Students at the new Health and Care Academy in Cramlington are set to become the first nursing graduates. The programme offers career routes for local hospital staff into qualified healthcare roles.

00:02The first nursing students are preparing to graduate from a health and care academy at
00:07Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital in Crownlington. The facility opened last year
00:12in partnership with the University of Sunderland to help retain staff by improving local career
00:18pathways into nursing, midwifery and other roles. Around 150 hospital employees are studying for
00:24degrees or apprenticeships at the academy which is open only to current trust staff.
00:30Former estate agent Laura Hurst is among those set to graduate as a nurse. Trust leaders say the
00:35program supports training and aims to strengthen workforce supply across Northumberland and North
00:41Tyneside Health Services.
