00:04We really tried hard to keep to the core things of God of War, of start off the game for
00:09Sons of Sparta, killing a Cyclops, ripping his eye out, you know, we really want to make
00:12it feel like right at home for the fans, like right at the very start of the game.
00:20God of War, to this point, has lived in the 3D space, so bringing that experience, that
00:25combat, that engaging, fluid movement into a 2D space, took a lot of work and planning,
00:32but Mega Cat brought that plan to us from the get-go.
00:36One of the considerations that we had when translating a 3D action series into 2D was
00:40how the combat would flow smoothly, because you're taking something from a 3D plane and
00:45then limiting it to just 2D, like two planes.
00:49Some of the animations are taken directly from legacy God of War games, and we have developed
00:54a special tool to essentially, like, take the animations from those and then convert
00:58them to 2D sprite sheets.
01:00We send it off to our pixel team to essentially draw over with pixels to create those animations.
01:05Players will definitely see some of the old classics, like Wraiths, Minotaurs, Gorgons.
01:13If you've ever seen any of these creatures from the Legacy God of War games, you'll get to
01:18see them in this new, reimagined way.
01:24We're going to bring in a lot of new enemies to the game, too, but still kind of keep things
01:27to that classic Greek feel to it all.
01:29So one of my personal favorites we brought in was the Lampides enemy.
01:32It's a three-bodied woman that's kind of floating on the spiral thing that shoots out a fire at
01:38the player.
01:38The God of War franchise has always been known for its larger-than-life boss battles against
01:43Greek monsters from myth and lore, and we've been able to create some lost legends that
01:49people may not be familiar with and bring them to life in ways that Pixar's never been
01:54done before.
01:57The most important things to keep from God of War for this game has been making sure that
02:02Kratos is fun to play, that Kratos feels cool to move around and has great visuals accompanying
02:10with each attack that hits hard, hits fast, and is fun.
02:14Kratos' base kit in Sons of Sparta is all about a Spartan training.
02:18It's all about the Spartan weapons, the spear and shield, and how he uses those in combat.
02:23Throughout the game, though, you begin to start attaching things to your spear and start attaching
02:29things to your shield, then you start to discover that there's these magical elements.
02:34Animation is very important to having satisfying combat.
02:38I think really selling the blow of an axe, seeing that spear go through the enemy, the feeling
02:43of the combat, and really feeling like Kratos.
02:49The system that I love the most about the game is definitely the sub-weapon system and
02:55how it is tied to the gods and how it's incorporated into the combat system is very much my favorite
03:01thing.
03:01Through each Olympian gift, not only are you unlocking a range of abilities augmented by
03:06the gift from the perspective Olympian god, but you're also using it to your advantage to
03:11bolster your strength to defeat these monsters in a just absolutely stunning way.
03:19Between all these old enemies and these new enemies and these themes of the game of this
03:24coming of age, we have a wide variety of things for you to fight and kill and challenge you.
03:29Don't be afraid to use all of your weapons to just mess with the world.
03:32There's a lot of interactable things.
03:34If you think something looks suspicious, just give it a shot.
03:37Might be something interesting.
03:39Expect a lot of hidden boss fights that you might not think to look for.
03:44Sons of Sparta has it all for you.
03:46We have everything you'd expect as far as exploration and combat, but now it's attached
03:50to this unbelievable IP and this story element.
03:53If you're new to the God of War series, this is a prequel.
03:56This is where it all starts, so it's the perfect entry point.
03:59Everything you love about the God of War experience is here in this game.
04:02That's a lot to do with Mega Cat taking all of those main points to heart.
04:07Is there incredible combat?
04:09Yes.
04:09Is the narrative strong throughout and makes you feel something?
04:13Yes.
04:13And finally, is the world around you one that you can get lost in?
04:18Yes.
04:19It is a God of War game through and through and one you are going to love.
