North East Museums wants to bring one of only three surviving Union Flags from Trafalgar to Newcastle. The flag could become a key attraction for the region.

00:06Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The bid would bring the flag to the Discovery Museum in Newcastle.

00:19Nelson's second-in-command, born in the city in September 1748. Measuring 152 by 274 centimetres,
00:28it's hand stitched in wool with a weighted edge. Gunpowder stains and splinter tears show battle
00:35damage. An export bar allows UK institutions to buy it. North East Museums hopes a foundation
00:41will fund the £450,000 purchase.
