00:01welcome back to the channel everybody welcome back to the vlog want to thank
00:05you so much for hitting that play button today if you're stopping it for the very
00:08first time my name is Chuck I am an LTL driver as specifically and a line haul
00:13driver for a company called Estes Express right over there's one of our new
00:17Freightliner Cascadia's we got a couple of Volvos here we got a sleeper next
00:21here now I have people all the time there's another one back there ask yeah
00:25Chuck we see these right here what are those some of those are team trucks and
00:31some of them are solo trucks there's some guys out here that drive those guy
00:36named Josh who is a good friend and we talk quite often out of the Irving
00:41terminal he actually drives one of these and he's just a solo driver still stay
00:45in hotels just like we do the whole nine yards it's just they've got a little bit
00:50more room for their stuff but we are headed to to the terminal my 10-hour
00:54break is up it's 409 as you can see right here if you remember the last video
00:58I think they laid me down early they they kind of cut me there was just
01:03one enough nothing for me to get to with the three little over three hours I had
01:07on my clock so when that happens you know I've been starting at like nine or
01:12ten o'clock at night and now I'm starting at four o'clock in the afternoon or
01:17430 I'm headed there now so anytime you get laid down early sometimes that could be a
01:23positive if you want to drive during the day a lot of guys prefer to drive during
01:29the day I prefer to drive at night but you know because we're about to hit the
01:33Dallas traffic and then I'm going to Houston Texas the big H town we're taking
01:39a couple trailers down there and that's about 250 miles from Dallas so it won't
01:44take us long to get down there and we'll see where we go from there guys I'll see
01:48at the yard all right I've got the set hooked it's a little harder when
01:56there's just a ton of people moving around I'm trying to be more focused on
02:00just getting my stuff done and getting out so I really didn't film me hooking
02:05this set together but I did have to break one set and then make a set so I'm
02:09actually going to put in that I broke a set to make a set and which doesn't
02:14happen very often on larger yards like this a lot of times you come into this
02:17area here you drop those two trailers the yard jockeys or the hostlers or
02:22whatever you want to call them we'll break that down and put them put the
02:25pups along the fence or over here and then when you come in you you know you
02:29just hook it all up but these were trailers one was a pass-through trailer
02:33just come through from st. Louis one of the trailers is from st. Louis the other
02:37one is from Ohio somewhere up in Ohio so I've got them hooked together and we're
02:44about to leave and head off to Houston we've got it looks like four hours and I
02:52wonder what the difference in those two are it's like the same route oh we want to
02:59do that we want to do this one well showing a lot of traffic oh well we'll
03:06pick that one there basically 251 miles and we're sitting at a thousand sixty
03:12nine miles through two days so not bad a little over you know 500 a day the goal
03:18is always to be 550 or more I mean that's why you're out here here to move not not
03:24sit around so we'll get there what about 930 tonight so we'll get a little bit of
03:28daytime footage as we go maybe through Corsicana or something like that so yeah
03:31here we were endeavoring to get out of Dallas area I went instead of going
03:40the kind of down to 30 or yeah 30 and then getting 45 and going south down to
03:47Houston I'm kind of doing the loop around this is kind of the hazmat okay okay
03:55this is the hazmat route but it's also usually the faster route because there's
03:59less traffic going this way than going the other direction because the other
04:05way you got to go pretty much downtown and yeah that's it was showing that this
04:10way was 45 minutes faster due to traffic and even though this has got some
04:15traffic it's not really too bad at all
04:20yeah this is why I like driving at night you know you don't deal with any of this
04:24stuff unless there happens to be you know a wreck or something like that but you
04:29know when you're in this stuff you got cars cutting you off you got you know you
04:33got to give plenty of room
04:37but we're gonna be taking an exit up here onto highway 20 and we'll take that down
04:42and hit 45 and then we'll head south to Houston Texas and we've got two terminals
04:53down in Houston we have one that's just the Houston terminal and then we have
04:57another one's called West Houston but I'm going to the actual Houston terminal
05:01and these are both there I think I said earlier these are this is their trailers so
05:05most likely when I get in there just from what I've seen on Google Maps I'll
05:08probably just drop in the set because it's going to be at 9 30 at night they're
05:12still going to be doing outbound stuff and they'll they'll break this setting
05:19and put it to the door earlier in the morning
05:24biggie over there coming in P&D probably yeah see that truck over there he's got a
05:31twin screw most of those are line haul guys not always sometimes P&D guys do
05:40drive the twin screws during the day especially if that's a road truck that's
05:44used at night on a bid run or something but at night if you see those and usually
05:50know that those are extra board drivers for them again for the most part so I
05:56won't bore you with all this wonderful traffic down here you people who live down
06:00here in Dallas or these major metropolitan areas I don't know how y'all do it
06:07what's the on a little bit well we finally made out it out of Dallas it took
06:11took almost golly almost an hour to get to interstate 45 to start heading south
06:19so just went through Corsicana well of course can about 15 20 miles ago got a
06:26hundred forty four miles to the terminal gonna get there about 9 42 p.m.
