00:10Authorities in Cuba began the distribution of aid in food and sanitary products provided by the Mexican government as Havana's
00:17energy and economic crisis would worsen.
00:20Iran showed signs of potentially reaching an understanding with the U.S. following talks on Iran's nuclear program in Geneva
00:28on Tuesday.
00:30Eleven people have been arrested over the death of far-right activist Quentin Derenc, killed in a violent brawl in
00:38Lyon.
00:40Aid in food and sanitary products provided by the Mexican government to Cuba was being distributed Tuesday to various regions,
00:48aiming to reach vulnerable groups.
00:51According to Cuba's Interior Commerce Ministry, the government plans to deliver the aid to Havana, Artemisa and Juventud Island.
01:00News stories broadcast on state-owned TV showed boxes stored in a warehouse in Havana and their distribution to the
01:08local stores.
01:09The aid from Mexico comes as Cuba's economic and energy crisis, which has persisted for five years, worsens two weeks
01:18after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose sanctions on countries that sell oil to Cuba.
01:24The Trump administration's capture and ousting of Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro has seen Cuba lose an ally on which it depended
01:34for part of its oil supply.
01:35In the last two weeks, the island has felt the effects of the energy blockade even more, including reduced working
01:43hours, bank closures, transportation limitations and airline route cancellations.
01:49On Tuesday, the Spanish government said it will send food and medical supplies to Cuba in response to the crisis.
02:02Iran showed signs of potentially reaching an understanding with the U.S. following talks on Iran's nuclear program in Geneva
02:09on Tuesday.
02:10The talks came as the U.S. ramped up its military presence in the Middle East and Iran announced a
02:16temporary closure of the Strait of Hormuz for live fire drills.
02:20A new window of opportunity has opened, under which we had the second round of the negotiations with the United
02:28States earlier today here in Geneva.
02:31We are hopeful that negotiation will lead to a sustainable and negotiated solution, which can serve the interests of relevant
02:40parties and the broader region.
02:42Prior to Tuesday's talks, U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly threatened to use force to pressure Tehran to limit its
02:50nuclear program and over its deadly crackdown on recent nationwide protests.
02:55Iran has said it would not hesitate to respond with an attack if the U.S. does so first.
03:00At the same time, as demonstrated, during the aggression of 13 June 2025, Iran remains fully prepared to defend itself
03:10against any threat or act of aggression.
03:15The consequences of any attack against Iran will not be confined to its borders.
03:20A U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity said the talks yielded progress but said many details still
03:27needed to be discussed.
03:28The official added that the Iranian delegation plans to submit a more detailed proposal in the next two weeks.
03:39Ukraine has imposed new sanctions against Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko for helping Russia to sustain its war against Ukraine.
03:49Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya spoke to Euronews about her country's influence on Russia's war.
03:57Russia can use Belarus as a platform for pressure and even aggression against Europe.
04:03Under Lukashenko, Belarus has become deeply integrated into Russia's war machine.
04:08Russian troops train there.
04:11Joint military infrastructure is being modernized.
04:15Russia has deployed nuclear weapons in Belarus and is building infrastructure for systems like the Russian missile.
04:22This creates direct threat not only to Ukraine but also to Poland, the Baltic states and actually wider Europe.
04:30It shortens warning times and increases escalation risks.
04:35Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that without the assistance,
04:38the number of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure and railways in northern Ukraine would likely have been lower.
04:44Russian society is overwhelmingly against the war.
04:48The army's loyalty in such a scenario is not guaranteed.
04:52And Lukashenko understands that direct participation could destabilize his own regime.
04:58So, yes, Moscow will continue to pressure Minsk.
05:01But Belarus remains one of the weakest link in Russia's regional architecture.
05:06A democratic Belarus would remove major military foothold from Russia's western flank.
05:11This is why the Belarusian dimension must be part of any serious discussion about European security and the end of
05:19this war.
05:20The sanctions package comes after the U.S. eased some of its sanctions on Belarus,
05:25and the country joined the controversial Board of Peace introduced by President Donald Trump.
05:33The Trump administration has helped Europeans stop hitting the snooze button and wake up.
