00:00My ex wanted me to try that kind of thing, couples therapy.
00:03Not my cup of tea.
00:05You don't think it could be good for a relationship?
00:07Opening up more and sharing with each other?
00:11Nah.
00:12Ah, crime scene.
00:16Inspector, um, I don't think you should wear that to the crime scene.
00:19Why not?
00:20Because it's got I heart St. Marie on the front of it.
00:27Hmm?
00:28Still haven't gotten your clothes back then.
00:31I must have left 50 messages for Solomon.
00:33This is the only shirt he didn't take.
00:35But I've got a mate from the Met to call in a favour,
00:38and I've got him to triangulate his phone for me.
00:40Yeah, that's a very good use of their resources.
00:43Hey, listen.
00:44He stole from me, and that is a crime.
00:48Inspector, I just think you should take the hat off.
00:51Yeah, all right.
01:01The victim is Kira Mayhew, 42 years old, fully qualified clinical therapist.
01:08Ran a couple's retreat here.
01:09Cars of death looks like a drowning.
01:12Went for a swim at 7 o'clock yesterday evening,
01:14and at 9 o'clock, two fishermen came across a body about 100 metres out,
01:19directly opposite this spot.
01:21They watched over the body until the paramedics arrived.
01:24Who else was here last night?
01:26About six people in total, four residents, two staff,
01:30the chef and the waitress.
01:31There's some bruising around her neck and shoulders.
01:33Looks like finger marks.
01:35Paramedics say they're recent,
01:36more likely from someone forcing her down under the water.
01:40They reckon it's murder.
01:41That's why they called us.
01:43So what?
01:44She swam out to sea, and somebody was with her and did this.
01:47Or maybe somebody was waiting for her out there on a boat.
01:50Inspector, what would you say if I told you
01:52I just found a bingo ball at the crime scene?
01:56I'd say, have you actually found a bingo ball at the crime scene?
01:59And I would say yes.
02:01Yes, I did find a bingo ball at the crime scene.
02:0413.
02:06I'm looking for some.
02:08I mean, it probably doesn't have much to do
02:11with Kira May, who's murdered, all right?
02:13We don't know yet.
02:15Let's bag it.
02:16Oh, OK.
02:17The bingo ball's officially evidenced now.
02:19Bag in the bingo ball.
02:20All right.
02:21Sergeant Fletcher, you talk to the staff.
02:24Officer Rose, see if there's any security cameras in the place.
02:27And DS Thomas, let's talk to the guests.
02:30Oh.
02:32I'll keep hold of that.
02:37I'm sorry, did you just say murder?
02:39What, I thought it was an accident.
02:40Well, it wasn't.
02:41So we need to ask you where you all were
02:43between the hours of seven and nine last night.
02:45Are you saying we're suspects?
02:46When did you last see Kira Mayhew?
02:49Before dinner, we were having some aperitifs
02:51and she came and told us to have a nice night.
02:53Enjoy your evening.
02:57What time was that?
02:58Just before seven.
02:59She went for a swim and didn't see her again until she was...
03:03..was, um...
03:05Dead.
03:08Just say it.
03:11And was that a regular thing, her going for a swim at that time?
03:15Seemed to be, like, most evenings.
03:17Kira said it was her own therapy.
03:19Getting into the sea after a long day,
03:21she found it, uh, restorative.
03:23And during the two hours between you seeing her
03:26and her body being found, you, uh...
03:29We were all together having dinner.
03:34Look, it wasn't one of us, OK?
03:36Nobody told us that we were going to be grilled like this.
03:39None of us have even been to bed.
03:41And I took a sleeping pill.
03:46Don't apologise for me, Alistair.
03:47You know I hate it when you do that.
03:49Sorry, dear.
03:50And don't call me dear, either.
03:51No, of course not. Sorry. For God.
03:55OK.
03:56Well, if you think of anything, let us know.
04:02God help us.
04:09I spoke with the staff who can alibi each other
04:12for the time of the murder.
04:13They were preparing dinner between seven and nine.
04:17You think you're listening?
04:18I'm listening.
04:20Just checking, sir.
04:20What did they say about the victim?
04:22Well, that she was a decent boss.
04:24Always paid them on time.
04:26Was friendly.
04:27Any idea you'd want to harm her?
04:28No.
04:29They reckon she didn't really know anyone here.
04:31Never saw her go out much.
04:32Kept herself to herself.
04:34I checked her phone.
04:36All her texts and all her emails.
04:38Work-related.
04:39Apart from her mum back in England.
04:41How's she doing?
04:42Oh, I'm not great.
04:44We said we'd speak tomorrow when she might be a little bit calmer.
04:47I found this.
04:50Date and time is yesterday.
04:545.52 in the afternoon.
04:57That's just over an hour before her swim.
