Shedeur Sanders is once again at the center of the NFL conversation after Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith publicly criticized how the league treated him during the draft process. Calling him the most marketable name in the class, the Cowboys legend said the message sent by the NFL was disappointing and unfair. Smith emphasized Shedeur’s training, football IQ, calm leadership and preparation under both his father and former NFL quarterback Jeff Blake, arguing there was “no way” he should have slipped the way he did. The comments reignite the debate about talent, perception and how prospects are evaluated at the highest level.

00:00I was completely disappointed in terms of how the NFL treated him.
00:05I'm going to say the NFL.
00:06He was the biggest name coming out of the draft.
00:10There was no other kid in the draft that was more marketable than that young man.
00:14Okay.
00:15In doing that, I think it sent the Rome message.
00:20Because there's no way he should have failed to the fifth round.
00:24No way.
00:25No way.
00:26I know that this kid was trained by an NFL quarterback himself.
00:30And meaning Jeff Blake.
00:32I know that this kid understands defense because his dad had to help him understand what was happening and understanding
00:38body languages and everything else.
00:40So he has a level of calmness and humility within him.
00:43He just plays with a chip on his shoulder.
00:44Some people would have got a pat on their back.
00:46Mayfield was one of those would have got a pat on his back.
00:48Some people get a pat on their back and some people don't.
00:50Because it's the language that people want to use when they don't understand the individual of color.
