00:00President Marcus Jr. is urging government agencies to step up to the plate and crack
00:04down on money laundering and other financial crimes. Officials said all departments and
00:09local units must pull their weight to keep the country on the straight and narrow
00:13and stay above board with international standards. This report.
00:19President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr. has directed government agencies to align with the
00:24administration's efforts against money laundering, terrorism financing, and the
00:29proliferation financing. Under memorandum circular number 113 signed by Ralph Rector
00:34this February 12, the President issued a directive to all government agencies, including
00:40government owned and controlled corporations and local government units to actively support
00:45the Anti-Money Laundering Council or AMLC in crafting an updated national strategy against
00:51money laundering. The AMLC has been tasked to lead the formulation of the National Anti-Money
00:56Laundering and Counter-Terrorism or Proliferation Financing Strategy or NAACS for 2026
01:02to 2030. National and local government units are also required to ensure that their institutional
01:08action plans for the NAACS 2026 to 2030 are aligned with their respective capacities and available
01:14resources. The NAACS is crucial for the fourth mutual evaluation of the Asia or Pacific Group
01:20on money laundering in 2027, where the Philippines compliance with the 40 recommendations of the
01:26Financial Action Task Force or FATF will be assessed. It can be recalled that the Philippines has been
01:32removed from the FATF gray list, a development seen as vital in attracting more investors to the
01:38country and reducing the cost of international transactions, including OFW remittances. Malacan Young
01:45assure the public that the administration is continuing to implement measures to prevent the
01:49country from being placed back on the gray list.
Malacan Young also said it is open to proposals to enact stronger
02:12laws that would further strengthen the country's fight against money laundering, but maintain that
02:17such matters are already under the purview of lawmakers. The Philippines was officially removed
02:23from the FATF gray list in May 2025 after having been included in July 2021. This is Sharm
02:31Despina from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
