00:00Nick Reiner, the son of filmmaker Rob Reiner, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Monday,

00:08in connection with the stabbing deaths of his parents at their Los Angeles home.

00:12Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonald said officers responded to the West Los Angeles

00:17residents at about 3.40 p.m. on December 14, where they discovered the bodies of an adult

00:23man and woman.

00:24The victims were later identified as Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner.

00:30We have our robbery homicide division handling the investigation.

00:34They worked throughout the night on this case and were able to take into custody Nick Reiner,

00:43a suspect in this case.

00:45He was subsequently booked for murder and is being held on $4 million bail.

00:50So pretty much that's what I can share at this point, but again, of every very tragic incident.

00:56The 32-year-old was taken into custody hours after the couple was found dead.

01:01Prosecutors are expected to review the case on Tuesday as they consider formal charges.

01:07Representatives for the Reiner family did not immediately respond to requests for comment,

01:12and it was not immediately clear whether Nick Reiner has legal representation.

01:16Nick Reiner has spoken openly over the years about his struggles with substance abuse.

01:22Rob Reiner previously revealed that his son began using drugs at age 15

01:26and had multiple stints in rehabilitation by the age of 19.

01:30Nick later began writing about his experiences,

01:33which he and his father developed into the semi-autobiographical 2016 film Being Charlie.

01:39In a 2016 interview with People magazine,

01:43Nick Reiner said he had experienced periods of homelessness while avoiding rehabilitation

01:48and had entered treatment facilities at least 17 times.

01:53Rob and Michelle Reiner, who married in 1989 after meeting on the set of When Harry Met Sally,

01:59also have two other children, Jake and Romy.

02:02Rob Reiner was previously married to actor, producer, and director Penny Marshall

02:07and is the adoptive father of her daughter.
