00:00There has been criticism regarding the sales of 1936 Bowling Olympic t-shirt on the IOC official website.
00:08Could you please explain the background and the decision-making process behind offering this item for sales?
00:16And have you in fact received any criticisms or requests to suspend the sale of this item? Thank you.
00:22Yeah, I suspected someone might ask that question at some stage.
00:26There's kind of two answers to that question.
00:29One is a technical one, which is actually an important one, which I'll come on to in a minute.
00:33The first answer is, of course, we can't rewrite history.
00:36The 1936 Games happened, and by the way, we hold up what Jesse Owens did and a number of other
00:42athletes as great examples of upholding the Olympic spirit.
00:46So I think we need to also remember that there are also some good aspects of that.
00:52The technical answer, which is actually quite important, is that the validity of those trademarks depends on us exercising our
01:01rights to use those trademarks.
01:03So if we stop using those trademarks, they can be taken by other people and potentially misused.
01:09We produce a small number of those items, but the main reason is to protect our copyright so that it
01:16can't be misused.
01:17I think we'll be with you next time.
01:17To be honest.
01:18Let's do it.
