01:55And this year, we've expanded into e-commerce
01:59And this space in itself promises to bring three million jobs on the African continent in 2025 alone
02:11The partners here at Viva Tech, specifically at the Africa Tech Awards

02:33I myself grew up in Southern Africa
02:37In what was known as the apartheid era
02:40So, my vantage point and understanding of the world
02:43Always has that in the background of my lens
02:46And when I was growing up, I remember the global influence and impact
02:52Back then, of diversity, equity, and inclusion
02:56By watching leaders like Nelson Mandela
02:59I often ask myself, how did he lead back then?
03:04How did a group of people unite and come together back then without the technological advances that we have today?
03:14And I think I'm inspired by the idea of modeling diverse leadership and broadening our concept of diversity, equity, and
03:24inclusion
03:25In our global world right now, we say we embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion
03:30But our actions and how we present ourselves, specifically in our organizations in the tech sector
03:36There is a lot of work to be done
03:38And what's needed is for us to apply our leadership and model in the way that Mandela did a more
03:44inclusive approach
03:45He brought on leaders from diverse backgrounds and different sectors and different levels of influence
03:52To be able to rebuild South Africa
03:55I watched it with my own eyes
03:57And back then, I didn't realize because I was a child
04:00But today, I understand the importance of inclusive leadership
04:03And I understand the importance of broadening our concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion
04:08In our global markets
04:09And how we view and appreciate African talent, African investment, and African leadership
04:17I think it's important that the countries with which you derive your resources
04:23You give back to them, right?
04:26Africa has been giving resources to the world for centuries
04:30It is time for us to receive some of that investment back, is it not?
04:38With that, I leave you with this
04:41If we're going to be moving forward in this space of DEI
04:44We have to broaden it beyond the scope of human resources
04:47We have to start looking at diversity, equity, and inclusion
04:51In a broader sense, through inclusive innovation
04:54And that can be done by implementing it in our research and development
04:58In our strategy, in our creative teams, in our marketing
05:02On a consistent and regular basis
05:04Not only when it's time for an annual report
05:07And the space of tech in itself has so many young, amazing entrepreneurs
05:12Specifically in the continent of Africa
05:14And there's a lot of opportunity to be able to reach and realize that call to action
05:19We need to go from DEI 1.0 to DEI 2.0
05:24And globalize our thinking about how we leverage it
