Transcript
00:00Hey guys, it's Matty from the Newcastle Herald and we're here today chatting to locals about what they think about Lord Mayor Ross Kerridge's resignation and what the council should be focusing on for 2026.
00:11I think the gentleman has taken the right choice after being diagnosed with cancer and I can relate to him because I went through the same situation in 2024. He's got a big job to do there and I think he's made exactly the right choice.
00:31He gave his best, he gave it a shot and seemingly rocked things a little bit. It was good to have an independent back, I think anyway.
00:39He came into difficult circumstances and he was ganged up on basically and he looked like he could have done something but didn't really get a chance. Not with the numbers.
00:51Slowing the e-bikes down in Newcastle and making parents responsible for what their kids are doing.
00:57Those electric black bush bikes getting around.
01:01I thought in the circumstances he did a very good job but he was up against quite a lot I think and I just wish him well.
01:12Use the council for the letter for the people of a stepping stone into state parliament.
01:18Look I think councils should focus on what councils do best which is the old days of roads and get all that sort of stuff done and have a bit of an idea of where they want the city to go.
