00:00There is a crisis at the border. This time, it's the northern border. With so much attention on
00:05the border with Mexico and interior enforcement over the past year, a staffing crisis up north
00:10has gone largely unnoticed. A government report found that Customs and Border Patrol effectiveness
00:15has taken a hit after failing to meet staffing goals and lacking proper equipment. The report
00:21from the Government Accountability Office found, for example, that agents in New York don't have
00:26reliable radar to detect migrant vessels crossing Lake Ontario. Regarding the staff numbers,
00:31the report cites the obvious. To anyone who has kept an eye on immigration lately,
00:37Border Patrol deployment has been mainly concentrated on the southern border and the interior of the
00:41country to handle President Trump's immigration crackdown. A former agent told the Post that
00:46only 20 percent of Border Patrol staff is assigned to the 4,000 miles of northern border and waterways.
00:52Border Patrol pushed back on this report, saying that it has more staff now than it has in the
00:57past four years and hiring is ongoing, adding, quote, USBP deploys its resources based on operational
01:04needs. Those needs are determined by activity levels and intelligence analysis. Americans can
01:09feel secure that the Border Patrol is working diligently to secure all our borders.
