01:44and we've got great early season NHL action for you here tonight.
01:49The Washington Capitals fans were a rabid crew
01:51when they made the finals against the Red Wings not too many years ago.
01:57The Capitals are a team that relies on its goaltending
02:00to get it done first.
02:02They'll play that low-scoring 1-0, 2-1 game
02:05with the goaltending they've got.
02:07Bob, this team needs to be strong in goal
02:09because they are undisciplined.
02:10I mean, if they don't have strong goaltending,
02:13they're in trouble every game.
02:14And you cannot ask your goalie to be your top penalty killer
02:18on a regular basis if you want to win.
02:21And here come the Blue Jackets.
02:24And fired!
02:25Washington picks it back up.
02:27Castles has it at center ice.
02:31Fired!
02:32This is a stick save, and a pretty good one off that wrist shot, Bob.
02:35We know it's tough to pick it up when it comes off the stick.
02:38You don't telegraph it at all on most wrist shots.
02:42Oh, and a chance for Columbus now.

02:45Way down on the gates, and the visiting team up on top, 1-0.

10:46They came out with the early need in the first period and are riding with confidence in total control.
10:51What are the keys to their success, Harry?
10:54They're up big and I'd say that can simply be attributed to the fact they've had more chances.
10:59The more shots you put on goal, the more likely you are to have some of them go in.
11:03It's as simple as that.
11:10It's period number two and they're getting ready to drop the puck.
11:16And Washington has it at center.
11:19And here come the Blue Jackets.
11:20It's shot.
11:21That was a brilliant save.
11:23I think the puck changed directions.
11:25Somehow it hit something.
11:27Maybe it was deflected, but he still got it with a stick.
11:30Foote with a great plus minus, a plus three.

13:20Good anticipation allowed him to get the blocker in the way and keep the puck out of the net.
13:24That's textbook goaltending there.
13:26Just the way you would want to do it if you were teaching someone to play goal.
13:29The Jackets have possession of the loose puck in the defending zone.

13:34That's number two for him tonight.
13:36He's got the shooting touch, folks.
13:38One more and it's the hat trick.
13:40Puck control.
13:41Terrific skating.
13:42It all came together here, Bob.
13:44And bang.
13:45Next thing you know, it's in the net.
13:46No assist on that play.
13:48He just took it in front and dialed in the weak spot.
13:51The goalie saw it coming, but he just couldn't get to it.
14:00They're ready for the faceoff.
14:06The Jackets have really come out here tonight with an attitude to win.
14:10They've got a four-goal lead now with that last goal.
14:13It's going to be very hard, probably nearly impossible.
14:16And he scores!
14:17And while this crowd is just stunned here tonight, they're watching their team get destroyed.
14:23Now a five-goal deficit.
14:25This backhand is a thing of beauty.
14:28Take a look at it.
14:29He was going up top all the way.
14:31Great effort to get that on the right portion of the stick to take that shot.
14:34And I think he actually planned to go there.
14:36Boy, if he did, he's got a great eye, hasn't he?
14:51We'll get back to the action now as the official gets set to drop the puck.

15:09Great reaction to that shot, Bob.
15:11The goalie did a nice job deflecting it with his stick.
15:14Now you know why those goal sticks are so important.
15:16And it's another goal.
15:18And they're up by a surprising six goals here in enemy territory.
15:23Don't be surprised if the fans start moving for the exits.
15:26You could make the argument that the goalie was screened by his own defenders.
15:30But I don't know in this case, Bob.
15:32Yeah, Harry, it seems like he just simply lost track of where the puck was.
15:35Either that or he lost his train of concentration.
15:53And the puck is just about to drop.
16:00And the faceoff is run by Washington.
16:02Passes it to the right wing.
16:06Now Columbus has got it.
16:08And the delay penalty is called.

16:19Harry, he was clearly trying to get away with some extracurricular activity there.

16:25And he's going to serve some time in the box to think about it.

18:33The Blue Jackets gain possession of the puck, and they've come into town tonight and are just blowing them out.

19:48Let's take a look at that cross-checking call and see exactly what happened.

19:53You can clearly see from the replay that he was cross-checked.
19:56Well, from here, it's an absolute penalty.
20:08This faceoff is to the left of the goalie.
20:14The Capitals win the faceoff on the power play.
20:18Sometimes you get a chance to get your stick on the puck right before someone shoots.
20:23And you don't quite get there.
20:24He scores.
20:25This time, he was able to break it up.

20:29And on the power play, the Capitals bring it in.

21:57He reached out to make the catch.
21:59But it just didn't happen.

22:03You can see it in his eyes just before they became huge with the realization he didn't actually make the

22:14The Capitals have pulled the game to within three goals.
22:18Big margin to overcome.
22:20Let's see if they can energize here and cut that lead to two.

22:56But they have to capitalize on this better and work harder at generating some offense.