05:39U.S. ambassador to the EU, Andrew Posder, told Euronews.
05:43He held U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's call for greater alignment between the two in his speech
05:49at the Munich Security Conference as positive for the transatlantic alliance.
05:54Posder also praised European progress in aligning its approach to migration policy with the U.S.,
06:00pointing to what he thinks is one of Europe's key issues, the impact of mass migration.
06:05There's a difference between managed migration and mass migration.
06:08And I think what we've seen over the past decade is just flows of people coming onto the continent.
06:13And the reaction has not been positive.
06:17When probed with numbers showing that migrants' arrivals in the EU have in fact declined compared with previous years,
06:24Posder argued that Rubio was, quote, talking about the impact of the past mass migration
06:29and the civilizational challenge that poses.
06:36Five days after a violent brawl that led to the death of Quentin,
06:40a far-right and identitarian activist, 11 people have been arrested.
06:46Six are suspected of having taken part in the violence and three of having provided support,
06:52according to a source close to the case.
06:55Among those arrested is an aide to far-left France Embaid MP Raphaël Arnaud,
07:00who said he had begun terminating his contract.
07:04Higher Education Minister Philippe Baptiste said university meetings will be banned if they risk public disorder.
07:11Mathilde Pannot, president of the France Embaid Group in the National Assembly, denounced the decision.
07:40In Parliament, Sébastien Lecornu said he wouldn't prejudge the investigation,
07:46but urged France Embaid to clean up its ranks and reject political violence.
08:02The left-wing party LFE has denied any involvement in the killing, which remains under investigation.
08:09On French television, political scientist Xavier Chrétier said that in 40 years,
08:1550 people have died during ideological violence.
08:20Four departments in Western France remain on red alert for flooding until Thursday
08:26and nine others are on orange alert for rain and flooding with the arrival of Storm Pedro.
08:31After a lull on Tuesday afternoon,
08:34Météo France announced further widespread disruption in the west of the country.
08:39Already experiencing some of its worst flooding in decades after days of rain,
08:44authorities have spoken of record levels of humidity not seen since 1959
08:49and linked it to climate change.
08:52Charente-Maritime, Gironde, Lotte-Garonne and Maine-et-Loire
08:56are the departments most affected.
08:58The floodwaters forced the evacuation of nearly 2,000 residents between Agen and Bordeaux
09:04and caused thousands of power outages, officials said.
09:08The French government said it will provide support to communities affected by the bad weather.
09:13With most of France still on flood alert, weather authorities have said Storm Pedro,
09:18arriving from Brittany, is set to impact France on Wednesday and Thursday,
09:23bringing another bout of heavy rainfall and winds.
09:29U.S. civil rights leader and two-time presidential candidate Rev. Jesse Jackson has died aged 84.
09:38The news was confirmed by his family, who said that he died peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
09:44Born in 1941 in Greenville, South Carolina, Jackson rose to prominence in the 1960s
09:52as a leader in Martin Luther King's Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
09:57Jackson launched two social justice and activism organizations, Operation Push in 1971
10:04and the National Rainbow Coalition years later.
10:08He ran twice for the U.S. Democratic Party's nomination for president in 1984 and 1988.
10:16He advocated in the U.S. and abroad for the poor and underrepresented
10:20on issues from voting rights and job opportunities to education and health care.
10:31Portugal has topped the EU leaderboard for renewable electricity with a record 80.7% of its power
10:38coming from green sources in January.
10:41Surges in hydropower and wind led the charge, marking the country's best performance since
10:45a massive blackout triggered chaos across the Iberian Peninsula in 2025.
10:52While Norway leads Europe overall with over 96%, Portugal's recent performance has pushed
10:58it ahead of Denmark into second place.
11:01The shift is delivering significant financial benefits with the Portuguese Association for
11:06Renewable Energies estimating savings of 703 million euros compared to natural gas.
11:13Despite previous claims that green energy caused the 2025 blackout, official probes blame
11:18technical errors and poor grid planning rather than renewables.
11:23Experts now warn that while green power production is booming, Europe must invest nearly 584 billion
11:30euros to modernize its aging grid infrastructure by 2013.
