00:00A mother and her cheerleader daughter met a tragic end in an apparent murder-suicide in Las Vegas on
00:05Sunday. The two were in Sin City for a cheer competition with Utah Extreme Cheer when the
00:10group announced that one of their members, 11-year-old Addie Smith, and her mother,
00:14Tanya McGeehan, had vanished ahead of the event. Their bodies were later found in a hotel room
00:19at the Rio, where authorities believed McGeehan shot and killed her daughter before turning the
00:24gun on herself, leaving an apparent suicide note. After the discovery, Utah Extreme Cheer said in a
00:30statement, quote, with the heaviest hearts, we share the devastating news that our sweet athlete Addie
00:36has passed away. McGeehan and her ex-husband Brad Smith spent nine years in a bitter custody fight
00:43over the middle schooler. According to documents reviewed by the Daily Mail, the courts were
00:48involved in every detail of how the young girl was handed off from one parent to another, down to
00:53how far apart they needed to park their cars at Addie's school, five spaces. The preteen was
01:00directed to walk between them by herself, and when school was not in session, the handover took
01:05place at a local police department. The parents were also warned to stay apart at school events
01:10and to never film their custody handovers.
