00:06:29Thank you, baby.
00:38:15Thank you very much.
00:38:40were kids had our parents rely on petroleum and had our parents smother our faces in it right
00:38:47before school show hands okay i see y'all see y'all or maybe you're the parent now carrying on that
00:38:54same tradition either way i'm not judging at all i was a hundred percent that kid ever since i
00:39:02could remember i remember my mom slathering my face in petroleum jelly before school only for
00:39:07me to come home with the exact same dryness especially on my eczema prone skin i remember
00:39:13her saying why is it dry all of a sudden as we call ashy okay but it turns out petroleum was
00:39:22the main culprit for my lack of moisture and i'm not alone in this i'm actually one of many 50
00:39:28of consumers who once relied on petroleum felt the exact same dryness after use petroleum itself
00:39:35is a non-renewable source a byproduct of the oil industry and it has even been connected to cancer
00:39:42guys yet founded so many legacy brands products on shelf today petroleum is over 200 years old and has
00:39:49yet to be reinvented until today i'm britney bygrave i'm the founder and ceo of buttered body care
00:39:56we're the next generation of body care for dry and melanated skin with non-toxic ingredients we exist to
00:40:03ensure people with dry skin conditions can moisturize and feel comfortable and confident in their own
00:40:09skin we are one of the first black owned brands to create a natural alternative to petroleum heli jelly
00:40:16and it's been viral ever since judges please
00:40:23thank you it's made from castor oil aloe vera and vitamin e with a which of course consumers love on
00:40:31their skin but it's also caring for the planet in the meantime the product itself comes in three
00:40:37different sizes ranging from 7.99 to 2199 with a 70 percent gross margin you can find it on our d2c
00:40:45storefront amazon tick tock shop as well as 10 independent retail stores and we are proud to say
00:40:52one of the largest natural grocers is interested in our products so the product itself is expected to
00:40:59launch regionally in 50 doors at the top of next year so the concept for clean better for you natural
00:41:07it's not a new concept at all but we're redefining what legacy brands told us about moisturizing
00:41:14and ensuring we're spreading the education within our community our core customer or black and brown
00:41:19consumers who exceptionally spend 1.5 billion dollars on moisturizers annually guys annually and we're
00:41:29in the moisturizing hand and body lotion category which is expected to exceed 17.5 billion dollars by 2030
00:41:38so we're already coming in the market with momentum baby we've been backed by some really cool
00:41:43organizations founded by pharrell and beyoncee and now the new voices family so we are already embraced
00:41:50by our community and ready to grow but currently we're growing organically with one video on our
00:41:57social media platform we've been able to garner over 800 000 views and 15 000 in just four days
00:42:05and we have been having trouble keeping the product in stock ever since
00:42:10but i think we can all agree that's an amazing problem to have right but as a company right now
00:42:17we're growing 500 percent month to month at a 60 repeat customer rate as well as expected to hit a
00:42:23quarter million dollars by the end of the year which will be our biggest year yet so our biggest challenge
00:42:29currently is simple we have not been able to produce the product fast enough to meet demand
00:42:34and again that is another amazing problem to have so with this grand prize we'll be able to invest 50
00:42:43percent of it in ensuring that we are trusting our co-manufacturer to scale our product with our
00:42:48same quality in mind 25 will be glaring towards our marketing and ensuring we're scaling our petroleum
00:42:54free education as well as 25 going to ensuring we are retail ready and retail successful to ensure
00:43:02when we do go in stores we're not only stocked on the shelf but we're also driving sales so join us
00:43:09at buttered body care as we ensure the next generation especially little girls like myself
00:43:15who struggled with eczema and relied on petroleum have the option to heal their skin naturally thank you
00:43:22all great job um and thank you for allowing us to try it um in terms of patents and protecting the product
00:43:34what's the stories behind patents in this in the category for you yes um currently we do own our formula
00:43:41and it is proprietary to us as a trade secret um as we innovate into different categories as blips etc
00:43:48we are looking into patents in the future when we do have future launches yeah i loved your energy
00:43:54um great job on the pitch thank you you said 25 percent would go towards marketing and moving beyond
00:44:04social yes i want to know where you would put those marketing dollars and why you would be pivoting from
00:44:12social if it's been so effective for you yeah right now social we see it as a starting point for us
00:44:19again it is organic for us so we aren't spending a dollar we would translate that into paid media on our
00:44:26same platform so also building off of the momentum that we already have but also as we scale in retail
00:44:32we think it's important to make sure we're hitting our different audiences and different channels so
00:44:37think about pr is something that's really interesting especially with the petroleum free education
00:44:43and um having people understand that we are one of the first black owned brands do that so i'm just
00:44:48going to jump in really quickly to give you some advice please pr is okay social is far more powerful so
00:44:56continue to build your social and you will do just fine like there's no publicist that will tell
00:45:02your story better than you i love that thank you especially coming from you thank you
00:45:07thanks melissa on that um quick question back to your distribution and desire to go to retail
00:45:14first what type of retailers are you thinking about and how do you consider the balance between where
00:45:21you're selling now and moving the retail from a timing perspective focus perspective infrastructure
00:45:27perspective how do you weigh that yes it is a balance of course translating our online customers to be in
00:45:34store um we see it as targeting our niches first so getting into those natural grocers are really
00:45:41important to us so the grocers that don't even accept petroleum products so we can naturally stand out
00:45:47on the shelf and not have those big box legacy brands to be competing with which is really difficult
00:45:53we also have the strategy of starting regionally and of course expanding from there so the retailers top
00:45:5950 40 doors so we can excel there and then scale nationally etc so it is not you know we're getting
00:46:07into a thousand retailers tomorrow we are growing incrementally and make sure we're scaling smart um
00:46:13and then of course as we grow the product innovation grows and our customer grows and our social media
00:46:20grow so will our retail presence okay thank you very much thank you really appreciate it thank you thank you
00:46:26all right thank you so much britney and without further ado we will get started our judges will take some
00:46:35time to deliberate and we will be back in just a few minutes to announce the winners
00:46:56coming up at 4 pm you won't want to miss
