00:01A historic homecoming for one of Tasmania's most famous exports.
00:10We remember men from the past much more than we tend to remember women.
00:14So I think it's important.
00:17Well I think it's the most wonderful thing for Tasmania, don't you think?
00:23Two statues recognising Tasmanian nightingale Amy Sherwin have been unveiled.
00:28The soprano was raised in rural Tasmania and went on to sing around the world.
00:34She died penniless in London, buried in an unmarked grave.
00:38This latest recognition aims to cement her legacy.
00:42Well Tasmanians don't know about her. I didn't when I first saw that plaque down near the park.
00:48But she's coming back now, she's firing back and everybody is going to know about her.
00:53A bronze statue will watch over Murray Street.
00:56While the $250,000 marble statue weighing 700 kilograms will stay inside.
01:02The actual image you see there or the sculpture is based on a photograph of her.
01:07And I looked at that photograph and I said that's going to look amazing in marble.
01:10The sleeves and the lace work.
01:13So that whole process though took more than a year.
01:16This marble statue will be housed here at Hadley's Orient Hotel and will be open to the public to come
01:22and admire the artwork and learn more about Amy Sherwin's life.
01:25Those involved in his creation hope it will inspire the next generation of young Tasmanians.
01:31A beloved Tasmanian home at last.
