00:06long ago it's a story about two kings a divided kingdom and some really important choices
00:13after the great king solomon the kingdom of israel had a big problem the people weren't happy
00:19and the kingdom split into two one part the northern kingdom was called israel and the other
00:26part the southern kingdom was called judah our story starts with the new king of the northern
00:32kingdom israel his name was jeroboam god had actually promised jeroboam that he would be king
00:39and that his family would rule for a long long time but there was one very important condition
00:45jeroboam had to follow god's ways and lead the people to do the same sounds like a good deal
00:51right but jeroboam started to worry he thought if my people keep going down to the temple in jerusalem
00:58which is in the other kingdom they might start to like the other king rehoboam more than me he was
01:05afraid of losing his throne so instead of trusting god's promise he came up with his own plan he made
01:12two big shiny golden calves he set one up in a town called bethel and the other in a town
01:19called dan
01:19then he told all the people hey everyone going all the way to jerusalem is too much trouble here are
01:27your gods who brought you out of egypt you can worship them right here oh no this was a huge
01:33mistake the people had been clearly told not to make or worship any idols but many people listened
01:40to jeroboam they started bowing down to the golden calves instead of worshiping the one true god
01:46this made god very sad and disappointed jeroboam the king who was supposed to lead the people in
01:53the right direction was leading them down the wrong path meanwhile down in the southern kingdom of judah
01:59things weren't much better the king there was rehoboam solomon's son you might remember him
02:05he was the one whose harsh words helped cause the kingdom to split in the first place well
02:11rehoboam and the people of judah also started to turn away from god they built their own special
02:17places to worship other things and forgot about the amazing god who had always been with them so both
02:24kingdoms north and south were struggling with the same problem forgetting god and making bad choices
02:31back in the northern kingdom something said happened king jeroboam's son got very sick jeroboam was
02:38desperate he knew he had done wrong and he wanted to know what would happen to his son but he
02:44was also
02:45probably a little scared to face god or his prophets directly so he came up with a sneaky plan he
02:52said to
02:53his wife i have an idea put on a disguise so no one will know you're the queen go to
02:59the prophet ahijah
03:00he's the one who told me i would be king ask him what will happen to our boy jeroboam wanted
03:07to get
03:07god's help without having to admit his own mistakes he wanted the answer but he tried to hide who was
03:13asking so the queen disguised herself she put on different clothes and tried to look like a regular
03:20person not royalty she traveled to see the prophet ahijah now ahijah was very old and his eyes couldn't see
03:29well anymore jeroboam probably thought perfect he'll never recognize her but you can't hide things from
03:36god as soon as the queen's footsteps were heard at the door god spoke to ahijah god told him exactly
03:44who
03:44was coming and what to say so when she walked in the old prophet said come in wife of jeroboam
03:52why are you
03:53pretending to be someone else i have some very heavy news for you imagine how shocked the queen must have
04:00been her disguise didn't work at all ahijah then gave her a message directly from god he reminded her how
04:07god had chosen jeroboam and made him king but then came the sad part ahijah said that because jeroboam had
04:15turned away from god and led the people to worship idols god was very displeased the prophecy was very
04:22specific and very sad ahijah told her go home as soon as your feet enter your city your son will
04:30pass away what heartbreaking news for a mother to hear but the message wasn't just about their son
04:36ahijah continued explaining that because of jeroboam's choices his entire family line would not continue
04:44to be kings the promise god had made was based on obedience and jeroboam had not been obedient
04:50the prophecy also included a warning for the whole nation of israel because they followed their king
04:57into idolatry trouble and hardship would come to the kingdom they would be shaken up and eventually
05:03scattered all because they had turned their backs on the god who loved them the queen traveled home with
05:09a very heavy heart and just as the prophet had said the moment she stepped back into her city
05:15her sixth son passed away the first part of the prophecy had come true exactly as ahijah foretold this
05:23was a powerful and tragic sign of the consequences of their actions jeroboam had tried to use a disguise
05:30to get what he wanted but all it did was lead to a direct and difficult truth he had provoked
05:36god's anger
05:37with his golden calves and now he was seeing the painful results the kingdom he had tried so hard to
05:43secure through his own clever plans was now set on a path toward instability and trouble both king
05:49jeroboam in the north and king rehoboam in the south show us what can happen when leaders fail to follow
05:56god their stories are like warning signs they chose fear over faith their own plans over god's commands
06:03and idols made of gold over the living god and these choices didn't just affect them they affected
06:10everyone in their kingdoms the story of jeroboam's disguise and ahijah's prophecy is a powerful
06:16reminder that we can't hide from god he knows our hearts and our actions it also shows us that god's
06:24promises are often tied to our obedience and faith he wants what's best for us and that means following
06:30his ways even when god brings discipline the bible tells us it's like a loving parent correcting a child
06:38wanting to guide them back to the right path the downfall of these kingdoms wasn't because god gave
06:43up on them but because people repeatedly made unfaithful choices they forgot the one who had given them
06:50everything the golden calves couldn't help them and the sneaky disguises couldn't fool god only true
06:57faithfulness and turning back to god could bring real peace and security it's a serious story but it has a
07:04really important lesson for all of us even today it teaches us about the importance of making good
07:10choices listening to god and trusting him instead of our own fearful plans it's a reminder to always put
