00:00Hello and welcome, I'm Geeta Mohan and I'm in Tehran amid fears of a possible U.S. attack on Iran
00:05and U.S. President Donald Trump's constant threat to topple the theocratic regime of Khomeini.
00:11U.S. and Iran concluded their third round of indirect talks in Geneva with Oman mediating.
00:17The meeting took place between U.S. Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner
00:23alongside Iran's Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araqchi.
00:26Meanwhile, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaydi plays the role of key mediator.
00:33The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Chief Rafael Grossi, also held talks with both the delegations.
00:42A day before the talks began, U.S. President Trump in his State of the Union address said
00:46that he will not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons, although prioritizing diplomacy over military attack.
00:53Earlier, Trump had warned that really bad things would happen if the talks were not conclusive.
00:59In an India Today global exclusive, I spoke to Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi,
01:04who categorically said Iran is ready for both peace and war.
01:09And he reiterated that Iran has the right to use nuclear energy for civilian and peaceful purposes
01:15and no military force can stop Iran's nuclear program.
01:20Listen in.
01:21Donald Trump has put Iran on notice yet again.
01:25What's your reaction? Is Iran prepared?
01:29Well, first of all, thank you for having me.
01:34On your question, of course, we are prepared.
01:38We are fully prepared for both options.
01:47War, God forbid, and peace.
01:52As you know, I'm going to Geneva this afternoon in order to have the third round of our talks with
02:02the U.S. team.
02:05And we have made some progress last time.
02:09We were able to find some sort of understandings.
02:13And I think, based on those understanding, we can build something in the form of an agreement, a deal.
02:26I think a fair, balanced, and equitable deal is achievable.
02:32And we can do it.
02:36Of course, our armed forces are prepared to do their job.
02:40And we know how to defend ourselves.
02:42And this is what we did last time.
02:44And we have learned lots of lessons from the last war.
02:47So we are even more prepared.
02:49And that means, by the way, that the aim is to prevent a war.
02:55When you are prepared for a war, you can prevent it.
02:59Otherwise, you are inviting it to your home.
03:02So we are fully prepared.
03:04Not because we want war, because we want to prevent the war.
03:07I'm a man of diplomacy.
03:09I have to talk about my own job.
03:10And I think the way we are going to is the best possible way to resolve this problem.
03:20There is no military option for Iran's peaceful nuclear program.
03:23If there is any concern, if there is any questions, if there is any ambiguity, we are ready to address.
03:31We are ready to answer questions.
03:33We are ready to remove concerns.
03:35But we are not ready to give up our rights for peaceful use of nuclear technology.
03:40This is what we are, what we demand.
03:43So I believe that tomorrow in Geneva, there is every possibility to come to an agreed solution which is fair
03:56and balanced.
03:56I know you have a huge responsibility on your shoulders.
03:59It's that of peace of the entire region and the world today.
04:02But if talks fail in Geneva, there are military options and the supreme leader is also one of the targets.
04:09That's absolutely clear in the messaging from Washington.
04:15Well, military options, yes.
04:18They have built a huge military presence around us.
04:31If the idea is to threaten us, so we, you know, capitulate, that is not going to happen.
04:41It is for sure.
04:44We have proved it last time in the war when Israel attacked us.
04:50Perhaps you remember in the third days, the third day of war, it was, there was a tweet, unconditional surrender.
04:58But it didn't happen.
04:59And after 12 days, they asked for unconditional ceasefire.
05:04And we accepted because it was unconditional.
05:09If you repeat a failed experience, you won't get any better result.
05:16Especially since we are more prepared than previous time, as I said before.
05:23So, there would be no victory for anybody.
05:28It would be a devastating war.
05:33And since the Americans' bases are scattered in different places in the region,
05:40then, unfortunately, perhaps the whole region would be engaged and would be involved.
05:45So, it is a very, a terrible scenario.
05:48I don't even want to talk about that.
05:50I'd like to be a fly on the wall, but I'm not that.
05:53So, might as well tell us, what is fair and equitable to you?
05:56How do you see fair and equitable?
05:59What should Iran be allowed and what should America get?
06:03Well, what we want is only our right, to practice our right.
06:07We are a committed member of NPT, Non-Proliferation Treaty, and we have accepted not to have nuclear weapons,
06:15but at the same time, we have full rights to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
06:22And we want to practice that right.
06:26If there is any question, as I said, if there is any concern, we are ready to address.
06:32So, we can build confidence on our nuclear program, and in return, we expect sanctions being terminated.
06:41So, this is a fair deal, that we build confidence, we make sure that our program is peaceful and would
06:47remain peaceful forever.
06:49At the same time, sanctions should be lifted, and our right for peaceful use of nuclear technology be respected.
06:58Iranian Foreign Minister's exclusive interview to the India Today group is now resonating far beyond our studios.
