensure a safe school zone so internationally is adopted and it
00:37has been accepted that the most safe speed for school zone is 30 kilometers per hour because any
00:45increase of speed in front of school will raise the risk for school children those who are crossing in
00:53school compound so this is something which we need to gazette and the process is ongoing
01:00once of course is gazetted then it has to be enforced so enforcement of course by the various
01:07uh enforcement agency police and jpj all together yeah together yeah so there'll be like speed cameras
01:14and speed bumps speed table well what we are trying to do right now is that for schools which are
01:20facing
01:20main roads or which have higher risk those are the schools that we will probably give more attention
01:25first because talking about the 30 kilometers per hour in front of school we also need to redesign some
01:34of the furniture in front of the school such as putting root bombs putting more root signs and certain the
01:41design of the
01:41schools uh in uh at the front yet
