00:00NATO has launched a new mission to strengthen its military presence in the Arctic
00:05as tensions grow within the alliance following U.S. President Donald Trump's push to seize Greenland.
00:11The mission, called Arctic Century, aims to coordinate allied forces in the region
00:15as China and Russia expand their interests in the northern region.
00:21NATO Secretary General Mark Rutgers said the initiative will bring existing Arctic activities
00:26under a single command structure.
00:28The mission will be led by NATO's Joint Force Command in Norfolk, Virginia.
00:33It will align allied activities including Denmark's Arctic endurance exercises in Greenland.
00:38NATO has not revealed troop numbers or specific assets.
00:42However, Germany confirmed it will deploy four Eurofighter jets and air-to-air refueling support in the first phase.
00:49The move follows talks between Trump and Rutte in Davos last month.
00:53Trump said the U.S. must control Greenland for national security reasons
00:56and did not rule out using force.
00:59The Arctic has become a growing flashpoint as melting ice opens new sea routes and access to resources,
01:05drawing increased competition from Moscow and Beijing.