07:04With global media outlets tracking and quoting the interview, from world capitals to conflict zones, the spotlight is on India
07:13Today, free, fair and fearless.
07:16Another India Today exclusive, making waves across the globe.
07:20Is Iran prepared?
07:21We are fully prepared for both options.
07:26We are a committed member of NPT, Non-Proliferation Treaty.
07:30In event of a war, how do you see and what kind of a role do you see Russia and
07:35China play?
07:35In the case of war, we don't need anybody to defend us.
07:39There is only one entity in this region who wants war, and that is Israel.
07:43There is a lot of information about the Supreme Leader, his health, his whereabouts.
07:47The Supreme Leader appears in TV and public gatherings every often.
07:52India Today makes global headlines again.
07:55The latest scoop, an exclusive interview with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Adachi by Foreign Affairs Editor Gita Mohan.
08:03The interview with Tehran's point man for talks with the Donald Trump administration amidst the war clouds looming over West
08:10Asia was closely tracked by world capitals.
08:27Foreign Minister Arachi's views on peace efforts were widely quoted by international media.
08:37There would be no victory for anybody.
08:42It would be a devastating war.
08:46And since the Americans' bases are scattered to different places in the region, then unfortunately perhaps the whole region would
08:56be engaged and would be involved.
08:59Raji clarified that there has been no nuclear testing by Iran.
09:04He called President Trump a victim of fake news, but expressed confidence that peace is possible if the US is
09:11willing.
09:13We are a committed member of NPT, non-proliferation treaty, and we have accepted not to have nuclear weapons, but
09:21at the same time we have full rights to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
09:28And we want to practice that right.
09:30We have made some progress last time. We were able to find some sort of understandings. And I think based
09:39on those understandings, we can build something in the form of an agreement, a deal.
09:50Many global reports highlighted the Iranian Foreign Minister's observations on the ongoing Geneva summit between the US and Iran.
10:02I think a fair, balanced and equitable deal is achievable, and we can do it.
10:10India Today also highlighted the potential human cost if a war were to break out in the region.
10:16Multiple media agencies reported Tehran's stand on Gaza, which is still counting losses after three years of relentless strikes by
10:25Israel.
10:26The interview with the Iranian Foreign Minister spotlights India Today's commitment to free and fair reporting at a time when
10:34the world is deeply divided and fractured.
10:37With Geeta Mohan reporting from Tehran, Iran Bureau Report, India Today.
10:42They are fighting for the right things, for the right cause.
10:45Tonight, a reality check from Tehran. Not missiles, not sirens, not sanctions. Books, coffee, conversation.
10:53In an India Today ground report, Vice Chairperson Kalipuri and I step beyond the Western headline narrative to show a
11:01different side of Iran.
11:03Take a look.
11:04Take a look.
11:20Take a look.
11:22not silence not sanctions this is Tehran beyond the Western headline from the
11:31outside Iran is framed through conflict and confrontation but step inside a mall
11:38in Tehran and the narrative shifts we're looking at a mall that not just
11:45enriches it is enriching because of the books that they have they're portraying
11:50and showcasing Iranian books Persian books Persian culture the the books over
11:57here are not just confined to religious texts there is poetry there's Khyam
12:04there is absolutely every big port and their work that you can see over here
12:11this is showcasing Iranian architecture look at the beautiful space they have
12:20built just to portray and project what Iran is and what Iranian or Persian
12:28architecture looks like absolutely spectacular so you go into this nook
12:34and and the moment you walk through you come out into a space where there's dome
12:42there is beautiful artwork this calligraphy India to the group's vice chairperson
12:50Kalipuri and Gita Mohan give you a glimpse of the reality of Iran beyond the picture
12:56that the Western media has painted for the world there is inflation undoubtedly so
13:01there's a lot and there are problems but not the way the West projects because we
13:07see a lot of reports Kali from the West and we have to be so careful in our
13:12reporting to ensure that we do not fall prey to certain kind of narrative this
13:18breaks that for you for us for our viewers this could be anywhere in Europe
13:23couldn't it the way the coffee shop is done the kind of people who are sitting
13:26around the books at the back like the atmosphere the lights and like what the
13:32image you have of Tehran and then comes a second big myth the narrative of
13:41constant fear of moral policing on every street corner we we are all for women's
13:47rights we talk about it all the time but roaming around in the streets of
13:52Tehran do you feel the moral police as is reported by the Western media like we
13:59know that a lot of women do wear a hijab or headscarves and we had to for the
14:03interview but you also see a lot of women who don't it seems as if it's a
14:08choice I mean today we have a headscarf on because it's a bit cold and it
14:14seems like a reasonable choice to have the headscarf then but you know there's
14:20been no sort of pressure on us to do either except at the ministry I mean I
14:25guess that's their convention which is fine American staple in Tehran this is
14:31the reality of Iran myths over a sanctioned backward world busted by the
14:36India today group as we traveled through the streets of Tehran Bureau report
