José María Giménez pourrait vivre ses derniers mois à l’Atlético de Madrid. Arrivé en 2013 en provenance de Danubio FC, le défenseur central uruguayen s’est progressivement imposé sous Diego Simeone, jusqu’à devenir l’un des visages forts du vestiaire.  Au fil des saisons, Giménez participe aux grandes campagnes du club, dont la finale de Ligue des champions 2016. Il remporte aussi la Ligue Europa 2018 et la Supercoupe d’Europe, et compte deux titres de champion d’Espagne avec l’Atlético, en 2014 et 2021.