05:06It's the weekend now, but Monday will be a big day.
05:10I have exciting plans, and I think that there could be a real breakthrough.
05:20My instinct on this is that a lie is being told.
05:25If I can draw out the truth, the fallout would be truly devastating.
05:34And only a couple of hours later, she's been murdered.
05:38You're thinking one of the guests here did it?
05:41I'm thinking maybe one of them did.
05:45On one hand, all the four guests were having dinner together at the time of Kira Mayhew's murder.
05:52Now look, there are only two cameras in the resort.
05:54Just before 7 o'clock, Kira Mayhew goes for a swim.
05:58But on the other hand, all the guests leave the table once during the evening.
06:02So, in theory, it could have been any one of them.
06:06All right, um...
06:07Now here.
06:08At 18 minutes past 7, Mr. Hartnell goes to his bedroom to get his glasses.
06:14And in here, 7.46, Stacey Wabba goes to the bathroom to check her make-up.
06:20And at 8.03, Mrs. Hartnell goes to grab her shawl.
06:24And after that, at 8.30, Luke Wabba goes to his bedroom to get a bottle of rum.
06:30So, each of them had opportunity to kill the victim during the dinner?
06:35Except, on the other hand, no one leaves the table for more than two to three minutes.
06:41And they all returned dry as a bone.
06:44Okay, so how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table,
06:47run down to the beach, get themselves somehow out to see 100 meters,
06:53drown Kira Mayhew...
06:54then come all the way back, dry off, before returning to the table in less than a few minutes.
07:01Well, that's just not possible.
07:15All right, Sebastian, I'll read the victim's notebook.
07:19You make us start listening to these tapes.
07:21Focus on the ones recorded since the four suspects arrived.
07:25Oh, these tapes are teeny-tiny.
07:28Look, they make me look like a giant.
07:31Says the giants.
07:32Hmm.
07:33So, printed the victim's schedule the day of her murder.
07:37Trust exercises in the morning.
07:39Sounds fun.
07:40Lunch, followed by one-to-one sessions in the afternoon with Stacey Warbert,
07:45then Alistair Hartnell.
07:46Inspector, I came to check in on the murder case.
07:51The minister gets nervous when one of our resorts is hit by a crime.
07:55I'd like to reassure her it's in hand.
07:59Yes, sir.
08:00We're currently working on the basis that one of the four residents did it.
08:04We just need to work out which one it was and how they did it.
08:08And why.
08:10So, pretty much everything.
08:15You look smart.
08:16Sir?
08:17Going somewhere nice?
08:19Yacht Club.
08:20Lobster night.
08:21Hmm?
08:25Lobster night, eh?
08:26That's why you're looking so snappy.
08:31You know, snappy.
08:33Like, claws.
08:35No, no, no.
08:35Lobster claws.
08:36I get the joke, Inspector.
08:38I just didn't find it very funny.
08:43Enjoy your evenings?
08:45You too, sir.
08:46Snappy.
08:46Like claws, you know.
08:50No, I need to get this.
08:54Hello, mate.
08:57Excuse me, Commissioner.
09:02Anton Bousset.
09:04How long has it been since we last...
09:06Crossed paths?
09:07Or were you going to say, crossed swords?
09:10I hadn't decided before you caught me off.
09:15How can I help you, Mr. Bousset?
09:17Anton, please.
09:19We're going to publish an article about you, Commissioner.
09:22And I want to give you the right to respond.
09:25Here is a draft copy of the piece.
09:31Let me know when you're ready to talk.
09:38Inspector, that was your contact at the Met, wasn't it?
09:41You know where Solomon is?
09:42Palm Beach Hotel.
09:43I'm coming with you.
09:45I'm coming with you.
10:13Here's what fun night, right?
10:19Solomon.
10:20Mervin!
10:21Oh!
10:23Nancy's seeing you here, man.
10:24We're just talking about you.
10:26Come, come, come, come, come, come.
10:27Meet Tashel and Tashana.
10:31This is my brother, would you believe?
10:33Murphy!
10:34We're half-brothers.
10:34Where's my stuff?
10:36You stole from me and I want my things back.
10:38I never stole anything.
10:40He gets confused sometimes.
10:41Had a bump to his head a few years back.
10:43Solomon!
10:44I'm not joking around.
10:46You get me my things now, or I arrest you.
10:49It's your choice.
10:51Okay, man.
10:52I understand.
10:53Let me just...
11:01Oh, God!
11:03Sir, are you okay?
11:04I'm fine!
11:05Come and get him!
11:06Oh!
11:07Oh!
11:08Oh!
11:11Oh!
11:30Now you can have assaulting the police officers to theft in breaking and entering!
11:33Mervin!
11:34My brother, please don't do this to me.
11:37I'm sorry, all right?
11:38I just...
11:40I really needed the money.
