00:03so i'm here with zach wilde it's an odyssey check-in exciting day uh well not yet but march
00:0927th engines of demolition new black label society this is the 12th album from black label society
00:15yes well you know i mean it's it's really no big deal i mean i just it's people are like
00:20well zach
00:21what's the difference between this album what makes it so special compared to all the other
00:24records i go well first off it's of all the black label albums this is the new one and then
00:32and then second off they're like well the songs all sound the same i go i know because that's all
00:38we do is just put different song titles and lyrics to these things just put them out there i mean
00:45you gotta think smarter not harder so you could these could have been named anything they could
00:51on any album there's nothing special about just put new lyrics and a new song title on it no one
00:56will know the difference they're all just hammered anyway so just go for it but maybe the greatest
01:01black label title ever lord humongous yes and that's what i'm saying these albums are all
01:09based on being a relationship therapist and and i help people's marriages you know you have name and
01:16blood you know you're all in you're just you're just completely committed to the project then you
01:22have something like the hand of tomorrow's grave you know when you put that engagement ring on
01:28need i say anymore and then broken and blind that's what happens when you're divorced
01:34you're broke and you're blind with confusion and rage and that lord humongous do i need to go any
01:41further with that one name name and blood is signing the marriage certificate without a doubt
01:46and then you then you have you know engines of demolition those are that's also referred to as
01:52marital aids you know you know i heard i heard your wife in the background and you have one of
01:59the
01:59great marriages in rock like you've been with your wife a long time how did your wife feel because when
02:04you came onto the scene you looked like a supermodel you you could have been on like a kelvin
02:09klein billboard and then you well that's because i was pamma anderson stunt double you know when i
02:14first came out but then you grew that beard like a guy like you normally doesn't grow like if you
02:21ever considered shaving the beard off and going back because you you honestly look like a model when
02:27you came out you were just this young dude long blonde hair you know you you were that dude and
02:31then you grew the beard you still look great of course but would you ever consider going back to the
02:36uh the old school zach wild look just for like one day only and it's gonna take you a year
02:41to
02:41say when i shave off the beard when i didn't have the beard that was the last time that barb
02:46ever slept
02:46with me but i mean i'll end up getting lucky if i shave it off but uh no it's so
02:53funny because when
02:54we did the uh the rock star movie i did uh at the end of the you know because obviously
02:59i had to
02:59shave every day for the movie when we were doing it so uh when i at the end of the
03:05movie we recorded
03:06you know it was like a where are they now with the band that was like the end of the
03:10movie how the
03:10movie ended and they were filming clips of you know we were doing those segments of the movie
03:15and i had a beard at the end of the movie so it was like a glue on beard exactly
03:20what it is now so i
03:21could test drive it and see what i look like with a beard without knowing i remember like you know
03:27me
03:27and you doing the movie and i'm like look at that going bro i think after the movie i'm gonna
03:31i'm
03:31just gonna let it go and grow it you know actual beard so uh yeah because our older kids they
03:40know
03:40what i look like without it and then i remember you know and but like sabbath you know our youngest
03:46he's 13 now he's only known me with the beard so you should make one of those i've seen those
03:52revelation videos on youtube like the dad shaves the beard and every time you know what happens zach
03:56the kid starts the kid starts crying yeah the baby yeah they freak out because they're like
04:01what happened you know yeah they don't think it's their dad anymore it's kind of funny man
04:05so you you know you just mentioned your your son said that's why barb thinks he's sleeping with
04:10another guy you know and she's like thank god zach sucks you you have a song on the new album
04:17called
04:18ozzy song that one's not out yet what can you tell me about that song um yeah it's about the
04:23greatest that ever was and the greatest that i'll ever be but it's uh yes um yeah obviously
04:29it's about eyes so i you know did you did you write that after he passed away or before
04:33no after i was passed away totally but uh you know so when we we laid ozzy to rest uh
04:40you know
04:41after we did back to the beginning you know i was talking with oz and everything and him going
04:45it's like we got to do another record you know like when you were going through your almond
04:48skinnered phase and we'll do another album you know like it's heavy but melodic you know like
04:54on no more tears i said all right well surely you must be kidding he goes i'm not kidding
04:59and don't call me surely i was like all right i see what you did there but uh but no
05:06it was just so
05:07i figured you know after we got done with back to the beginning you know we will end up making
05:14records or whatever you know so you know like how oz made the two albums in between there and
05:21then we'll you know maybe mom will book you know back to the beginning once a year so because it
05:26went
