These Star Wars clones are the most badass soldiers in the Grand Army of the Republic.
Transcript
00:00In an army where everyone walks, talks, and acts like you, it's difficult to stand out.
00:05But not to these clones.
00:07I'm Ewan, this is WarCultureStarWars, and here are the 10 Most Badass Clone Troopers.
00:13Number 10, The Bad Batch.
00:15Yeah, I know this is slightly cheating given that they're a group and I'm not focusing on just one individual
00:21clone,
00:21but come on, how are you meant to choose between these guys?
00:24They're all really cool.
00:25The Bad Batch were the breakout stars of The Clone Wars Season 7, with fan-favorite Echo joining Hunter, Wrecker,
00:32Tech, and Crosshair in the final season's opening arc.
00:36The Bad Batch, aka Clone Force 99, are unlike the rest of the soldiers in the clone army in that
00:42they developed imperfections during the cloning process.
00:45However, the fact they're so dynamic and independent gives them an edge in combat, with Hunter especially looking like the
00:52Star Wars equivalent of Rambo.
00:54Number 9,
00:5599
00:56Although not badass in terms of his ability to take on clankers and battle, 99 was definitely badass in spirit.
01:0499 was an outsider among all his brothers, but had the heart of a fighter.
01:09Deemed unfit for service, he was assigned as a maintenance clone.
01:13Nevertheless, 99 always had a smile on his face.
01:17He took pride in his work, but he longed to be a soldier like his brothers.
01:20He had a particularly close bond with Heavy, who upon graduation gave 99 his medal as a keepsake and told
01:28him he would return for it later.
01:29Sadly, that day would not come, and 99 learned of Heavy's death when the remaining members of Domino Squad returned
01:36to defend Kamino from another invasion attempt.
01:39During the Battle of Kamino, 99 would follow in Heavy's footsteps, sacrificing himself in the heat of battle.
01:47Number 8, Commander Cody
01:48One of a few clones to appear in live action before the 2008 animated show, Commander Cody was one of
01:55the more seasoned clone commanders in the Grand Army of the Republic.
01:58Leading the 212th Attack Battalion under General Obi-Wan Kenobi, Cody is a by-the-book leader who gets the
02:06job done.
02:07Being a classic military type, Cody follows orders and is a loyal soldier.
02:11This creates a sort of contrast between him and Rex, as he does not think to question if what he
02:16is doing is actually the right thing.
02:18Despite this, Cody valued the lives of his men during the countless battles he fought in over the course of
02:24the war.
02:24Here's hoping we find out what happened to him after Order 66 sooner rather than later.
02:29Number 7, Commander Wolf
02:31Leader of the Wolf Pack and commander to General Plo Koon, Commander Wolf was a veteran who saw his fair
02:38share of conflict.
02:40Able to command a battle either by leading from the front or from the bridge of a command ship, Wolf
02:44inspired a fierce loyalty in his men.
02:47Initially sporting a maroon color scheme on his armor, Wolf redesigned this following the Malevolence arc
02:53after losing the entire 104th Battalion, he changed the iconic gray and adopted the Wolf logo on his armor.
03:00Wolf did not only lose his comrades during the war though, as he also lost an eye during a confrontation
03:06with Asajj Ventress.
03:08During his second appearance in Star Wars Rebels, Wolf had changed considerably.
03:12Suffering with trauma after removing his inhibitor chip, he had to overcome his own demons to do battle once more,
03:19this time against the Empire.
03:21Number 6, Hardcase
03:23The 501st heavy weapons enthusiast, Hardcase's most notable appearance came in the Umbara arc in The Clone Wars.
03:32Hardcase revels in the chaos of battle, but he knows when he is outmatched and outgunned.
03:36Not wanting to see his brothers die an unnecessary death, together with Fives, he manages to work out the secrets
03:42of the Umbara and Starfighters to use them to their own advantage.
03:45Disobeying the orders of General Pong Krell, who is a big meanie, not gonna lie, to save his brothers walking
03:52into a slaughter, he helps in the attack on a Separatist command ship, attacking it from the inside, echoing Anakin
03:59during the Phantom Menace.
04:00Hardcase opts to stay behind to destroy the ship from the inside, and goes out in a fitting explosion only
04:06he would be proud of.
04:07Number 5, Gregor
04:09A one-hit wonder in The Clone Wars during the episode Missing in Action, Gregor is an amnesiac clone commando
04:16who appears to be a simple pot washer.
04:19However, this kitchen porter is comparable to a Star Wars John Wick once he remembers how to handle a rifle.
04:26Capable of fighting off dozens of droids, it can be assumed he has racked up quite the kill count, if
04:32the tally on his helmet is anything to go by at least.
04:34Gregor was initially thought to have been killed in action after covering the escape of Colonel Meebor Gascon and his
04:40droid team, but he made a surprise appearance alongside Captain Rex and Commander Wolf in Star Wars Rebels.