11:42I'm in debt.
11:43And it's to the kind of person you don't much want to be in debt to.
11:48I'm sorry I let you down.
11:50I just...
11:52I didn't know what else to do.
11:55I just need my stuff back, Sol.
11:5824 hours.
12:00Otherwise, I'm pressing charges.
12:02Do you understand?
12:04I appreciate it, Mark.
12:20So, we dusted the bingo ball for prints, sir, like you requested, but got nothing from it.
12:26Oh.
12:27Oh, well.
12:27Worth a try, eh?
12:30Right.
12:31What else we got?
12:31We've done background on both couples.
12:35The Hartnells live in Islington in London.
12:38He's a barrister.
12:40She runs a luxury interior design business.
12:42Ah, very Islington.
12:44They did a brief spell of grief counselling with another therapist shortly after their daughter died.
12:50She was only 17.
12:52Seems their marriage has been struggling ever since.
12:56What about the Warbur's?
12:58Also live in London.
12:59Luke works in finance, earns well.
13:02Has been married to Stacey for three years.
13:04I've been reading the victim's notes on both couples.
13:07She records a lot after her sessions with them, especially on the dictaphone.
13:12But it's okay.
13:14Officer Rose is working on it.
13:16Yes.
13:17Yes, I am.
13:18I am totally on top of it.
13:20So don't you worry, inspector.
13:22It seems the Warbur's came out here because they've been having intimacy issues.
13:29It's been 18 months since they were last intimate with each other.
13:34When you say intimate, you mean intimate?
13:37Yes.
13:38And according to the notes, the issue is entirely on Luke's side.
13:42And in one of their last sessions, Miss Mayhew got him to admit why he was like this.
13:48Go on.
13:4918 months ago, Luke was unfaithful.
13:52He had a one-night thing.
13:54Naughty, naughty boy.
13:56Mm-hmm.
13:57With him wife's sister.
13:59Chacha.
14:00Oh, sorry, what?
14:02Mm-hmm.
14:02And ever since, he's been wracked with guilt and shame.
14:05Why?
14:06He's been a busy, busy man.
14:07I mean, that explains why he can't do the business.
14:11Mm-hmm.
14:12Now, Kira told him that he needs to confront it, that he can't ignore it anymore.
14:19She was suggesting he tell Stacey.
14:21I think she knew their marriage couldn't move forward based on a betrayal like that.
14:26Is that what Kira Mayhew was referring to when she said...
14:31My instinct on this is that a lie is being told.
14:35So Luke killed her to silence her?
14:39Stop the truth coming out?
14:44It's a cliche, isn't it?
14:47Saying something's the biggest mistake of your life.
14:49How did it happen?
14:50Oh, I don't know.
14:52I just...
14:54People flirt, you know?
14:56With Stacey, we go for a night out and the blokes swarm in.
15:01I mean, you've seen her.
15:02She's gorgeous.
15:02She could have anyone if she wanted.
15:05And what happened with me and Shell, her sister, it felt like I was...
15:10Like I was proving myself that I've still got it too, you know?
15:14But something in you must have wanted to come clean.
15:17Because you admitted it to Kira Mayhew.
15:19I thought she'd help.
15:21In what way?
15:22Absolve me of the guilt if I opened up?
15:25I think that's a priest you're after.
15:27But all she said was that the marriage couldn't survive if it was built on a betrayal like that.
15:33She was normally so calm and measured, but with that...
15:38It really bothered her.
15:40Like she wasn't going to let it go.
15:43And that's what worried you.
15:45Panicked you that she would tell Stacey herself.
15:47And then you'd lose your gorgeous wife completely.
15:50But you weren't going to let that happen.
15:52And that is why you murdered Kira Mayhew.
15:54No.
15:55No.
15:56That's why I've come to you.
15:57Because I know what it looks like.
16:00But it wasn't me who killed her.
16:02I swear to you.
16:06All right.
16:09That's all for now.
16:23What a moron.
16:25It's her.
16:30Inspector.
16:32Post-mortem's in.
16:34Confirms what we thought.
16:35Water in the victim's lungs.
16:37Confirms she died due to drowning.
16:39Finger marks on her shoulders and neck suggest she was forced under the water.
16:45But how did the killer manage to do it?
16:47To leave from the dinner table here, run down to the beach, drown Kira, then get back to the dinner
16:54table, seemingly with not a spot of water on them.
16:57And in just a few minutes.
16:59And how does this figure into all of this?
17:02Why was it at our crime scene?
17:03You do know things get washed up on beaches all the time.
17:08Yeah.
17:09But a bingo ball?
17:12Officer Rose.
17:15Officer Rose.
17:19Officer Rose.
17:20Huh?
17:21Have you made any progress with the tapes yet?
17:24No progress as such.
17:25But I assure you, when I get something, you'll be the first to know.
