00:01A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Sabah in the early hours of Monday.

00:07The 6.8 magnitude quake hit at 12.57am, with its epicentre located approximately 49 kilometres

00:15west of Kudat, at a depth of 678 kilometres below the surface.

00:21According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the deep depth of the quake is

00:26a key factor, and importantly, authorities say it posed no tsunami threat.

00:33Tremors were widely felt, not just across Sabah, but also in parts of Sarawak and peninsular

00:39Malaysia, rattling residents in the middle of the night.

00:44Patrols are currently underway across all stations as authorities work to ensure the situation

00:51remains stable.
