During the Budget discussion in the Rajya Sabha, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan raised concerns over rising movie ticket prices and the tax burden on the entertainment industry. She described Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as a “great storyteller” while asserting that the industry is among the highest taxpayers. In response, Sitharaman clarified that entertainment tax and ticket pricing fall under the jurisdiction of state governments, not the Centre. She also highlighted that Budget 2026 includes initiatives to support animation, visual effects, and content creation through skill development programs and institutional backing to strengthen the creative economy.
