00:00Whether it was the harrowing death of a beloved original trilogy icon,
00:04a sudden execution of a figure who hadn't exactly been a saint up to that point,
00:09or the disrespectful way a few cult-favorite faces were dispatched,
00:14the latest set of Skywalker Saga movies certainly was not afraid to get a little
00:18bit messed up when it came to killing off its characters, just like the trilogies that came
00:23before them. So after already looking at those prequel and original trilogy kills that were
00:27undeniably dark, surreal or deranged, it's time to remember the times when the sequel trilogy
00:33unleashed some quite effed up ends too. So I'm Gareth, this is WhatCulture Star Wars,
00:39and here are the 10 most messed up deaths in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
00:4310. General Hooks is Brutally Terminated
00:46Getting the messed up ends of some of the more villainous personalities within the sequel
00:50trilogy out of the way early, the murder of General Hooks during Episode 9 The Rise of Skywalker
00:55likely didn't lead to anyone shedding a tear. This was an often ruthless and irritating bloke who'd
01:01helped the First Order kill millions of people, we will get there. He was also someone who was
01:06willing to turn his back on his own people to take down his rival Kylo Ren. But despite all that,
01:12it must be said that the way he was ultimately dispatched was still undeniably brutal. Not long
01:17after helping Finn, Poe, and Chewbacca escape by killing the First Order's own stormtroopers,
01:23and telling them that he was the spy who'd been feeding information to the Resistance,
01:28the man who wanted Ren to lose above all else met up with the Legion General Enric Pride.
01:34Here, Hooks attempts to fool Pride into thinking he was overpowered by the gang,
01:38but the latter saw through his wounded leg, given to him by Finn to make the lie seem more believable.
01:43In the blink of an eye, Pride coldly and savagely blasts a hole through the traitor. Even though
01:49Hooks definitely had it coming and wasn't exactly the nicest of human beings,
01:52watching him be so viciously taken out before he even knew what hit him was still a pretty
01:57disturbing moment. 9. Supreme Leader Snoke is shockingly halved
02:02Now again, this is definitely a case of a sequel villain very much earning the grisly demise they
02:07received. That didn't make it any less effed up to watch. Throughout episodes 7 and 8, the cruel Supreme
02:14Leader Snoke had been both leading the awful First Order and manipulating Kylo Ren in the shadows.
02:20In other words, he was the big bad of the trilogy so far. So it was certainly satisfying to watch
02:25him be surprisingly fooled and bested by his people towards the end of The Last Jedi.
02:30Seeing someone's body be split in two and roll across the room will never not be a distressing
02:35sight though. Believing that Ren was about to kill his true enemy Rey within his throne room,
02:41Snoke's senses betrayed him. Instead, Ren was actually planning on doing exactly that to his powerful
02:46master. Using the force to turn the Skywalker family lightsaber and bisect the strangcast where
02:52he sat. Snoke's stunned mug, his torso flopping to the ground like a sack of potatoes in the background,
02:59and the embers from his singed lower half flickering in the air all combine to create a death that is
03:05barbarous, shocking and, well, pleasing all at once. What a messed up combination.
03:128. Nia Numb's Lame Lightning Demise In the wake of Snoke being split in
03:16half in Episode 8, the position of Big Bad of the trilogy was now vacant. Not for long though,
03:21as Emperor Palpatine soon somehow returned, revealing that he'd actually been pulling the
03:26Snoke's strings all this time. I know, who knew? Fast forward to the end of Episode 9,
03:31The Rise of Skywalker, and it was that all-powerful returning Sith Lord's tried-and-tested lightning
03:36that sadly resulted in one of the most unceremonious deaths in the entire saga.
03:42After spending YEARS fighting the good fight for the Rebel Alliance and Resistance,
03:47and even helping bring down the second Death Star, you'd think fan-favorite Nia Numb would've
03:52been given a somewhat moving or even epic end. Instead though, J.J. Abrams decided to simply have
03:58the pancake-faced legend just get caught in the middle of Palpatine's lightning storm,
04:02and blown up inside of the Tantive foreship. That was it. His death didn't really add any
04:08emotional weight to the underwhelming, climactic battle of Exegol either, as it happened too quickly
04:13for anyone to really register what had actually gone down. It's just a throwaway, shocking in more
04:17than one way, and quite disrespectful end for one of the original trilogy's most recognizable alien faces.
