00:00This is all about the head of the lake win for these five crews.
00:04So the full field for play number two is the crew from Loretta College,
00:08Matilda Grant, Matilda Kavanagh, Olive Lanyon, Jeff Carlson and Eliza Dodd,
00:12coached by Jordan Roberts.
00:14I'm playing three ballerat runners for Lily Geddes, Annabella Miller, Clara Watson,
00:19Briley Walker, Luchette Asmore, coached by Jamie McDonald.
00:23I'm playing four ballerat fans for Charlie Suey, Grace Donovan,
00:26Estelle Freeman, Chloe Bullen and Addison Tucker, coached by John Novak.
00:31I'm playing five, Damascus, probably Evie Lewis, Catherine Code,
00:34Olivia Raniseth, Ivy Story and Ruby Thorpe, coached by Brad Uselt.
00:38I'm playing six ballerat high, Elizabeth Keith, Paton Smith, Maya Jenkins,
00:42Gisabelle Collette and Gemma Reid, coached by Warren Payne.
00:46I'd like to see Jamie McDonald there, coaching for ballerat grammar school,
00:50of course, on the Australian junior court skull last year as well
00:54to the World Championship Regatta.
00:58So looking at Ballerat Grammar School
01:02and has one of the big chances, certainly, in this Head of the Lake race.
01:06It was Loretto College who won it pretty comfortably last year
01:09with a very, very strong crew.
01:11Continued their winning run in this Head of the Lake event.
01:15But, of course, the four years before that,
01:16the title had been when the semi-permation of Ballerat,
01:20Clarendon College, who had some very, very strong crews over those years
01:24who went on to win a number of states and national titles.
01:27But it is certainly Loretto and likely Ballerat Grammar School,
01:32you would think, at this stage, the two crews
01:34to meet the top two chances in this particular event.
01:39The bright yellow colours there on Loretto College
01:41across on the southern side of Lake Wendaree.
01:43Ballerat Grammar School certainly matching with fairly well
01:46down lane three as well.
01:49The blue colours there of Ballerat High School.
01:53The crew across on this side of the course is back in lane number six.
01:57Damascus next to them in a darker green boat
01:59as both of their school crews row in.
02:01And the red colours there in the centre of the course,
02:04the combination from Ballerat, Clarendon College.
02:07So they are the five boats here racing
02:09for the Head of the Lake title in 2026.
02:13And racing for the Patterson Shield,
02:16the winner of the Girls' Head of the Lake.
02:19And they're heading up now towards the halfway point
02:22of this race as well.
02:24These five combinations are making their way
02:27down Lake Wendaree.
02:29So a couple of these crews did race last weekend
02:31at the Ngambi Rowing Club Regatta at Ngambi Lake.
02:35Loretto is going to be second in that race
02:37behind the Wesley College combination from Melbourne.
02:43Ballerat, Clarendon fourth in the same race.
02:45And Ballerat High School, in fact, was sixth in that race.
02:47So three of the five crews in that event.
02:50But not Ballerat, Brummerschool,
02:52who we expect to be right up there in contention too
02:55as they sit at the moment alongside both Loretto
02:58and also the Ballerat, Clarendon combination.
03:01They have now come through the halfway point
03:05of this 2,000 metre race.
03:07And certainly it is on in earnest there
03:10on the far side of the course,
03:11Loretto College and Ballerat Grammar School
03:14who look to be the top two crews there.
03:16Ballerat, Clarendon would be a clear third
03:19from Damascus College.
03:21And then the crew from Ballerat High School
03:23in lane number two,
03:25closest to the finish tower side of the course.
03:45And Loretto Ballerat and Ballerat Grammar School
03:47have had some great races so far this season.
03:50They had a very close race at the Sacred Heart Regatta
03:52on the Bowen River in Geelong.
03:55Back to earlier in the season,
03:56just three seconds between them on that occasion.
03:59They did in fact race two at an underage
04:01the other 21 event last weekend
04:03at the Ngambia Regatta.
04:05On that occasion, it was Loretto fairly comfortably,
04:08almost 13 seconds ahead of Ballerat Grammar School.
04:11So the crew in yellow certainly is the form crew
04:14at this stage and receding in lane number two
04:17as they make their way down the lake window
04:19and they do have a fairly handy lead now
04:22in the third 500 of this race.
04:24The crew there from Loretto College
04:26in lane number two.
04:28Then Ballerat Grammar School
04:29will be second ahead of Ballerat.
04:32Clarendon there in the red in the centre of the course.
