Donald Trump acknowledged that he personally approved posting a controversial video on his social media account which included a racist image depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. Speaking on Air Force One, Trump claimed he only watched the beginning of the 62-second clip and did not see the offensive segment placed near the end. The video also repeated conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.

The White House had first defended the post, later saying an aide uploaded it without the president’s knowledge before deleting it. Trump contradicted that explanation, admitting he authorized the upload but blamed staff for not reviewing the full content.

00:00The media post that you took down earlier today, the White House says that a staffer sent it.
00:06Who sent it and are you going to fire them?
00:08I looked at it. I saw it and I just looked at the first part.
00:12It was about voter fraud in someplace, Georgia.
00:16There was a lot of voter fraud, 2020 voter fraud, that I didn't see the whole thing.
00:20I guess during the end of it, there was some kind of a picture that people don't like.
00:27I wouldn't like it either, but I didn't see it.
00:29I looked at the first part and it was really about voter fraud and the machines, how crooked it is, how disgusting it is.
00:38Then I gave it to the people.
00:40Generally, they'd look at the whole thing, but I guess somebody didn't.
00:44They posted it and we took it down.
00:47But that was a voter fraud that nobody talks about.
00:50They don't like to talk about that post.
00:54We took it down as soon as we found out.
00:55Mr. President, a number of Republicans are calling on you to apologize for that post.
01:01Is that something you're going to do?
01:02No, I didn't make a mistake.
01:03I mean, I look at a lot of thousands of things.
01:06I looked at the beginning of it.
01:10It was fine.
01:12They had that one post.
01:13I guess it was a takeoff.
01:14By the way, a lot of people covered it.
01:16If you look at where it came from, I guess it was a takeoff on the Lion King.
01:22And certainly it was a very strong post in terms of voter fraud.
01:27Nobody knew that that was at the end.
01:29If they would have looked, they would have seen it.
01:31And probably they would have had the sense to take it down.
01:33But that was a takeoff on the Lion King.
01:35And a lot of people were covered in different positions.
01:42But I spoke to Tim Scott.
01:44He was great.
01:46Tim is a great guy.
01:47He understood that 100%.
01:48Go ahead.
01:50Mr. President, Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, met with Iran's foreign minister today.
01:56You also had Brad Cooper there, the head of CENTCOM.
01:58A deal doesn't look like it's been reached yet.
02:01How long are you willing to wait?
02:03It can be reached.
02:04Well, you have to get in position.
02:06We have plenty of time.
02:07If you remember Venezuela, we waited around for a while.
02:10And we're in no rush.
02:12We have, you know, very good talks going with Iran.
02:15We have very good talks going with Russia and Ukraine.
02:18We're doing a lot of good talking.
02:21And I think we had the results today were with Iran.
02:26It was a meeting.
02:27We're going to meet again early next week.
02:30And they want to make a deal.
02:31Iran, as they should want to make a deal.
02:34They know the consequences.
02:35If they don't make a deal, the consequences are very steep.
02:39So we'll see what happens.
02:40But they had a very good meeting with a very high representative of Iran.
02:47And we'll see how it all turns out.
02:50We'll give it a right scoop.
02:51By the way, I'd love to see that.
02:53If we could do that, I'd love to see it.
02:56Mr. President.
02:57With Iran, is there a deal that is acceptable that only covers...
03:01With Iran, is there a deal that only covers a nuclear that would be acceptable to you?
03:06Because they just want to have nuclear.
03:07They don't want to have anything else.
03:09It would be acceptable.
03:10But the one thing, and right up front, no nuclear weapons.
03:15If we could have made that deal two years ago, we would have made that deal.
03:18But they weren't willing to do that.
03:20Now they are willing to do it.
03:21So they're willing to do much more than they would have a year and a half ago.
03:27Or even a year ago when we've...
03:28Don't forget, we've only been doing this for exactly one year.
03:31And we started with them a few months after the beginning of this term.
03:36This term has been amazing.
03:38But the results could surprise people.
03:43If they would have offered this deal originally when we first started,
03:49it would have been accepted immediately.
03:50We'll see what happens.
03:51The many Americans who were offended by the video.
03:54You didn't want to tell us about this.
03:56I didn't know about it, so I mean, it went up.
03:58I really have no message.
03:59All I know is, here's my message,
04:01that our country has never been in a position like this.
04:05We were a laughingstock all over the world.
04:07And now we're a country that's respected more than we've ever been respected before.
04:11If you go back a year and a half ago, our country was a laughingstock.
04:16And now we're respected all over the world, like probably almost never before.
04:21I would say maybe like never before.
04:23And, you know, it's...
04:24If you look at it from an economic standpoint,
04:27when the king of Saudi Arabia said it, others said it,
04:30we were not a country that was even thought of as a country that was going to make it back.
04:37And in one year, we're the hottest country.
04:39We are right now the hottest country anywhere in the world.
04:43So that's my message.
