00:00Ed Norris, the word on the street is Lamar has been engaged, Jeremy.
00:05Your thoughts on that?
00:05How important is Lamar being engaged with off-season things with the Ravens?
00:10Not engaged to some female, engaged.
00:12Yeah, no, but look, I love that.
00:14I love the fact that your quarterback was involved with the coach search
00:17and everything else going on, that he and Declan have talked.
00:21I think too many people took what Declan said to heart.
00:26He's just basically saying, hey, if you want to be a championship team,
00:29then show up in these days.
00:31I don't think he called out Lamar if Lamar took it that way.
00:34If you're coming in to learn a new offense, especially now,
00:37this is the time I would want to be in early to kind of get a grip on this thing
00:40so we're not figuring it out by week five.
00:43You know what I mean?
00:44I think this is one of the more important years to come in
00:46and learn a totally new offense because even with Todd Monken coming in,
00:50they still had a lot of the same similarities in the running game.
00:53I'm sure they'll keep some of those aspects,
00:54but you've got a new running game coordinator coming here from Atlanta
00:57that really he has his own style, and they've been very successful in Atlanta.
01:02So I think with that being said, I love the fact that he's engaged.
01:06I hope he shows up early.
01:07This is what Jeff Zrebeck had to say on the Ravens Collective Podcast.
01:11But I just heard this from a Ravens perspective,
01:13that Lamar Jackson's been great this offseason.
01:15Steve Bishotti talked to Lamar Jackson about a pending coaching change.
01:19They've made it a priority to include him in everything they're doing.
01:24The coachings, the new coaches, quarterback coach, Doyle, Jesse, obviously,
01:29it's been a priority for them to work on the relationship.
01:33They've talked a good number of times from everyone in the organization
01:37to be on the same page with Lamar, make sure they know what he's thinking, feeling,
01:42make sure he's engaged in everything and happy with everything.
01:45And I've gotten nothing but positive reports about his participation level.
01:51Music to my ears, Ed North.
01:53Music to my ears.
01:55Yeah, me too.
01:57It's like, you know, happy wife, happy life.
02:00If Lamar's unhappy, the team's not going to be good.
02:03No, period.
02:04If they're including him in all these decisions, the installation of a new offense,
02:08I'm happy.
02:09I'm very happy to hear this.
02:10I've heard it from different outlets.
02:11But I would like to see him show up early.
02:13Didn't Bashadi kind of say it's right?
02:15And I love what he said.
02:16Like, we're going to take advice, information, whatever.
02:20But I'm in charge.
02:21But I make the final decision.
02:23Yes, you did say that.
02:24And I love that.
02:25It's like, hey, look, I want all of your input.
02:27But when push comes to shove, this is my team.
02:30And I'm going to do what I think is best for us.
02:33And yeah, let the football people run the football stuff.
02:35But when it comes down to financials, I think that's where you have to step in
02:38and figure things out.
02:39And I'm hoping that they get this thing done with Lamar to restructure,
02:42because that's really going to tell you the tale and what else they can do.
02:45Now, Joe, Joe's on top of all these things.
02:48Joe, you said you saw a video of Lamar Jackson actually working out down in Florida.
02:54Yeah, he's with Tutu Atwell.
02:55He's another South Florida person.
02:57So there was a rumor that he was up in Baltimore.
02:59I guess that's not true because they had pictures of him getting on a plane.
03:03So that's why some people are like, oh, maybe he's getting an extension done.
03:06Don't think that's the case right now.
03:09But they only have about two and a half weeks to get this extension done.
03:14Yeah.
03:14And like Steve Bishotti said, there are ways they can manipulate his cap number this year
03:18to get it down from 74 and a half.
03:21Yeah, but his extension is the best way.
03:22Yes, but it'd be kicking the can.
03:24But there is a way that they can do it, and it would keep it to what it is
03:29that it was the last couple of years.
03:30So we hope that gets done.
03:33Ed Norris, if you were a betting man, gets done, doesn't get done.
03:37Doesn't get done.
03:38I just think that I'm not saying he's unhappy or I just think this whole, you know,
03:44mom is the agent has made things very difficult in negotiations.
03:48And I know that from the Ravens side, talking to people there, the last go around.