04:36Damascus College next in lane five
04:37and Ballerat High School in lane six.
04:39At this stage in fact,
04:40they are in lane number order
04:41right across the course
04:43from lane two to lane six.
04:44So very good news there certainly
04:46for the Loretto College combination.
04:49Matilda Grant, Matilda Cabana,
04:50Olive Lanyon, Jeff Charleston
04:52and Eliza Dodd.
04:54And coach Jordan Roberts
04:55who's got a fairly substantial lead here
04:57of at least two links it would be
05:00and maybe in fact stretching out
05:02towards three links now
05:03on Ballerat Grammar School
05:05in second position there.
05:07Similar to back to Ballerat.
05:09Clarendon who'd be third
05:10and then again across to Damascus
05:12followed by Ballerat High School.
05:14But it is the Loretto College group
05:16who do continue to lead here.
05:18They had a very strong start
05:19to the regatta Loretto.
05:20Ballerat four wins
05:21in the year nine races earlier today.
05:24Four wins in year 10 as well.
05:27They are yet to score a win here
05:29in the open races
05:30but they might be saving it
05:31here for the race that counts.
05:33Leading still by a couple of weeks
05:35over the Ballerat Grammar School
05:36combination with Ballerat Grammar.
05:38The golden still so far
05:40here in these open races
05:42and great to see the Armada
05:44who are both waiting here
05:45underneath the spectator area
05:47that's here on these Division 1 crews
05:50as they come through
05:51in the race here
05:52for the Patterson Shield
05:54for the winner
05:55of the girls' head on the lake.
05:57And it was Loretto College
05:58who won this race last year
06:01for the first time since 2020.
06:02Before that it was in 2017.
06:05They've only the one that
06:06events three times over the course
06:08of their 20 plus years
06:10involved in Ballerat Rome
06:11but they look well set here
06:12to make it four times now.
06:14The crew from Loretto College
06:16racing towards their school
06:18at the end of the finish line here
06:20at Lake Wendaree.
06:21They're still clear
06:22by two lengths.
06:23The crew from Loretto College
06:24Ballerat.
06:25Ballerat Grammar School
06:26holding on to second place.
06:28Ballerat found in third
06:29but it's three six strokes
06:30with still four or five strokes
06:33to go.
06:33This will be a substantial win
06:35to the crew from Loretto College
06:37from Ballerat
06:38in the girls' head on the lake
06:39for 20-26.
06:41Loretto first
06:41by two and a half lengths
06:43they've won the title here today.
06:45Loretto College
06:46behind Ballerat Grammar School
06:48as soon as two and a half lengths
06:49back to Ballerat.
06:50Ballerat will finish in third.
06:53Four four days
06:54of the last green boat
06:54of Damascus College
06:56and fifth then
06:57it'll be the white blue colors
06:59of Ballerat High School
07:01but that was a dominant performance
07:03by Matilda Grant
07:04Matilda Kavanagh
07:06Paul of Lanyon
07:07Jeff Charleston
07:08and Eliza Dodd
07:10first by Jordan Roberts.
07:11Well done there
07:12to the crew from Loretto College
07:14they've gone back to back
07:15for the first time
07:16in their rowing history
07:18to claim again
07:20the Patterson Shield
07:21for the girls' head of the lake
07:23and they'll win it start
07:24by about four and a half lengths
07:26so a dominant finish indeed
07:28the 2,000 metres here
07:30on Lake Wendaree.
07:31He's under that high across
07:32they're now
07:33in fifth place as well
07:36the Wolf 5-2
07:39home at this stage
07:40and he's finished
07:41in rain order
07:42down the pace
07:43in this race now
07:44two, three, four, five and six
07:46will be the placing
07:47in race number 28
07:49the Open Division 1
07:51schoolgirls top four
07:52and it is Loretto College
07:55for the second year in a row
07:57who have claimed the win
07:59and now turn around
08:01right in front of our school
08:02to head back
08:04to the boating area
08:05as well
08:05so a great win there
08:07to Loretto College
08:08and that does make it
08:10ten wins on the day
08:11which I'm pretty sure
08:12matches their results
08:13from last year as well
08:15ten wins overall
08:17from Loretto
08:18which is an amazing performance
08:21when you consider
08:22they've only contested
08:23I think they're 15
08:24of the 28 races
08:26so far
08:27so Loretto the winners
08:29in the second last race
08:31one big one
08:32still to go
08:33they're not quite ready yet
08:35at the 2,000 metre start
08:37we are
08:37pretty much on start time
08:39that's the waiting requirement
