00:00That number that you saw on that video, there are only 3% of our dermatologists are black, 3%.
00:10And so tonight, I want to talk to you about the founding of L'Oreal, because I think it's kind of important for us to understand more about the company behind the products that we put on our bodies and in our hair.
00:23And L'Oreal was founded 115 years ago by a chemist, a chemist.
00:30And so what that means is that science remains at the core of who we are as a company, so much so that we have over 4,000, y'all, 4,000 researchers working every day to invent the future of beauty.
00:45And in 2023 alone, we invested $1.3 billion, billion with a capital B, in research and innovation.
00:56And let me tell y'all, I am giddy in this moment, giddy, because I have the honor of welcoming your other host for the night, who is also an advocate for L'Oreal, for La Roche-Posay, Miss Kiki Palmer!
01:15Hey!
01:17Oh, my goodness, Leigh-Anne, you look so beautiful!
01:20You do, too!
01:21It's so good to be here with you and Essence family.
01:25How y'all doing?
01:27This is kiki!
01:30Now, some of you may know, some of you might, but I've had my own personal struggles with skin, okay?
01:35I've talked about it constantly.
01:37Despite what the internet makes you want to believe, everybody doesn't have glass skin.
01:41And many of us struggle with acne, hyperpigmentation, just dark spots, all this stuff that can really get you down.
01:47And so I've often spoken about it because it has affected my self-esteem.
01:51And I've always tried to figure out, how can I help myself?
01:54How can I feel better about myself?
01:55And find products that are actually going to fix the problem and not just put a Band-Aid over it.
02:00So when I was met with L'Oreal wanting me to be an advocate for their products, I was very excited.
02:08Because not only was it a situation of just, oh, you know, come here, this is the product, put your name on it, do this with us.
02:13But they actually sat down and introduced me to scientists and dermatologists that have put years and years into creating products that are actually going to help with fixing the issue.
02:24And so I got to sit, like she said, with La Roche-Posay and work with their products, Melo B3, and just get into what actually is going to help get my skin to be better.
02:34And, I mean, I cannot tell you guys how much success I've had with it and how easily it works into my routine.
02:40And how thankful I am for L'Oreal for creating these kind of products that can actually help solve the problem.
02:46Because it shows.
02:47I mean, Kiki, Kiki, it sure does, y'all.
02:52I mean, look at this glow that is emanating from her, right?
02:56Oh, my goodness.
02:56Thank you so much.
02:57Oh, my goodness, Kiki.
02:58You glow.
02:59And I bet you make every day a sunscreen day, don't you?
03:03Now, you know that's true.
03:04And I just got into the Anthelio UV Hydra sunscreen.
03:08Oh, it is amazing.
03:09It is.
03:09You know why, guys?
03:10Because as y'all know with black skin, some of these sunscreens, you put them on and it's like, I'm Casper, the friendly ghost.
03:17You know?
03:18But with this sunscreen, it actually comes on and gives a bit of a glow.
03:21And it just moves, moves right on in.
03:23It doesn't give you that cast that I really, really love.
03:25I put it on two, three times a day, which I don't know we always think about.
03:29Sometimes you assume at the top of the day you put your sunscreen on and that's just going to be it.
03:34But you actually got to put it on throughout the day.
03:36So that's been really helpful for me, too.
03:37And helping with those dark spots.
03:40Absolutely, y'all.
03:41Like, there is a myth that we don't need sunscreen, but that could not be farther from the truth.
03:46And that's right.
03:47Like, our scientists, you all, they are obsessed with one singular thing.
03:52Beauty for all, beauty for each.
03:55And speaking of unique needs, I am proud to be a woman of a certain age.
04:00And I'm starting to think about how my hair and my skin evolves as I age.
04:06And that thing that we don't really talk enough about, menopause.
04:11Yeah.
04:11And something I'm super excited about is the partnership that L'Oreal has started with the Harvard Medical School,
04:19where they are working on regenerative tools for our hair.
04:23We talk a lot about skin before our hair, which is going to be so helpful for alopecia,
04:29which we tend to get at a higher rate.
04:31And my edges could use some help as well.
04:34Can't we all?
04:35After I had my baby, I mean, my edges, everybody kept telling me,
04:39girls, who did you have your baby?
04:40You can forget about those edges.
04:41I'm like, girl, you're just hating.
04:43Edge was on the floor.
04:44It was crazy.
04:45We got some coming for that.
04:46Got some coming.
04:47But it speaks to L'Oreal's commitment to effective science-based products.
04:51And that's important, you guys.
04:52We got to know what we're putting in and on us,
04:55knowing that it's actually going to make a difference
04:56and that it has information that backs up the truth to it.
05:01Exactly.
05:02That is exactly it.
05:03L'Oreal, we strive to be the leader in inclusive beauty,
05:07beauty that is rooted in science.
05:09It is not just something that we say.
05:12It is who we are.
05:15Thank you so much for joining me, Kiki.
05:17I cannot wait to hear you get us excited for the rest of the evening.
05:21Stay beautiful, Essence.
05:24Love you guys.
05:25See you a little bit later.