17:29Inspector, I just spoke with the victim's mum, Sandra.
17:32Go on.
17:33To this day, her mum doesn't know why Kira left the UK.
17:37She didn't just want a change of scene?
17:39No, it was totally out of the blue.
17:42Overnight, Kira left her fiancé, announced that she was setting up a practice abroad, never even kept in touch with
17:48any of her friends.
17:49So it got me thinking, could Kira Mayhew's murder be connected to something that happened back in the UK?
17:56Hmm.
18:00Also, sir, Kira's mum spoke with her just before that swim, while she was heading down to the beach.
18:10And she's...
18:12Officer Rose, see what's going on out there, will you?
18:19Anyway, she said Kira seemed distracted, distant, even.
18:25Her mum said it was like she wasn't even present.
18:28Inspector, some big-headed brother in a sports car is asking for you.
18:43So, you got my stuff then?
18:45Not in a physical sense, no.
18:47What's that supposed to mean?
18:48Been a busy day.
18:50Bit of business here, bit of business there.
18:52Always somewhere I got to be in Salomon land.
18:57But, I know who has your thing, so...
19:02Jump in, and let's go get them.
19:12So, this is where all my stuff is?
19:15Nice.
19:16It's Myrtle Chastanet's place.
19:18You ever come across her?
19:20No.
19:21Funnily enough.
19:22She's the kind of person you go to if you have some things to sell it, maybe other people, maybe
19:26less inclined to...
19:26So, she fenced your stolen goods?
19:28It's not for me to put a label on what...
19:30So, that's a yes.
19:32We'll have you reunited with your stuff in no time.
19:34She's a very amenable woman.
19:38Who is it?
19:39Myrtle?
19:40It's Salomon Clark, remember me?
19:43Got my brother here with me.
19:45It was his stuff I sold you, and...
19:48We were wondering if we could get it back.
19:50No!
19:51No, clear up!
19:53Myrtle!
19:54Honey!
19:54Don't you honey me, monster!
19:56She's a lot more vexed than I remember her being before.
19:58Myrtle, I'm going to cut to the chase.
20:01You are currently in possession of items illegally taken from my home.
20:07Myrtle!
20:11Think she's thinking about it.
20:17What the...
20:19What's she do that for?
20:21What is this stuff?
20:24It's in my eyes!
20:25It's burning!
20:26Hot sauce.
20:27Gah!
20:28Why'd she pull hot sauce over me?
20:30I don't know, man.
20:31Ah!
20:31But she got to admit.
20:33Gah!
20:33Kind of funny.
20:34Gah!
20:37Gah!
20:37No, tell me how you're playing at!
20:39How much hot sauce has she got?
20:40Why's she got so much of it?
20:42I think it's some bullet teeth that got going on!
20:43And if there's no central package, then I will set Tiberius on you!
20:47Who's Tiberius?
20:50Feels like we come at a bad time.
20:52Maybe we should come back another day!
20:57They're threatening to publish this article.
21:02Doesn't hold back, does it?
21:04After everything I've done for this island, this is the thanks I receive.
21:11And the fact that Anton Bucetti sharpened the knives was of no surprise to me.
21:18You and he have history?
21:21Because I have no respect for his gossip-mongering rag.
21:25This isn't journalism.
21:27This is attention-rabbing rhetoric.
21:33What?
21:37This island petitioned to get you your job back.
21:41And you walked away without any explanation, like you didn't care.
21:46And now, months later, you come back as if nothing happened.
21:51I do care.
21:53You know that.
21:55But others don't.
21:57All they know is that their commissioner of police abandoned them.
22:04It's up to you to change their minds.
22:08Oh, my eyes won't stop singing, man.
22:10Tell me about it.
22:12The sun should go down into my trousers.
22:16I'm telling you, Mervyn, there's hot sauce in places.
22:19Hot sauce is not supposed to go, Mervyn, man.
22:29That's some mighty fiery sauce Mervyn's been cooking up.
22:34I mean, look at us.
22:35We're covered in the stuff, like a couple of chicken wings.
22:54You're a liability soul.
22:59You know that.
23:01My life has been turned upside down since you came into it.
23:05Yeah, I kind of have that effect.
23:10I can't live like that, man.
23:14I'm a detective inspector.
23:17Do you understand that?
23:20And I need my clothes back.
23:23And I need to not be chasing around after you.
23:29This is not how I...
23:38I'm sorry, Mervyn.
23:48You know, I need my clothes back.
23:50Youkhb.
23:59Youkhb.
24:17Keep going.
24:19Oh, hey, Sarge.
24:21Yeah, all right there. You same boat?
24:23Yeah, just, um...
24:24What are you doing here?
24:26Been having drinks with a friend from Jamaica.
24:28I was just on my way home when I see the lights are on.
