The controversial indie horror game 'Horses' gained notoriety after being banned from Steam. Despite selling 18,000 copies and earning enough to pay off its debts, the revenue wasn't sufficient for developer Santa Ragione to begin production on a new game.

00:00Horses, the controversial indie horror game that got banned on Steam, has actually sold
00:04enough copies to break even, but that's where the good news ends.
00:09Admittedly, the Steam ban gave Horses a huge visibility boost, with players rallying behind
00:14it, but Steam is far and away the dominant PC storefront, and Horses not being available
00:20there would be a massive detriment to any PC-only release, so even with all that attention,
00:26it still wasn't enough to keep the studio going.
00:30Developer Santaragione has now confirmed Horses sold about 18,000 copies, bought in roughly
00:35$65,000 and paid off its debts, but sadly this result is not enough to begin production on
00:43a new game.
00:44There's always a chance someone with a lot of money sees Horses, and decides to invest
00:48in Santaragione for another game, but the cynic in me worries that the fact that hasn't happened
00:54yet, even after weeks of high-profile media attention, means there's a low chance of that
00:59ever happening.