04:24He deserved better. Now who's your favorite alien in all of Star Wars? You let me know in the comments
04:28section down below and it better be Nia Numb. 7. Poe disobeys a direct order, gets many killed,
04:35and the First Order still follow the Resistance. Before the great Nia Numb was taken away too soon
04:40on Exegol, a number of other brave Resistance fighters were also suddenly killed in action during the
04:46opening stages of Episode 8, The Last Jedi. Now these skilled pilots obviously knew the risks before they
04:51strapped into their cockpit. However, you could definitely argue that some of them may have
04:56lived to see the Resistance ultimately conquer the First Order were it not for one man's stupidity.
05:01Poe Dameron is ordered to leave the First Order's dreadnought alone and join the rest of the
05:06Resistance after their successful evacuation of the planet Dakar. But did he listen? Not a chance.
05:12Instead, Dameron refused to let the chance to take out the Fleet Killer pass him by, ignoring General
05:17Leia Organa's aforementioned order and subsequently causing the deaths of many a pilot. Sure, they did
05:23destroy the Dreadnought in the end and bought the Resistance enough time to get away, but that small
05:28win cost the good guys a ton of their fighters, bombers and loyal personnel. Making that dumb decision
05:34even more messed up, the Resistance were then soon found by the First Order thanks to their hyperspace
05:39tracking technology. Had Poe obeyed Leia's order, many of those ships may have still been picked off by
05:45the enemy as they slowly chipped away at our heroes. But it's also likely that at least a few more
05:50Resistance members would have made it out of The Last Jedi alive if one cocky X-Wing pilot actually
05:55listened to his boss. Nice one Poe.
05:586. The Villagers Who Were Coldly Executed On Jakku
06:01One of the most despicable and horrific acts of the entire sequel trilogy actually occurred less than 10
06:08minutes into it. During the intense Episode 7 The Force Awakens opening sequence involving Poe Dameron
06:13trying to keep the map to Luke Skywalker out of the First Order's hands, the latter were introduced as
06:19a truly merciless foe. After launching an attack on a small village on Jakku, one that eventually
06:25resulted in Law San Tekka being murdered by Kylo Ren, the First Order Stormtroopers were ordered to do
06:31something quite appalling. Once he'd captured Poe, Ren commanded his metal-suited ally, Captain Phasma,
06:37to get the troopers to coldly execute each and every one of the remaining villagers who dared to
06:44oppose his forces. It is some seriously harrowing stuff. Killing those who are firing their own
06:49blasters at you is one thing, but watching a group of defenseless, unarmed prisoners all be gunned down
06:54once Ren had already gotten his hands on Poe, immediately showed the viewer that the First Order
06:59were not to be messed with. Horrifying acts of violence early on and nothing new in a Star Wars trilogy,
07:04but this was still a particularly vicious way to kick off the latest collection of family-friendly
07:09adventures.
07:10Yaaaay.

07:225. Geol Ackbar is blown out of a ship and barely mentioned again
07:26Another fan-favourite original trilogy alien who was given a quite underwhelming and rather
07:30disrespectful demise. The sequel trilogy did the legendary Geol Ackbar dirty too,
07:36without doubt one of the most respected military figures in the galaxy. This Mon Calamari admiral
07:41ultimately racked up a whopping 60 years of service before his time in the Star Wars universe reached
07:47its end. Rather than ultimately sacrificing himself to save his fellow resistance fighters and
07:52then being respectfully mourned as one of the good guy's bravest and most important leaders,
07:57though, Ackbar's death was a bit of a disappointment. When First Order TIE fighters
08:01fired on the raddest cruiser during Episode 8 The Last Jedi, Ackbar was one of the people sucked out
08:06into space along with General Leia Organa. Unlike Leia though, the It's a Trap icon wasn't able to save
08:12himself via the Force. If watching him be abruptly shot out into space wasn't already painful enough
08:17for longtime fans of the Rebel Leader who helped bring down the second Death Star, Ackbar's death is
08:22then barely even acknowledged. It's mentioned in a throwaway line, sure, but the much-loved character
08:28is pretty much forgotten about after that. What a terrible way to treat a legend of the galaxy, eh?
08:32No one was expecting Ackbar to die in the middle of a dramatic showdown with Snoke or anything,
08:36but he surely deserved a more memorable end than just being blown out of a window in the background.
08:41Number 4 Ochi kills Rey's parents
08:43The Sith dagger was an incredibly silly addition to the Skywalker saga. Them's just the facts.
