00:00Dozens of world leaders will gather in Washington on Thursday for the inaugural meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump's
00:06Board of Peace.
00:08Trump is expected to outline pledges of more than $5 billion for Gaza as the territory struggles with a deepening
00:16humanitarian crisis following the war with Israel.
00:21Over 40 countries as well as the European Union have confirmed their attendance at the meeting held at U.S.
00:27Institute of Peace.
00:28Several countries, including Germany, Italy, Norway and Switzerland, are expected to attend as observers, despite not formally joining the board.
00:37However, some long-time U.S. allies, including France and Canada, will not participate, and the Vatican has also recently
00:44declined to join, dealing a blow to the initiative.
00:47Trump claims board members have also committed thousands of personnel to an international stabilization and policing force for Gaza.
00:55Indonesia has emerged as a key potential contributor, saying it is ready to deploy up to 8,000 troops if
01:02the force is approved.
01:04The board is part of Trump's 20-point peace plan for Gaza, but major questions remain, including the disarmament of
01:11Hamas, the scale of reconstruction funding, and the flow of humanitarian aid, likely to test the body's credibility in the
01:18months ahead.