03:54So I'm not saying he won't get done.
03:55I'm sure he gets an extension, but I'm not optimistic it'll happen now.
03:59So, Jeremy, betting man, you are.
04:01Gets done, doesn't get done.
04:03I feel like, oh, man.
04:05I'm going to say it gets done because if you're true in what you're saying,
04:10I'm sure the money can't be that far off, right?
04:12Like, I don't think anybody's nickel and dime anyone.
04:14They know what your worth is.
04:15Get the contract done and be able to bring in other players.
04:19And, again, they can restructure.
04:21There are certain things that they can do to try to help themselves out.
04:23But as you pointed out, Rob, the best thing that they can do is get this contract extension done with
04:28him
04:28and free up some money so you can go out and figure out where you have to allocate that money.
04:32Because I know we're going to talk about it later, but the Tyler Lindebaum stuff is interesting, too.
04:36So they got a lot of things to figure out.
04:39I think it gets done.
04:41I just think Lamar and his mom and his camp, they do things at their time.
04:47They're not in a hurry to do anything.
04:49You know, they're kind of 11th hour people.
04:51I think it does get done.
04:53And I think Lamar Jackson wants to win.
04:54I think he realizes the only way, well, not the only way, the best way that they can win is
05:00for him to rework his contract.
05:01He'll still get his money, get more money up front, and then they can free up some cap room and
05:06sign some of these guys.
05:06I actually think it does get done.
05:08I have more faith in this getting done than Lamar signing the first contract, to be honest with you.
05:14I was probably more up in the air about that.
05:17Yeah, and, again, like, we've talked about this.
05:20The ball's kind of in Lamar's court because he holds all the cards.
05:23Yeah.
05:24You know, like, you can't force him to do anything.
05:26You can't franchise him.
05:27The only thing you could do is trade him.
05:29But, oh, he's got that no trade, too.
05:31They're not going to trade him either.
05:32Again, that's what I'm saying.
05:33You've got – he holds all the cards.
05:35So, it's a really weird situation to be in.
05:39It's a good situation to be in if you're him.
05:41Yeah.
05:41Yeah, that's for sure.
05:42Not if you're the Ravens.
05:44And, again, you'd like to hope that he wants to be here.
05:46You heard all the rumors of – I mean, Miami's cleaning the house.
05:48Why would you even want to go there now?
05:50I don't believe that, man.
05:51I mean, listen, this is the thing.
05:53You know, we talk about how bad of a situation it was for his mom to be an agent.
05:59She got him a no trade clause, and you can't franchise me.
06:03Sounds pretty good to me.
06:04Yeah.
06:06That sounds pretty good to me.
06:08I know a lot of players out there would love to have not only a no trade clause,
06:12but you can't franchise me.
06:14That's in my contract?
06:15How you do that?
06:16Because I'm Lamar Jackson.
06:18That's how it was done.
06:19Well, certain players don't need – but my point is certain players don't need top-notch agents.
06:24You are Lamar Jackson.
06:26You know your worth.
06:28I'd rather keep my business in the family.
06:31Well, I take it outside what I know my worth.
06:32I don't need him to negotiate for me.
06:34I know what I can get based on what I do on the field.
06:37Yep.
06:38I mean, again, like, when you're in that position, and he has to – I think he knows this as
06:43well.
06:44I mean, I'm not saying anything that's out of the ordinary.
06:46The best chance for you to win this year is to restructure as well.
06:50So, like, depending on what's the most important thing to you, bringing in players, you're going to lose some guys.
06:56Maybe they go to him and say, hey, we got this trade on the table for A.J. Brown, but
06:59we need you to restructure.
07:00You're going to restructure?
07:01We got this opportunity to go get this player, whether it's a lineman or another wide receiver.
07:07You're going to restructure to help us out?
07:08And the restructuring is not taking less money.
07:10He's getting a ton of money.
07:11Oh, you're going to get it, yeah.
07:13Yeah, and I mean, there's so many people in NFL that have done this at his level.
07:18I mean, you're talking about, like, you know, Mahomes has done it.
07:21Tom Brady's obviously done it.
07:22I mean, that's what quarterbacks have done to win.
07:25So, I mean, it's kind of a no-brainer.