08:49Away from it somehow being used to find the exact part of the Death Star that Rey needed to get
08:54to,
08:54though, this weapon did actually find itself in the middle of one of the most tragic moments of the
08:58trilogy. Before the gang got their hands on it, this weapon had been used by a bounty hunter known as
09:04Ochi of Bastoon. It's eventually revealed in Episode 9 The Rise of Skywalker that Ochi actually took that
09:10very same tool that boasted a Death Star locating tape measure and altered Rey's life forever with it.
09:16You see, Ochi had been ordered by the returning Darth Sidious to bring his granddaughter to him,
09:21but after Rey's parents refused to tell him where she was, he responded by brutally plunging the
09:26Sith dagger into both of them. After learning of this devastating truth, a no doubt traumatized
09:32Rey then continues walking around holding and using the exact same weapon that robbed her of her own
09:37parents. That is pretty messed up whatever way you slice it. That was an accidental dagger joke and
09:42I am so ashamed.
09:433. All the people in the Hosnian system
09:45The original trilogy's wiping out of Alderaan was an utterly horrifying moment, with millions of
09:52innocent people having their lives suddenly taken thanks to the Death Star's planet-killing laser.
09:57The sequel trilogy saw that startling world destruction and decided to multiply it by five.
10:02Unleashing the power of their own terrifying superweapon, the First Order's General Hooks
10:07commanded Starkiller Base's laser to be fired at all of the worlds within the Hosnian system.
10:12With the rest of the galaxy unable to protect these worlds, including the capital of the New
10:16Republic that was Hosnian Prime, beautiful but deadly red beams of light shot through space before
10:22finally colliding with these planets. Billions of lives were lost and the New Republic was
10:28shattered by just one use of the phantom energy beam. Most brief moments showing panicking and
10:33defenceless civilians on these worlds, fearing for their lives as the red light of death broke
10:38through the clouds was seriously distressing stuff, even if it wasn't quite as heartbreaking or messed
10:44up as watching Leia viewing the destruction of her homeworld in Episode 4 in New Hope. Still,
10:49with just one push of a button, the First Order scared the life out of the galaxy as it watched
10:54this
10:55Hosnian cataclysm unfold. 2. Han Solo is Murdered by His Baby Boy
11:00After fighting for years to try and add a little emotional weight to a Star Wars story with his
11:06demise, Harrison Ford finally got his Han Solo wish in Episode 7 The Force Awakens in a rather
11:12atrocious way. Finally coming face to mask and then face with his baby boy within Starkiller Base,
11:18the two Solo men talked about how Snoke was using Ben and would crush him once he got what he
11:24wanted,
11:24right when it appeared that there may have still been some good in the Solo sun though,
11:28Kylo Ren subtly ignited his flickering lightsaber and impaled his stunned father in front of not only
11:34his new pals Finn and Rey, but his hairy bestie Chewbacca. That roar from the broken Wookiee will
11:42forever haunt Star Wars fans' minds. The last thing the iconic smuggler ever saw was his own kid
11:48staring a hole through his head after monstrously sticking a lightsaber in him. It doesn't get much more
11:53effed up than that. Sure, he'd eventually return as a Vision a few films later and help bring his
11:58son back over to the light side, but these were still some rather horrible final moments amongst
12:03the living for everyone's favourite rebel dad. And number one, all Luke's students that died in
12:09the destruction of his temple. Everything about this awful event is all kinds of messed up. For starters,
12:14the incident that led to Luke Skywalker's Jedi temple going up in flames as seen in The Last Jedi,
12:19was little more than an awkward and regrettable misunderstanding. Seeing into the mind of his
12:25young student, Ben Solo, Luke Skywalker saw the growing darkness within him and instinctively
12:30ignited his lightsaber as the thought of killing him crossed his mind. Said horrible idea soon passed,
12:37but the damage was already done, as Ben woke up to see his trusted master stood over him with a
12:42weapon.
12:43Confused, angered, and hurt by Luke's betrayal, Ren would then head out and ultimately kill many of
12:48Skywalker's other students with a lightning storm aimed at the temple, according to Charles
12:53Sewell's The Rise of Kylo Ren comic. Though he apparently didn't mean to kill his fellow students,
12:58it was already too late, with a number of budding Force users losing their lives in their sleep,
13:03all thanks to Luke and Ben's moments of devastating confusion. This is why you should always think before
13:08you act, folks.
