00:41Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
00:43Today marks day 13 in the search for Nancy Guthrie.
00:46And this morning, the FBI is releasing new identifying details about the suspect seen outside her home in Tucson, Arizona.
00:54After a forensics analysis of doorbell camera footage, investigators now describe the suspect as a male between 5'9 and
01:025'10 with an average build.
01:05Agents say he was carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail hiker pack backpack like this one seen here.
01:12Authorities say the updated details are intended to generate new leads.
01:16They've also increased the reward to $100,000.
01:19The Pima County Sheriff's Department says investigators have collected several items near Guthrie's home, including multiple gloves.
01:28One black glove was seen taken into evidence.
01:30The suspect captured on doorbell video the night she vanished was wearing gloves, but authorities have not said whether there's
01:37a confirmed match.
01:38Investigators are now expanding their video dragnet.
01:41Neighbors within a two-mile radius have been asked to submit any surveillance footage from January 1st through February 2nd.
01:48Not just the night she disappeared, signaling detectives may be looking for activity leading up to the suspected kidnapping.
01:56Meanwhile, new surveillance video obtained by TMZ shows a man carrying backpacks roughly five miles from the home around 1
02:04.53 a.m., minutes after Nancy's doorbell camera was disabled.
02:08Authorities want to speak with that man, though they have not confirmed any connection.
02:12The FBI continues to handle all ransom-related communications, including an unverified Bitcoin demand sent to TMZ claiming to know
02:22the kidnapper's identity.
02:23Rain is forecast for Tucson today, raising concerns about potential evidence in outdoor areas.
02:30The FBI says the search will continue regardless of the weather.
02:33Savannah Guthrie shared a home video tribute to her mother on Thursday, writing on her Instagram account,
02:39We will never give up on her.
02:41The president has ordered the world's largest aircraft carrier out of the Caribbean and sent to the Middle East,
02:49intensifying the U.S. military posture as tensions with Iran remain high.
02:53U.S. officials say the USS Gerald Ford and its escort ships could depart in the coming days,
02:59a move that would put two American aircraft carriers in the region alongside the USS Abraham Lincoln strike group.
03:06President Trump has increased pressure on Iran while pushing for a nuclear deal, warning of, quote,
03:12very traumatic consequences if talks fail, and suggesting a time frame of about a month for an agreement.
03:19The Ford has been operating in the Caribbean after being redirected there last fall as part of a broader U
03:25.S. military buildup tied to counter-drug operations and pressure on Venezuela.
03:30Officials now say the carrier and its strike group are expected to cross the Atlantic and enter the Mediterranean before
03:37heading to the Middle East.
03:39Homeland security funding is on the brink of running out this weekend after Congress failed to reach an agreement.
03:46And right now, that looks unlikely.
03:48Senators voted Thursday on a funding bill to keep the Department of Homeland Security funded through September.
03:54But the measure fell short, 52 to 47, well below the 60 votes needed to advance it.
04:00Without a deal, DHS funding will lapse at midnight, although the two agencies at the center of the deadlock will
04:06still have money.
04:07That's because ICE and Customs and Border Protection have separate funding through President Trump's so-called Big Beautiful Bill.
04:14The standoff is rooted in a broader dispute over immigration policy and enforcement.
04:19Senate Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, have refused to support the bill without reforms to ICE and other federal enforcement
04:26agencies after two U.S. citizens were killed by federal agents in Minneapolis last month.
04:32If Republicans want to keep DHS funded, they need to get serious.
04:39They need to sit down.
04:41They need to negotiate in good faith.
04:43Produce legislation that actually rains in ICE and stops the violence.
04:47Key sticking points include whether to impose new limits on federal immigration officers and whether agents should be allowed to
04:54wear masks during enforcement operations.
04:57A federal judge is blocking the Pentagon from punishing Senator Mark Kelly over a video urging service members to refuse
05:05illegal orders.
05:07U.S. District Judge Richard Leon ruled Thursday that the Defense Department violated Kelly's First Amendment rights
05:13when it tried to demote him and cut his military retirement pay.
05:17Kelly, a retired Navy captain, drew sharp criticism from the Trump administration after he and five other Democrats posted a
05:25video telling troops,
05:26you can refuse illegal orders.
05:29Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth launched a review, issued a formal censure, and began proceedings that could have reduced Kelly's retired
05:36rank and pension.
05:38But the court stepped in.
05:39In a blunt 29-page ruling, Judge Leon wrote,
05:43This court has all it needs to conclude that defendants have trampled on Senator Kelly's First Amendment freedoms
05:49and threatened the constitutional liberties of millions of military retirees.
05:54The judge barred the Pentagon from taking any adverse action against Kelly while the case moves forward.
06:00Hegseth responded on social media, saying the ruling will be immediately appealed, adding,
06:06Sedition is sedition is sedition, Captain.
06:09Amazon says it has scrap plans to link its Ring doorbell cameras with the police tech company,
06:15Flock Safety.
06:17The decision follows mounting criticism over privacy concerns,
06:20and just days after Amazon aired a Ring ad during the Super Bowl that renewed scrutiny.
06:26The proposed partnership, announced in October, would have created a feature called
06:30Community Requests, allowing Ring users to opt-in and share doorbell footage with law enforcement.
06:36The Super Bowl ad highlighted a separate consumer feature called Search Party,
06:41which allows Ring users to share video to help locate lost pets.
06:45Critics argued that pairing neighborhood doorbell cameras with police systems
06:49and potentially with facial recognition tools could allow authorities to track people.
06:55Amazon and Flock say the decision to end the agreement was mutual.
06:58Neither company tied the move directly to the backlash over the ad.
07:03Finally this morning, this is right up my alley.
07:05The U.S. men's hockey team is off to a strong start in pursuit of Olympic gold in Italy.
07:11Team USA opened with a 5-1 win over Latvia in preliminary play.
07:16Brock Nelson scored twice, while Brady Kachuk, Tage Thompson, and Austin Matthews each added a goal.
07:22The Americans have not won Olympic gold in men's hockey since the 1980 miracle on ice.
07:27More than four decades ago, but this roster is stacked with NHL talent and widely viewed as one of the
07:34program's strongest teams in years.
07:37Nelson also brings some Olympic pedigree.
07:39Listen to this.
07:40His uncle, Dave Christian, played on the 1980 gold medal team, of course, coached by Herb Brooks.
07:46And his grandfather, Bill Christian, played on the U.S. team that won gold in 1960.
07:51So some great bloodlines there.
07:54By the way, the U.S. faces Denmark next on Saturday.
07:58Also worth mentioning, Canada opened with a statement win, shutting out the Czech Republic 5-0 and enters the tournament
08:04with high expectations as well.
08:07Before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
08:09This morning, a quirky Mardi Gras tradition kicks off in New Orleans as crews grease balcony poles to launch the
08:16carnival weekend.
08:17At two, former CNN anchor Don Lemon will make his first court appearance in a federal case tied to his
08:23alleged role in an anti-ice protest at a St. Paul church in January.
08:28That same hour, President Trump will meet with American troops in Fort Bragg, tied to last month's operation that captured
08:35Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
08:37At three, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Fry talks to reporters about the economic and social impact of Operation Metro Surge on
08:45his city as the drawdown begins there.