06:33so made up a little bit of ground this is nice it's what you know I don't get to see
06:37this very often kind of a sunset I see the Sun rise usually a lot of times but
06:44this is where the peace and true tranquility come in you know just kind of
06:49sitting out here cruising traffic's thinned out for the most part
07:03yep sitting back listening to a little y2k Tim McGraw my next 30 years hey my next
07:1130 years what put me in my mid 70s oh
07:17I'll be retired doing what playing a lot of golf I guess I don't know what's your
07:22goal whenever you retire what age do you want to retire at let me know down in the
07:28comments you know I I think all of us work to get to retirement but there's a lot of
07:36people that get to retirement and they're like man it ain't everything I thought it
07:40was but you know if you got grandkids or you got something that you can fill your
07:44time with especially for men you know we spend our whole lives going out and
07:50killing things and dragging at home and then no longer when we're needed to do
07:55that we got to definitely put our focus into something else whether it's serving
07:59others through a church or a nonprofit or you know somewhere in your community you
08:05know helping grandkids you know different things like that keep you young but yeah
08:12we've uh out here just enjoying the join the drive but we should be again when we
08:23get to Houston we'll fire it up I've never been to this terminal always like going to
08:26terminals I've never been to we're gonna be right there by the gulf so maybe we'll
08:32smell a little salt water in the air but guys we'll see you when we get down here
08:38to Houston all right we're coming up on the terminal somewhere up here
08:47dusty as all get up a dust bowl come through
08:54roundhouse Lane
09:02come to some some of the some of the terminals you
09:08sometimes they're they can they can appear appear sketchy like am I really
09:16supposed to be on this road turn right on roundhouse lane then turn right
09:23then that's what I think well there must be a better way to get here and I just
09:26I just don't know
09:38all right it should be up here on the right somewhere
09:49look for lights look for Estes sign
09:54turn right
10:00just gotta be in here
10:03I don't see no others message trailers it's always a good sign
10:13arriving at houston hill one sixty-five on the left
10:35and if here's I think I'm going to drop the set further on back
10:53I think that Emma the link was in theими
11:09you
11:09the
11:47This guy right here looks like he's just come in so I'm pulling next to him.
12:21Excuse me ma'am, I've never been to this terminal, do I just drop it here or do I break
12:26it
12:26and put them up?
12:27Do they come here?
12:28Yeah.
12:29You can leave them.
12:31Leave them?
12:31You can leave them hooked if you want or you can sweat them and put them up but usually
12:36we just leave them right here.
12:36Leave them right there.
12:37Okay, I want to make sure.
12:38Do you want to check in?
12:39No, I haven't checked in yet there.
12:40Look at these trucks that are lined up right here.
12:43Uh-huh.
12:44In between like two vans.
12:45Up in the dock there's like some steps to go up into the warehouse.
12:49Oh, okay.
12:49This is like a little office inside the warehouse.
12:54Here we go.
12:59Here we go.
13:02Here we go.
13:09Here we go.
13:26So that's what you do anytime you get somewhere and you don't know what to do just ask another
13:30driver.
13:41Alright, so what I want to do is I'm going to come over here kind of out of the way
13:47and
13:50then I'm going to see if I happen to be pre-planned on something.
13:54If not, then I'll call Central and find out what's next on the agenda.
14:01We got 6 hours and 40 minutes.
14:13So, I've seen one guy had a CNG truck.
14:17Natural gas truck.
14:19I hate to try to figure out a place to do that.