05:26over so well you know do another one in like brazil do another one in japan do one in in
05:32america
05:33somewhere do one in australia you know do like a yearly event and give us something to shoot for while
05:38he's rehabbing and trying to get better so uh that's why i figured where we were at but uh yeah
05:45but then after we went over there and laid him the rest and you know being a pallbearer and my
05:51you know
05:52our oldest son who's ozzy's god son uh you know we were pallbearers laying on carrying oz to
05:59final resting place after that after that when we got home we did uh finished up the pantera celebration
06:06run i got home sat in the library looked at one of his books and i was just and i
06:10just wrote the
06:11lyrics i put the music on and i said i i had the music but uh i was gonna obviously
06:17you know i was
06:18happy with that the way it came out but i didn't have lyrics for it and everything like that but
06:21that's why i just wrote the lyrics right there for ozzy i can't wait to hear that just kept referring
06:26to
06:26it as ozzy song babe put on ozzy song when we were in the truck listening to it when we'd
06:32be going
06:32somewhere so uh i just said i'm just gonna name it ozzy song you know because that's what it is
06:38you know because if somebody asked me zach did you write that song for ozzy it's like yeah and so
06:42i'll just call it ozzy song so there you go that was a beautiful moment at the before the performance
06:48you're doing mama i'm coming home and that was the song he started breaking down on i don't know if
06:52this was planned i don't think it was you grab a mic and you start singing back up with ozzy
06:57to help
06:57him out that wasn't planned right no i mean i would always i'll i'd always be there for him
07:02like if he was having a rough night or he was feeling sick or something like that you know like
07:07if oz was you know the higher notes or whatever if i had to sing you know do my ozzy
07:12voice you know
07:12being in a in a zach sabbath wedding band you know i mean i because it's our cover band so
07:18you know
07:19you you have the high voice so you could do when we do zeppelin you could sing the zeppelin stuff
07:23for the
07:24the sabbath stuff i can i can imitate ozzy so i'll do the sabbath stuff and jd could do the
07:29door
07:29stuff or whatever you know when we're if we're going to be in a wedding band but uh yeah so
07:34like
07:34i would just do i would always back eyes since the beginning when i was playing with him if there
07:39was ever a rough night i would just you know have something so he could lean on and we'd sing
07:45it
07:45together but uh no but i mean the mic was stuck all the way i was in no man's land
07:51i'm like oh i'm i'm
07:52quite the metal conundrum right now i'm in a pickled metal conundrum i i go yeah i'm gonna
07:58have to stop playing the guitar to get the guitar over the mic so i was just like uh yeah
08:04but that's
08:04what no we didn't plan on that but i mean i just figured it was the day before rehearsal like
08:09oz did
08:09he did really good because i i was just wondering how he was gonna do how he's gonna you know
08:15because
08:15we haven't done a show in six years that was the greatest send-off ever for anyone without
08:21without a doubt i told you know sharon i was like mom that was the you couldn't have given him
08:27a
08:27greater gift you know freddie mercury didn't even have that so you know but the difference is freddie
08:32mercury was gone ozzy was there so ozzy was a part of it that that's way different yeah so i
08:39mean like
08:39oz could see all his his old buddies friends crew people throughout the years people he's known
08:45since like 1972 with black sabbath you know crew people like oz what's going on you know like to
08:51see friends and then and then so many people he's known throughout the years in the business and then
08:57in bands and then all the younger guys like ozzy was like i met axl rose it was so great
09:03i never met
09:03axl rose i was like yeah it was hilarious man you know so um yeah it was great it was
09:10a beautiful
09:10and then seeing how happy he was when we were up there playing it was the best and now sharon's
09:15talking about bringing back oz fest do you think it would be like an aftershock lollapalooza type
09:20thing like just a festival or do you think it would actually go back to being a touring thing like
09:25it used to be uh i mean i think it's great you know i mean i don't know why it
09:30ever even went
09:30away in the first place because i mean it's a great it's a great platform for hard rock music
09:35and and new bands and you know and the the older bands so i think it's great that you know
09:41mom's
09:42thinking about bringing it back why not that was the biggest part of my childhood like every summer
09:47i'm like who's playing who's playing oz fest this year the one year when black sabbath reunited
09:52you had ozzy play a full set then black sabbath came out like pantera slayer all these bands
09:59every year were at oz fest like oz fest was the only place that supported hard rock and metal back
10:05yeah without a doubt without a doubt so that's i mean it was great you know because i mean you
10:11always remember because it's an event you know um and it almost didn't even like i mean it's great
10:16that you have awesome bands on it but you're going there because it's it's like going to a swap meet
10:20you know you're just going to have a great time you know i mean so it's uh yeah i think
10:26it would
10:26be great if it comes back it'll be awesome so you just did this huge thing with pantera and you
10:31know
10:31i was one of those people before you guys got back together and i don't always say i would never