24:31And I realise, Officer Rose is working late.
24:35Why is Officer Rose working late? I'm asking myself.
24:38Yeah, just, um...
24:41Going through these tapes.
24:43Still.
24:45Still on these tapes.
24:49And which one you're on now, then?
24:51Tape...
24:51Tape number two.
24:54Two? Tape two? Is that all?
24:57I'm sorry, Sarge. It's just every time I start listening,
25:01my mind just wanders somewhere else.
25:03Then I start thinking about other things.
25:05So then I rewind the tape to the beginning,
25:08but then the same thing happens all over again.
25:10It's...
25:15It's just...
25:16my brain, you know?
25:18It can get a bit fidgety sometimes.
25:21Like, I know what I'm meant to be doing,
25:23and I intentionally try to do it.
25:26But my mind just does its own a thing.
25:31I just want to finish this.
25:44You sure, Sarge?
25:47I know.
25:47If it was me here needing assistance,
25:50you would do exactly the same thing, right?
25:56No.
25:58I'm just joking.
25:59Of course I would.
26:00No question.
26:02So there you go then.
26:05All right.
26:06Let's do this thing.
26:10My boy.
26:14So, you have a good time with your friend?
26:16Oh, it was cool, you know.
26:18Yeah?
26:18Nice to hear all the gossip going on back in Kingston.
26:23You know, you never did tell me why you left Jamaica.
26:33I left because of a guy I was seeing.
26:39Things got complicated between us.
26:42And, um...
26:46I just realized the best thing that I could do
26:50was just to turn and walk away.
26:53Mm-hmm.
26:57Mm-hmm.
26:59Mm-hmm.
27:13Mm-hmm.
27:34Good morning, Isaac.
27:36Good morning.
27:37Good morning, Clarence.
27:39Good morning.
27:40Ah.
27:40How was the catch this morning?
27:42So soon.
27:43So soon?
27:44Let me look.
27:45Let me look.
27:45Let me see.
27:46OK.
27:47I want that one there.
27:49Not a big one.
27:53Good morning, Sash.
27:55Morning.
27:56Morning.
27:59Inspector.
28:01I'm here.
28:03We got your message.
28:13So, I was doing a bit of nosing around the old place and, er, bingo.
28:17Literally.
28:18Oh, so that's where it came from.
28:19Hmm.
28:20Yeah.
28:20Apparently this place used to be a resort for the over-sixties.
28:23So this must have been here since then.
28:25OK.
28:26So, how do you explain one of those bingo balls ending up on the same beach as our crime scene?
28:32Well, it didn't magic itself there, did it?
28:35Somebody must have taken it from this.
28:37So we're going to have to dust it for prints.
28:39I could do that for you, sir.
28:41Oh.
28:41Nice one.
28:44How about you two?
28:45You got something?
28:46So, the tapes Cara Mayhew recorded over the last week, there was ten hours of it.
28:51And throughout it all, when she talks about Alistair and Margot Hartnell, she doesn't once mention they lost their daughter.
28:58She was only 17.
29:00Seems their marriage has been struggling ever since.
29:05Which was kind of odd, right?
29:08So we did some digging.
29:09Their daughter Charlotte was killed in a car accident.
29:13A hit and run.
29:14But the person who did it was never found.
29:16All that was known was that it was a female driver.
29:20Only, the hit and run happened outside the family home in Islington.
29:25Cara Mayhew's practice was just over a mile away.
29:29Also, it happened on the 1st of April 2021.
29:32And Cara Mayhew, she moved over here six weeks later.
29:36Is it possible that that's what it was?
29:40Cara was behind a car accident?
29:45That's good work.
29:46A pair of you.
29:46Well done.
29:48You go and get that dusted and we're going to talk to the Hartnells.
29:57We didn't come here because we suspected Cara Mayhew was a woman who killed our daughter.
30:02We came in a last ditch attempt to save our marriage.
30:05Truly, we did.
30:07Then why did you never mention to Miss Mayhew the fact that you lost your daughter?
30:11By your own admission, your relationship problem started five years ago.
30:16At the same time.
30:19We didn't talk about it with her.
30:22Because we never talk about it.
30:23It's easier if we don't.
30:25Margot tries, bless her.
30:27Or used to, you know, to try to get me to open up.
30:30But I just can't bear it.
30:36I don't want to lose her.
30:37I want to fix our marriage.
30:39But I can't if I have to churn all that up again.
30:45I'm just not strong enough.
30:46It's all right, my love.
30:59If the Hartnells didn't come here for revenge, then the question still remains.
31:03Why did Cara Mayhew leave London five years ago?
31:05What happened to make her suddenly up sticks and move to the other side of the world?
31:09Please give me a call when you get this.
31:11Just...
31:11Just let me know you're okay.
31:18It's her.
31:19It's Stacy.
