00:00You're nominated for producer of the year this year. How does it feel to get that recognition?
00:04It's wonderful. I mean I think I think a lot of people there's a lot of confusion about
00:08what a producer is or what they do in music and that's understandable too. So it feels like it's
00:16probably more the product of getting to work with the artists that I've gotten to work with over the
00:21last year you know and be part of those projects but it's really it's really sweet. Yeah looking
00:27back in the year from a producer perspective what's a record that you heard that you were
00:31like man I wish that I was in the driver's seat for that one? Well that's a weird question because
00:37it kind of tacks on to the thing I was just sort of saying you know like so many things
00:43that people
00:43hear as being an aspect of production could be an idea that that came from the artist like you know
00:50the artist comes in and they have a lot of opinions about what they want their record to sound like
00:55right like I want strings on this song or I I want you know a lot of effects on my
00:58voice and
00:59they're all things that we think of as being production so you know when I'm listening to
01:03albums um that I wasn't a part of I'm not really thinking about like oh I wonder um you know
01:10I
01:10wonder what it was like to produce that uh but but a couple things that I heard recently um the
01:15the
01:16Water From Your Eyes record I was really knocked out by just the feeling of not knowing what to expect
01:23next and
01:24that's a that's a that's a good feeling right you're you're nominated against yourself yeah
01:29what's it like to be competing with yourself I don't know we're just we're just trying something
01:33new this year uh final question because I was a huge fan of your work with Fiona Apple
01:38have you spoken with her about maybe doing something again oh um you know nothing nothing like in the
01:45immediate future but um but she's been doing some incredible work with the Court Watch organization
01:51um and the the last the last song she put out was was about uh I think a case um
01:57uh that that she
01:58came across through that uh so you know as as as you are I'm just a fan and always hoping
02:05that
02:05there's more music coming a lifelong fan so yeah well good luck tonight thank you so much