04:47Albeit, Gregor had undergone a slight personality change after removing his inhibitor chip, this didn't stop him from taking up
04:53arms once more though, this time against his former employers in the Empire.
04:57This would be his last battle though, as Gregor dies in Rex's arms after being shot by an Imperial Technician.
05:05Number 4, Sev
05:07Sev is the bloodstained sniper of Delta Squad and appeared in 2005's Republic Commando video game.
05:14Skilled even among the ranks of the commandos, he was praised by his handler for pushing himself beyond the limits
05:20of what was expected of the clones, leading Sev to gain a reputation as a ruthless but efficient soldier.
05:26The only thing more ruthless than Sev's aim was his sense of humor, claiming the tank that he was grown
05:32in was spiked, which caused him to develop more psychopathic tendencies.
05:36But despite having an intimidating front, Sev maintained a brotherly bond with his squad, especially Scorch, who cameoed alongside him
05:44in The Clone Wars.
05:45A show that actually sort of owes its existence to Republic Commando, given it was the first piece of Star
05:51Wars media to actually give the clones distinguishable personalities following some of the comics.
05:57Number 3, Fives
05:58Fives
05:59Fives undergoes one of the biggest arcs throughout the Clone Wars.
06:02We see him throughout his training, his graduation, his promotion to Arc Trooper, and even as a fugitive.
06:10He's one of the best examples of the clones being portrayed as more than just soldiers.
06:14Fives himself was unafraid to stand up for what he believed in, and he placed the lives of his friends
06:20above all else, even if that meant enticing the wrath of General Pong Krell, that guy again, during the Umbara
06:28arc.
06:28This earned him a reputation as being a bit of a maverick, but also a loyal soldier.
06:33After Tup's inhibitor chip malfunctions and he prematurely executes a Jedi, Fives finds himself going down a rabbit hole conspiracy
06:40that almost leads him to preventing Order 66.
06:43In what is one of the most heartbreaking moments in the show, Fives dies before he can expose the Emperor's
06:50secret plot.
06:51He only appears in 15 episodes throughout the series, but he's instrumental in Ahsoka and Rex surviving Order 66.
06:58Number 2, Fordo
07:00Okay, now we're talking.
07:02The original clone badass, this red Arc Trooper gave General Grievous a run for his money in the 2003 Clone
07:10Wars series from Genndy Todakovsky.
07:11Able to hold off waves of battle droids on his own, Fordo set the standard all other clones are held
07:17to.
07:18And yet I know he is a bit of a fairly one-dimensional character, but Fordo more than makes up
07:23for that in Raw Cool Factor alone.
07:25We are first introduced to him during the Battle for Moonalist, where he aids Obi-Wan Kenobi in apprehending Separatist
07:31leaders, even battling with the bounty hunter Dirge in the process.
07:35However, this was just a warm-up for Fordo, as he and his team were sent to rescue a group
07:40of Jedi dueling General Grievous.
07:42Surrounded by an army of droids, Fordo was able to get his Republic gunship in, fend off the Jedi killing
07:48general, rescue the survivors, and escape without a scratch.
07:52We last see him during the invasion of Coruscant.
07:55Clad in his phase 2 armor, he defends an entire sector single-handedly like some kind of not giving up
08:02guy.
08:03Do us all a favor Lucasfilm and bring him back into canon, yeah?
08:07And number 1.
08:08Rex
08:10Alongside Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex was the best written character to come out of the Clone Wars.
08:15Originally a by-the-books captain, he becomes the most well-developed and written clone character on the entire series.
08:22Learning to think for himself, he has a fierce loyalty to his Jedi General and comrades.
08:27He also takes on many of Anakin's traits and teachings and acts as a sort of big brother to Ahsoka,
08:32as well as a role model to his men.
08:34This is once again most prevalent in the Umbara arc, where Rex is stuck between doing his duty or protecting
08:41the lives of his soldiers.
08:42Some of the bleakest episodes in the entire Clone Wars, this is where Rex really comes into his own and
08:48begins to challenge his belief system when facing off with General Pong Krell.
08:51In this arc, it feels more like a gritty war drama rather than a Star Wars show airing on a
08:57kids TV channel.
08:58A firm fan favorite, Rex returned in Rebels alongside the previously mentioned Gregor and Wolf.
09:04Joining Kanan Jarrus and his crew, Rex continued to bring new and exciting ideas to the show.
09:10Seeing a clone and Jedi interact post Order 66 creates some great moments.
09:14Rex even went on to participate in the Battle of Endor, joining Han Solo's strike team to blow up the
09:20Forest Moon's shield generator and that is some seriously cool Star Wars trivia.
09:24Also, given the direction of the live action of Star Wars shows, it might not be long until we see
09:29Rex in live action.
09:30One can only hope he shows up in the Ahsoka series when it eventually drops.
09:35And those were 10 of the most badass clone troopers in Star Wars history.
09:39Are there any you feel we missed?