10:35see
10:36pantera without dime bag and vinnie until i saw you at aftershock and it's you just said it earlier
10:43you said it was a celebration of pantera and i'm watching all these 10 year old kids 15 year old
10:49kids
10:49who have never seen pantera they don't know one pantera song you're you guys number one it was
10:56awesome uh number two you're showing these kids this music they they didn't know what it was and you
11:02just created thousands of new pantera fans who are going to go back listen to dime bag on the album
11:08listen to vinnie paul so i actually think i think what you guys did was amazing and and i'm really
11:14excited
11:15to actually even maybe have a new pantera album like is that something you guys would consider
11:21i mean you know but like you're saying though you have the old pantera faithful that are coming down
11:28and you know that are like man we saw pantera when there was like four people in the bar you
11:32know in a bar and grill and and it's just like until you know they until they got signed and
11:37blah blah
11:37blah and you know all the mountains pantera conquered and then you have the younger kids that are
11:42there they're like yeah my dad and my uncle told me how awesome they saw pantera back in the day
11:47or
11:47whatever you know and you're keeping you know dime and vinnie like philip says that every night keep
11:53them keep them in your mind and keep them alive you know so every night when we do you know
11:58when i do
11:58the experience hendrix crusades it's always great because you're you're celebrating this jimmy's
12:06greatness so on every night when we're up there with ozzy whether it's jake whether it's me whether
12:13it's you know joe holmes whether it's gus g or brad gillis or bernie torme we're all celebrating
12:19randy you know when you're playing mr crowley or you're playing i don't know a crazy trick you're
12:25celebrating randy so i look at this as the same thing you're out there celebrating i was always like
12:33it's a tribute to the guys so of course it's that no one's ever going to replace dime and vinnie
12:39don't
12:39like no one's ever going to replace john bonham or randy rhodes you know so because they're one of a
12:45kind guys so it's just um i just always looked at it as a beautiful tribute man and you were
12:53actually
12:54friends with dime bag like dime bag was a good friend of yours it's not like you're just some guy
12:57you and charlie i mean you and charlie i laid him the rest yeah i was one of his ball
13:01bears man
13:01yeah you guys were you you and charlie were the two perfect people to pick to do this
13:06yeah well you know i mean because charlie charlie's relationship with dime both dime and vinnie as well
13:11so you know it's like football season i've ever been ended up getting tickets for me in philly uh
13:17who does security with black label you know and we've known vinnie for all that time when we were doing
13:24uh the mega death tour with them you know with device with dave draymond hell yeah and black label
13:30we're all rolling together vinnie got us some tickets to go see the cowboys and the giants
13:35so because no me and phil are giants guys so we went out and seen that you know start barbecuing
13:39at
13:40vinnie's house go to the game come back and we're still barbecuing at vinnie's house so you know
13:45it was i always tell everybody if you're gonna if you're gonna honor vinnie and dime they look like
13:49berserkers every day was friday saturday and sunday yeah you know there were no weekdays you
13:54know it was just like it was a it was a living breathing weekend you know so and that's the
13:59only way to live you enjoy you either be happy or miserable make up your mind and vinnie and dime
14:04would be like that's an easy choice man you know fire up the barbecue and call up the fellas
14:09we're we're barbecuing get the beef brisket going and we're rolling i remember when i when i was 21 it
14:15was my first time ever on a plane i'm from chicago and we flew from chicago to dallas and we
14:20went to
14:21the clubhouse which was the strip club owned by vinnie from pantera i when you go to the clubhouse
14:28just never go to another strip club because that was the greatest strip club of all time i know it's
14:33gone now but i'm sure you've been there right yeah we were we popped down there one time during
14:37the black label during the berserking days yeah without a doubt i mean well if you're down there of
14:42course you got to pop in and go see vinnie you know yeah i think you have it figured out
14:47because
14:47you you just do everything you you remind you and slash are the two guys you're you're just always
14:52playing you're you you have you have zach sabbath you have the the jimmy stuff the pantera stuff the
14:56black label stuff like you just love music you're always doing something there's not many guys like
15:01you that have your hand in that many awesome things well i mean i always tell like you know people
15:06are like when they go zach do you have any advice for my son or my daughter you know they're
15:10playing
15:10music i go yeah i go you want to do music for the rest of your life right no yeah
15:15and i go
15:15well make make your band your mom and pop shop you know your coffee house just make it
15:22make it your life then you're all in it's like jimmy page his whole existence was led zeppelin to this
15:28day
15:28yeah we all in dedicate your life to it you know because and then you know well you can't put
15:34your
15:34eggs in one basket no you do put your eggs in one basket because we're out in the middle of
15:38the ocean
15:39we gotta find land man like vikings we gotta find land otherwise we're gonna die out here
