00:06I started this run club as sort of a meeting point between dance and fitness because I ended up at
00:15Space Nightclub after running the Miami Marathon. It was 9 a.m. DJ Tennis was playing. I texted him,
00:21I got on the guest list and I ran there. I walked, it's like three blocks away from the finish
00:24line.
00:25I wandered over, got in with my bib on and everything and I was like hanging out. I was
00:30like this is the best time ever and I never really make it to space that late because I usually
00:33go to
00:34bed. I don't really want to, I'm not some DJing. I don't stay out till 7, 8 in the morning
00:38like
00:39psychopaths. But I was up early and I went to the song play. I was like this is the best
00:42way to enjoy
00:43a DJ. I felt like so clear-headed, had the best time. I loved the music. I was chilling. I
00:48made a
00:48TikTok and the next year like 40 kids did the same thing. They ran the marathon and went to space.
00:53So I said we got to do this properly. So I think we had the idea. My team, teamwork,
01:01Wasserman Music and we put together the first one in San Francisco about a year and a half ago and
01:06it
01:06was a big success. So we started to make this in many different cities and I think Phoenix was
01:11the last one we expected. We almost had 10,000 kids here. I thought it was gonna be cold. The
01:17weather said it was like maybe 50 degrees but it warmed up. This is Arizona. So the sun comes out
01:22it starts to cook and we had a lot of we had a lot of runners and we had the
01:27fastest runners of the
01:28history of Run Club. One kid did like 15 minutes in like 20 seconds. Which is insane for a 5k.
01:34That's
01:34like would win like a state championship. I think I did 21 59 or 22. I did like right on
01:43the nose there.
01:44I ran like a little over 700 miles. I did New York 1950. Very fast. I threw up at the
01:51end of that.
01:52I like raving. I'm a fan of Diplo and I'm wanting to do more fitness stuff. I don't actually run.
01:58I thought I was gonna walk. I work Converse. But I'm like it's a great combination of race and rave,
02:06you know. So healthy and music, good music. You get to party and enjoy it afterwards.
02:12But the intersection of fitness and music is great because it's the same energy. You want to feel great.
02:17You want to I guess heighten your senses and dance and I think you know going outside and running
02:23and going to rave it's like the same activity. I wanted to try something new so I was like you
02:28know what I was like Diplo's doing the the 5k. I'm like so you know what let's go ahead and
02:31do
02:32something different for this year and so of course rave so I mean like why not. So that's why I
02:36was
02:36like you know it's a small run and then just come back and go straight to the rave. Yeah we
02:40got
02:40to do it. We have to. We have to. It's a must. This is fun to do that. It's fun
02:51to take care of
02:54your body. It's so easy to try you know and I think when I was growing up we never had
02:59influencers telling us that you can go outside you can eat healthy. Now it's you know with
03:05Instagram and TikTok there's so many people promoting healthy lifestyles and people can see it. When we were
03:10younger we just had advertisements that were like jeez jeez jeez this is your life this is your life
03:13this is how you have a party this is drinking this is that. I think a lot of people don't
03:16realize
03:16there's another side to it and this makes it look cool. You can literally go out be sober enjoy music
03:24and have fun with your friends. You know run clubs have gotten real popular over the past few years
03:28because I think a lot of us as we get a little bit older exiting some of the bar phase
03:32and into more
03:33of the health phase so this kind of blends both of those you know you get to come out here
03:36have a good
03:37run and then see some awesome music so. Running is very it's like a great equalizer anybody can do
03:43it you don't have to be great at this sport it's all about you beating yourself it's all about your
03:48body and doing what you can do the best so if you run in the morning or whatever time of
03:53day that's
03:53gonna be the hardest thing you do all day long so the rest of day is easy but I always
03:57tell people
03:58it's something you can do by yourself and always inspire yourself to do it if you can get up and
04:02do that
04:03you don't need any drugs you don't need any uh caffeine you know it clears your head just getting
04:10up and like putting the work in just doing something every day it's so great for your brain. I think
04:14that's the big reason why we wanted to come too I don't think a lot of DJs get together and
04:17put
04:17together a run club so yeah it's a nice mix of wellness and rave which is like a niche thing
04:23so
04:24it's really cool because it's kind of what we're stepping into in this year you know. You do not have
04:28to
04:28run the whole thing you just got to meet me at the end and have the best day of your
04:32lives and
04:33do great. I love you guys thank you so much as I got older I started running in Philadelphia because
04:48I lived up in North Philadelphia and we had a nice little river there that reached the art museum I
04:54just love that run up and down the Schuylkill River and every time I would run I crossed a different
04:58bridge so like the first bridge was one mile second bridge is three miles the fourth bridge is five and
05:02at the very end is like a 13 mile run so every couple months I would try to get to
05:06the next bridge
05:06and run so I just kind of made different personal goals running in Philadelphia. I like being faster
05:11I like being like shorter faster that's more like my lifestyle actually running like marathons every
05:16couple weeks is just a crazy thing those people are different I'm not that person. I do not want
05:21people to think I'm a real I do not have the skill of these real runners like these guys at
05:26marathon every
05:27day there's these ultra marathons you know Alexi Pappas runs like 300 miles a week like I don't
05:33I'm not even going to compete with them I just want to be fast and have fun you know and
05:37be fit but
05:38there's somebody so no disrespect to the runners I don't want to be lumped up with them I'm not a
05:43runner like they are they are the real deal.
05:52I played a song at the end I was testing some stuff out like just just high energy
05:56fun melodic house music or dance music that I want to make that really represents a run club
06:01because I always I put out dance music randomly between productions I'm more like a producer the
06:06last couple of years working on like k-pop and different artist records or country records but
06:11I like to make dance music I just don't want to be in the the competitive dance scene like I'm
06:16not
06:16I'm like touring my dance music a lot the run club I just realized is a really good vehicle to
06:20play
06:21dance music I'm like 47 I don't know like I'm still DJ I've been DJ for like 30 years
06:26if I went out every night and DJ'd like what you think it is like having a drink
06:30tear my body up I would I literally would be dead
06:40you know we had an amazing year we we moved over 100,000 tickets to this with so I hope
06:45to
06:46grow this business grow the running community even bigger bring more people into it that weren't
06:53weren't aware of it weren't aware of their bodies I hope so I hope we grow this big I mean
06:56even if it's
06:57not me to take it a lot more runners doing John summit big up all these guys that are running
07:00and
07:01promoting in their crowds they're probably going to have an economy in three or four years that
07:05is built around health and wellness not about open bars and and drugs and you know pharmaceuticals
07:12it's going to be about your body and enjoying your life so after doing this uh I definitely want to
07:16run again yeah and actually maybe an actual 5k yeah but the rave motivated me to start it
07:21and then now I'm like okay maybe I should do an actual 5k thank you diplo for the run we
07:27are
07:28excited to do it again if you do it next year so we're definitely here please come back my legs
07:32hurt