31:20I think she's had a meltdown.
31:22I haven't seen her since yesterday.
31:25I think she knew.
31:26I think Cara told her about me and her sister.
31:31Mishnah?
31:32Everything all right?
31:35We'll look into it.
31:50I saw she was upset.
31:52Crying.
31:53So, I went over.
31:55As soon as she said she was staying at the comp's retreat, I called you.
32:00Couldn't get much from her.
32:02Except...
32:03She didn't want me to phone her husband.
32:06Yeah.
32:07Well, that's hardly surprising.
32:10Uh, sir.
32:13Um...
32:13Maybe I should take this one?
32:28Everyone knows, don't they?
32:30Only us.
32:31May I?
32:38Can you tell me when you found out, Mrs. Warbur?
32:44Thursday night.
32:46I went to get some air on the beach and Kira was there.
32:49She'd been drinking.
32:51I've not seen it like that.
32:53She'd always been so...
32:54composed.
32:55She could hardly stand up, so...
32:57I helped her back to her bungalow.
32:59She was sort of rambling.
33:02Talking about some guy who had betrayed her back in England before she moved here.
33:06I'd been cheating on her.
33:08I got her home and put her on the couch.
33:11And she looked me in the eyes and spoke to me.
33:15Stacey.
33:15Like it really mattered.
33:16Don't be like me.
33:19Don't, Stacey.
33:20There was just something in the way she'd said it.
33:23Then I knew she'd had a one-to-one session with Luke that day and maybe...
33:26whatever he'd said had, like...
33:28triggered her.
33:30Reminded her of her own betrayal.
33:32That's why she was drunk.
33:35So when she was asleep, I saw her notebook.
33:42I felt sick.
33:44Couldn't even process it.
33:46Couldn't even breathe.
33:49So I just pretended I didn't know.
33:53Stacey, you've been through a lot in the last couple of days.
33:59If you were in denial, if Kira was pressing you to confront what you'd found out...
34:05No, I didn't.
34:08I admit there was all this pent up stuff inside me, but I didn't kill Kira.
34:13I swear.
34:22All right.
34:23Well, thank you for talking with me, Mr. Shaw.
34:27What did the ex-boyfriend have to say for himself?
34:29The ex-fiancee.
34:31The affair he was having had been going on for three whole years behind Kira's back when she found out.
34:37Wow. That must have flawed her.
34:39I mean, her job is to provide relationship advice.
34:42And all the time she was blind to a three-year-long deception.
34:45Explains why she suddenly upped and left for another country.
34:48And why Luke's betrayal triggered her so much.
34:51And why she had one or three over the limit.
34:54But it still doesn't explain why she was murdered three nights ago.
35:00Inspector Diaz-Thomas, I think we got something.
35:09Patrick Campbell, therapist. Consultation fee, $150.
35:15He's based in Guadalupe. Specialises in hypnotherapy.
35:20Kira called him Friday afternoon, asking for advice.
35:24He offered to share their conversation as part of our investigation.
35:28On what?
35:30She said a client of hers, Margot Hartnell, had just opened up to her.
35:34And was struggling with the memory of an event of her recent past.
35:37Because she had completely blocked it out.
35:39Which, apparently, is not uncommon for people dealing with traumatic experiences.
35:43And according to Mr. Cambo, it's a pretty unorthodox approach for Kira to resort to hypnotherapy so early.
35:49On in the process.
35:51But she was convinced it was necessary.
35:53So this forgotten memory, do we know what it's to do with?
35:57The night their daughter was killed in a hit and run five years ago.
36:01Mrs. Hartnell does not remember a thing about it.
36:05But ever since, she's been growing this feeling of guilt.
36:09You know?
36:10Like, maybe she might have done something bad that night.
36:15Wait.
36:16You don't mean...
36:19All that was known was that it was a female driver.
36:23Mrs. Hartnell wanted it all off the record.
36:26That's why there was nothing in her notes or recordings.
36:31Right, we need to talk to Mrs. Hartnell and that therapist.
36:34We need him here sharpish.
36:35Come on.
36:38Well, at first it was just guilt I felt.
36:41Our grief counsellor said it was normal as a parent to feel a sense of responsibility.
36:46Look, whatever I did five years ago, I want the truth to come out.
36:50If you think I killed Keira Mayhew because I wanted to stop that happening, you're wrong.
36:55She arranged for me to have hypnotherapy today.
36:58Well, that can still happen, Mrs. Hartnell.
37:01We've arranged for a hypnotherapist to speak with you, if you feel you're able.
37:07Inspector!
37:08If you wouldn't mind going with Sergeant Fletcher.
37:11Yeah.
37:17I guess all we can do now is wait.
37:25Ah.
37:26We're back to the bingo ball.
37:28Inspector!
37:30Just got back from dusting off the bingo ball machine for prints.
