00:00British ministers arrived at 10 Downing Street on Tuesday for a cabinet meeting amidst calls
00:10for Prime Minister Keir Starmer's ouster. Starmer's government has plunged into crisis
00:16after former Ambassador to the United States Peter Mandelson, who he appointed was reported
00:22to have close ties with the late U.S. sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The resignation of communications
00:29chief Tim Allen followed the exit of Starmer's aide Morgan McSweeney, who said he took responsibility
00:36for advising on the appointment of Mandelson. Despite the speculations, Starmer has reportedly
00:43refused to quit. Energy minister Ed Miliband said Starmer's cabinet has done a lot of good things,
00:51and Labour Party lawmakers decided the right thing to do is to unite behind Starmer.
00:56I want to be very clear with you, Nick. Peter Mandelson should never have been appointed
01:01to this post. We are a government whose central purpose, I believe, is to stand up for the
01:07powerless, not the powerful, and it undermines that. I think Keir would agree with this, because the
01:13truth is that I think the government, our government, is doing lots of good things for the country,
01:18whether it's new employment rights or investment in the NHS, or what I'm seeking to do driving
01:24forward with clean energy, but it's been drowned out by policy mistakes, like winter fuel payment.
01:33I've been in politics a long time, Nick, as have you. What gets you through is a sense of your values
01:38and your moral mission. I know why this government was elected, because for 20 years, this country has
01:45been run for the wealthy and powerful, not ordinary working people. The manifestation of that is this
01:50long-term cost-of-living crisis. We exist to change that.
01:54Reports said that Starmer had received messages of support from his top ministers and some potential
02:01leadership rivals, and a positive reception at a meeting of Labour Party lawmakers suggested
02:07there would be no imminent move to oust him.
02:10Thank you so much for working with you.
02:14You just said you see your eyes on your behalf.
02:17You see you.