14:22Alright guys, I'll be back with you.
14:24We'll see where we're going next.
14:31Well, we are headed to San Antonio, Texas from here.
14:35My dolly's on the other side of this gentleman's here.
14:38And then my lead trailer is right here next to his other one.
14:42So it's going to be real easy to just kind of pull out and back into the other one.
15:16This is about 10 feet.
15:45Gear back here.
15:50I might be able to.
15:51This ground right here is kind of sloped and so I can't pull it forward.
16:06Try to get a little bit of tension off of it so I can pull it out.
16:28There we go.
16:42Luckily we had just enough room.
16:47If not, I would have had to go get a yard jockey because I don't like dragging these when
16:50they're real heavy.
17:01Alright, now we're good.
17:03Alright, it's our turn here.
17:06Here we go.
17:12Here we go.
17:13Here we go.
17:28Here we go.
17:31Here we go.
17:39Here we go.
18:04Let's lower this trailer a little bit.
18:33Here we go.
18:50Here we go.
18:51Here we go.
19:04Start from the back.
19:06Make sure she's hooked.
19:20I like them when they're down there like that.
19:23Whoever engineered that one did a good job.
19:30Somebody's leaving some grease on this thing.
19:32Here we go.
20:09Here we go.
20:10Here we go.
20:12Here we go.
20:15Here we go.
20:46Alright, we got to go right up
20:47here to see those dispatchers get the paperwork and we'll be jetting.
20:51Next time I see you guys we'll be in San Antone.
20:54San Antone, we've been there before, they have a drop yard.
20:57If this isn't their freight, it will go in that drop yard.
21:00If it happens to be their freight, then I'll actually take it in to their terminal, which
21:02is kind of tight, but we'll see you guys when we get there.
21:12This one usually comes out and writes down the trailer numbers.
21:23Truck number, you need the truck number?
21:26Just the trailers?
21:28Yeah.
21:28Okay.
21:30Did you just drop both of them?
21:31Yeah, I'm dropping both of them here.
21:32Oh, okay.
21:34Alright, well I just found my new yard just to go send them out.
21:36Okay, appreciate it.
21:39This is a drop yard that's used by a lot of different carriers.
21:42Wire C's in here.
21:49Truck load carriers.
21:57Yeah, a room right here.
22:07At the end of the street, turn right.
22:33So I'm going to drop this set here, I'll run the paperwork over to the terminal and then
22:39give Central a call and see what happens.
22:49Well, that's it for today.
22:51I called Central.
22:52They didn't have anything else going, really needing to get anywhere.
22:55I had three and a half hours and told them I can make Temple, Texas or Corpus Christi.
23:01He goes, yeah, unfortunately, everything's already left.
23:05So I understand.
23:06So we got 458 miles for the day.
23:12And we'll head over to the terminal, drop paperwork off.
23:14I called the hotel.
23:16They got a room, Best Western.
23:18I know some people have asked, you know, Chuck, what kind of hotels do you guys stay in?
23:23This is a Best Western here.
23:25This is definitely one of the nicer ones that we do stay in.
23:29But I know Estes is constantly trying to upgrade their hotel options.
23:35And if somebody happens to watch this, the Best Westerns are usually pretty nice.
23:41But as you're out here on the road, you kind of figure out which hotels you want to stay at.
23:46Sometimes you can't always get into them because they're booked or full.
23:49But you kind of make a list.
23:51And, you know, I got to give a huge shout out to my guys, Chris and Freight Hauler 87 on
23:57YouTube.
23:58And then also Josh out of Irving.
24:02Those guys always give me tips on, you know, where I need to go.
24:05But, yeah, this is the type of hotels that we stay in here.
24:10So I'm going to go over there, take my 10-hour break, get up, and we'll get back at it.
24:16So, guys, I think that's going to end the video here.
24:19I want to thank each and every one of you for tuning in to another episode of Traveling with Chuck.
24:26As we spend our lives trucking through life.
24:34Guys, I appreciate each and every one of you.
24:37Until I see you at the next video, I hope each and every one of you have a blessed rest
24:40of your day.
24:41And remember this, life is truly short.
24:44Definitely make sure you make it sweet.
24:46We'll see you in the next one. Peace.
25:07I can't wait.
25:08I can't wait.
