The Road Transport Department has opened an investigation paper to take legal action against the operator of the bus involved in the fatal crash along the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway on Monday, which claimed the lives of 15 UPSI students.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said legal action could be taken against the bus company concerned for failing to operate according to the stipulated rules and regulations.

00:32He said there have been past cases where bus operators were brought to court because they
00:37hold responsibilities as the owner of the company.
00:42Lok said the bus company did not comply with several mandatory components under the Road
00:47Transport Department inspection and safety audit.
00:50These include the requirement to have a safety supervisor within the company and the installation
00:55of a GPS system to monitor the vehicle's speed.
00:59Earlier, the owner of the bus company was at the Gerik District Police Headquarters to give
