00:17The accused allegedly hid stolen items inside his pants and attempted to pay only for a packet
00:22of Maggi before being caught by alert store employees. According to store staff, they
00:27had been monitoring the suspect for several days after CCTV footage earlier showed him
00:32stealing on multiple occasions, though his identity was then unknown. On Monday, employees
00:37closely watched his movements and caught him red-handed while he was trying to leave the
00:41store. The accused has been identified as Ashwini alias Ashubhatiya, a resident of Motinagar.
00:47In a video recorded by store staff, he is seen admitting his guilt. He claimed he had spent a
00:52month in Australia on a tourist visa and returned to India just a week ago.
00:56When questioned about the thefts, he said he was going through financial difficulties,
01:01though he failed to give a clear reason for his actions. Store employees recovered cowghee
01:06worth around $2,500, a honey container worth $500, along with ketchup and other grocery items
01:12from his possession. The accused also confessed to stealing tea leaves three times from the
01:17same store and once from another store on Meeroot Road. The incident was recorded on video and
01:22handed over to the Sadar Bazar police, who have taken the accused into custody and initiated
01:28further legal action.