37:34Unfortunately, nothing.
37:42What's up with the inspector?
37:44Am I alright?
37:48Inspector!
37:49Everything alright, sir? You've got something?
37:53Sir, what are you doing?
37:57It's a little experiment.
38:00The bingo balls float.
38:16The bingo ball floats.
38:18Yeah.
38:20Okay, so, why take it out of the bingo ball cage thingy and bring it to the sea? To the
38:28water's edge?
38:29Was it just to see if it floats?
38:33Or, maybe it's to see where it goes?
38:41In which case...
38:42So, how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table, run down to the beach, somehow get themselves
38:48a hundred meters out to sea, drown Keira Mayhew?
38:50None of them left the table for more than two to three minutes at a time.
38:55And was that a regular thing, her going for a swim at that time?
38:59Most evenings.
39:01She said Keira seemed distracted.
39:08Of course!
39:10That's why you were there, you little beauty!
39:16Okay, I need to speak to a fisherman, or an oceanographer-ologist type of person, basically anyone who knows the
39:23currents in this bay.
39:23Yes, Thomas, I need a toxicology report done on Keira Mayhew.
39:27Officer Rose, I need you to collect some evidence from her office.
39:31But, you know who did it?
39:32I do.
39:34And I know how they managed to drown Keira Mayhew a hundred meters out of sea without even stepping a
39:40foot in the water!
39:41Come on!
39:46For those wondering why Margot Hartnell isn't here with us, it's because she's currently with a hypnotherapist, doing what she
39:53was always supposed to be doing today.
39:55Trying to recover a buried memory of what really happened five years ago, the night her daughter died.
40:03Why am I telling you this?
40:05Because Margot's therapy sessions were meant to be conducted by Keira Mayhew, until somebody tried to stop the truth from
40:13coming out.
40:14By murdering her.
40:16Mr Hartnell.
40:21Me? I did no such thing.
40:24Oh, but you did. I know you did.
40:26But how? I was at dinner when it happened. On dry bloody land.
40:30Yeah, you were. Which is why it was so clever of you.
40:33But now that I've got a better understanding of what's gone on, I believe you created a small window of
40:39opportunity in which to commit murder.
40:42But not a hundred meters out at sea.
40:45You drowned Keira Mayhew right outside your own bungalow.
40:50Because from the very start of this case, we've worked on the assumption that as Miss Mayhew's body was discovered
40:57100 meters out at sea in a straight line from where she swam, that's where she was drowned.
41:03But what if actually, when Miss Mayhew went for her evening dip, she preferred to swim along the shore rather
41:12than out from it?
41:14That would mean she'd have to swim past your bungalow farther along the beach.
41:20And that would give you opportunity to commit murder.
41:25But when? I told you I was at dinner when it happened.
41:29Yeah, we have security camera footage that shows you leaving the dinner table to get your glasses at 18 minutes
41:36past seven.
41:36I was gone, what, a couple of minutes, three minutes at the most.
41:41You're not seriously suggesting I was able to physically drown a fit and healthy woman in that time without getting
41:47soaked in water?
41:48Yeah. Sounds impossible, right?
41:52But I don't think Miss Mayhew was as fit and healthy as she might normally be.
41:56I believe you sedated her.
42:00We know that your wife uses sleeping pills.
42:04None of us been to bed.
42:05And I took a sleeping pill.
42:07And we also know that you are the last person to have a one-to-one session with Miss Mayhew
42:12that day at 5pm.
42:13One-to-one sessions in the afternoon with Stacey Warbur, then Alistair Hartnell.
42:20And while there, we believe you spiked her drink when she wasn't looking.
42:29We didn't believe Kira was drugged because the finger marks on her neck suggested she was held down by force
42:34and drowned.
42:35We're awaiting the toxicology report and results from the glass Kira drank from.
42:40And I've no doubt we'll get confirmation that there were significant traces of sleeping pills in her system.
42:47And so, while Miss Mayhew was swimming, she suddenly felt drowsy and swam ashore.
42:55When you returned to your bungalow under the pretense of getting your glasses, you ran down to the beach where
43:03Miss Mayhew was lying unconscious on the sand.
43:05And then you did two things.
43:08First, you grabbed her neck and shoulders, making sure to leave bruises so it would look like someone had strangled
43:16her and forced her under the water.
43:18Before moving her into the sea for her to be carried away, making sure that she was face down so
43:26that still unconscious her lungs would fill with water.
43:30It took less than a minute.
43:33All you had to do now was hurry back to the dinner table and leave Kira to drown and let
43:39the sea do the rest of the work for you.
43:42We checked with a local oceanologist at the university.
43:47And the current in this bay moves in a north-westerly direction, which means it would have carried Miss Mayhew's
43:55body diagonally, taking her from your bungalow here to where her body was discovered here.
