00:06Doody
00:06Doody
00:07Do you know the meaning of the word, Clivey?
00:11I think so
00:12Well, let me tell you a story
00:14Something that happened to me
00:17Many seasons, many years ago
00:34Cyclops battered us, but our shields held firm
00:38Spartans!
00:39When we were deciding when and where to have this story take place
00:42It was important to us to pick a very pivotal time in Kratos' life
00:46One that we haven't seen before
00:49God of War, Sons of Sparta takes place in Kratos' early days
00:53He's a 13-year-old kid
00:55And it's a story of he and his brother Deimos
00:57Making their way in the Spartan Egoge
01:00The Egoge was a brutal place
01:02It was a state-sponsored school that taught physical education
01:07As well as mental fortitude
01:10They were deprived of food
01:12The conditions were harsh
01:13They were always training
01:15And it wasn't just about psychological conditioning
01:18It was also about ideological indoctrination
01:20Before there was this angry, vengeful Kratos
01:24There was a young boy
01:27And this is what we're focusing on in this game
01:30This young version of Kratos is very different than the Kratos that I think a lot of players know
01:35But what was important to us was that you can see within him the future Kratos'
01:40Both the Spartan Kratos and the Norse era of Kratos
01:46Longtime God of War fans
01:47The biggest thing that people are going to just be blown away by is the return of T.C. Carson
01:53to the character of Kratos
01:54I have lived as a warrior
01:56I have died as a god
02:00Having suffered the ultimate sacrifice
02:04Daddy?
02:05I really had no idea
02:07I mean I knew people really enjoyed the game
02:09But I didn't understand what the character meant to people
02:14It's still a lot for me to be honest
02:16I have people young and old coming up to me telling me what the game meant to them
02:21How the rage that he felt they felt and they were able to channel that into the game
02:27So it's a very humbling experience, all of it
02:30Mega Cat really embraced the idea of going to this era of God of War
02:35That players can learn a little bit more about Kratos before everything bad happened in his life
02:42It was interesting to be introduced to a character at a very pivotal, dramatic moment in his life
02:49So it's an opportunity I have as an actor to go back and actually create who he was before the
02:56tragedy
02:57Even though the characters are made of pixels and hand-drawn on screen
03:01It doesn't mean you can't tell emotional stories
03:03We don't do it in ways where you're sitting through long cutscenes or anything like that
03:07Because that would be completely wrong for this style of game
03:10But we're really bringing the mentality that we attach to the God of War games we've made over the last
03:15decade
03:16We're bringing to this genre
03:19We definitely factored in T.C.'s portrayal of Kratos
03:23But because of the specifics of the story
03:25We were able to show a kind of a different side of him
03:28This is him being the family man between wars
03:31And obviously he's gonna speak to his daughter very differently than when he's a vengeful God later in the series
03:38Mother send you to punish me
03:40You've said ugly things
03:43They were true
03:44Yet still ugly
03:46So he's really trying to play mediator and peacekeeper but teach her as well
03:52And he's teaching her through stories of his past
03:56Well done brother
03:57Your tactics are improving
04:00Playing as a younger Kratos in Sons of Sparta is interesting because this is pre-God powers
04:06But he does have a different relationship with the gods because of that
04:10He has this sort of devout faith that comes up time and time again
04:14And it also informs his relationship with Deimos
04:17How do we know that's a gift for us?
04:21What else is in here?
04:23Look around
04:23Deimos' dynamic with Kratos is an interesting one here
04:27Deimos, because things have always come easy to him
04:30Kratos feels like he doesn't apply himself
04:33Kratos wants to instill in him a greater sense of purpose and a greater sense of duty
04:39Deimos lacks discipline, Kratos
04:41You know he does
04:43He's looking to you for guidance but you don't give it
04:45Kratos does everything by the book
04:47He sees everything in black and white
04:49Whereas Deimos kind of sees more gray
04:51Tries to color outside the lines
04:53What if I didn't stay in the army?
04:56What if I wanted to fish?
04:57Or make music?
04:58Then you would be a fool
05:00But I think he is a person who helps to hit at the emotional core a little bit more
05:07And push Kratos out of his comfort zone
05:11We convey the love that the brothers have with each other
05:14They might fight with each other but they still really care
05:17And they would never let each other down
05:19Let me help you
05:20I don't need your help
05:22Yes you do
05:23Throughout the course of this story
05:24Kratos is going to learn to question his assumptions
05:27He's going to learn some emotional intelligence
05:31And begin to understand the complexities of loyalty and duty
05:36A Spartan warrior never lets his back hit the ground
05:40Even in death a Spartan stands tall for battle
05:43You are a Spartan are you not?
05:47Yes Kratos
05:48As an actor a big question that you ask yourself is like
05:51Oh what's a character that you would like to revisit
05:53And kind of follow that story?
05:55So I recognize how lucky I am
05:56When I got the call to reprise the role of young Kratos
05:58And in this game there's just this journey of Kratos believing that he knows the way
06:04And he's doing everything right
06:05Until he has a face that maybe he's not as sure as he once thought he was
06:09You know I do listen to you
06:11Uh huh
06:13Sometimes I listen but I don't hear
06:16For that I'm sorry
06:17And through the journey of this game they both learn from each other
06:20I think Kratos learns how to not take everything so seriously
06:24And learn that there is more to the world than the agoge
06:29Well that was by far the weirdest thing we've ever fought
06:33And I think Deimos learns that it's okay to be a little more focused and a little more disciplined
06:39What drew us to this story was that it was a chance to revisit a Kratos that we've never seen
06:44before
06:45But also sort of look into the nooks and crannies of Greek mythology that we haven't explored before in the
06:51other games
06:52We also get to really surprise people I think
06:54They're gonna be creatures that they've fought before
06:56But they're gonna get to fight them in a totally different way
06:58A totally different genre
07:00A totally different style of game
07:02One of the interesting things about video games is that we get one more character in the narrative than anyone
07:07else does
07:08And that's the player
07:08And so it's very important to make sure the player is seeing the world through the character's eyes
07:13And in a 2D game like this it's more important than ever to do that
07:16U.A. sees the story come together from grey box and blank backgrounds
07:21And then as the characters get added and the art gets added
07:24And then you get the cinematics and the VO
07:27It's incredible watching these really talented artists push God of War into really cool areas that haven't been seen before
07:35You want your gameplay to feel native to the world
07:38But you want the world to also feel native to your gameplay and your storytelling especially
07:42And I think we really hit that gap nicely with the Sons of Sparta
07:45You see Kratos exploring the world of Laconia in a way that players haven't been able to see before
07:49And you don't see him as the revenge clashing against the gods fueled men
07:54You see him embracing the gifts of the Olympian gods
07:57That really guides him to becoming stronger to becoming Kratos
08:02Barracks! Now! No shortcuts!
08:05What I'm hoping for when it comes to God of War Sons of Sparta
08:08Is that fans of the genre are gonna get to play this title
08:11And really get affected by a deeply emotional story
08:14It's interesting to know what we know about this story
08:17And with God of War Sons of Sparta you get to see kind of glimpses of how Kratos gets to
08:23where he eventually gets to
08:24Anger just doesn't happen
08:26Things happen to make those things happen
08:29Kratos was not like that
08:30Before this thing this tragedy happened to him
08:34And in order to understand the anger you have to understand the love
08:37And I think you'll get that from his stories
08:41And his interactions with Calliope
08:59I didn't feel that when he or about P.O.P..
09:00And B.P...
09:00Even more photos of my life
09:00What IevI I don't know
09:00I saw my father
09:00It was a woman who passed away
09:01I Kinasy