44:02And with her clothes being left on the beach here, we'd all assume she swam in a straight line.
44:10Now, you had no idea where the currents would take Kira's body.
44:14So, you had to test it first, didn't you?
44:19You went and found this.
44:22And you threw it into the sea to observe which route it took, which was conveniently in a north-westerly
44:27direction, from your bungalow directly to where Kira began her nightly swim.
44:31And that's when your plan finally came together.
44:35Kira's body was found still at sea, not long after she drowned.
44:40But this ball, left overnight, ended up washing up a shawl.
44:44And that was your undoing.
44:45But why would he do this to her?
44:49Because he didn't want Kira to help his wife remember.
44:53Well, remember what?
44:54What he did.
45:02I remember, Alistair.
45:06I remember all of it.
45:09All the horror of it.
45:13You rushing in and telling me someone had hurt our little girl.
45:18And I remember the ambulance and the police and the shock and the pain.
45:28And I remember you coming in and holding me in tears shaking.
45:37Both of us heartbroken.
45:42And I remember, in that moment, the smell of alcohol on your breath.
45:53And I remember coming back inside.
45:58And seeing you.
46:06I checked the original case file, Mr. Hartnell.
46:10And the phone call to the police, in which the hit and run driver was described as female,
46:15came from an anonymous caller.
46:19That was you, wasn't it?
46:21Trying to direct suspicion away from yourself.
46:31I would have lost everything.
46:41Alistair Hartnell.
46:42I'm arresting you on suspicion of the murder of Kira Mayhew.
46:46You didn't have to say anything, but it may harm your defense if you do not mention when questioned
46:50something you later reliant in court.
47:06I never want to see you ever again.
47:24Well, well, well. Good evening to you both.
47:27Good evening.
47:28Catherine, we spoke at Marianne Edwards' charity barbecue, I think.
47:33I don't remember.
47:35I certainly enjoyed our little chat.
47:40Commissioner, can I get you a rub?
47:41That won't be necessary.
47:43This won't take that long.
47:44I think I'll have one, Catherine, if you wouldn't mind.
47:49I appreciate you giving me an advance copy of the article.
47:53Here is my written statement in response.
47:58Saying?
48:00I agree with every single word you've written.
48:07Sorry?
48:08After receiving some sage advice from my good friend here, as I say in my statement, it hurt to think
48:16that the bond I had forged with this island had been broken.
48:21But the circumstances were of my own making.
48:25So, I will be the one to fix it.
48:28And how will you do that?
48:30As of tomorrow, I will be commencing an initiative with my team.
48:34And with a little help from the island's mayor.
48:37An initiative to strengthen our relationship with the community.
48:43So, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do.
48:47Good evening.
48:52Well, he just killed my article, didn't he?
48:56With one single shot.
49:00I think he maybe just has.
49:05Enjoy your evening.
49:22Oh.
49:40Sorry, mate. That's my hat.
50:01Hey, what's up?
50:03Look.
50:05I just got home and I saw you brought all my stuff back.
50:08Oh, you know.
50:10Worked the old Solomon Clark magic.
50:13Yeah, well, I just wanted to say thank you.
50:16Did you have to give Myrtle her money back?
50:18I mean, you're not in debt still, are you?
50:20Ah, don't worry yourself.
50:21Anyway, man.
50:22Got to get the boat back to Antigua.
50:25Got some business over there that needs attendant, huh?
50:27Of course you have.
50:28I mean, there's always something going on in Solomonland, right?
50:32You said it.
50:37Um, look.
50:40What about us now?
50:43I mean, what do we do next?
50:46I don't know, man.
50:48Like you said, I am troubled.
50:51A detective doesn't need that in his life.
50:53Look, so, I didn't mean...
50:54Maybe I shouldn't have...
50:56Said Dan.
50:58No disrespect to you, bro, but...
51:01Ain't much good to me having a police officer around.
51:04Got a reputation to keep.
51:06Yeah, yeah, no, I...
51:07Totally understand.
51:11Look, man.
51:12We tried this and...
51:15Maybe it just wasn't meant to be here, no?
51:18Look after yourself, brother.
51:20Yeah, you too.
51:21Look, Solomon, I...
51:38Hey!
51:42Hey!
51:48Hey!
52:05Hello, neighbor. Quiet morning.
52:07Was.
52:09Henry Ashby moved to St. Marie ten years ago.
52:11Henry was definitely mixed up in something murky.
52:14The victim's copy of this book was missing from his bookshelf.
52:16So, where is it?
52:18I need to reassure you that this island still matters to me.
52:23Why did the detective not bother showing up?
52:26Why was your moped seen outside the victim's villa up in the hills?
52:30Did you ever catch them, Inspector? I'd sleep much better knowing you did.
52:33It wasn't me!
