00:00All right, we are here at the first medal presentations of the 2026 Skate Canada Trophy
00:16competition, and I have with me pre-novice men's gold medalist Jackie Wang. Jackie,
00:23congratulations. Thank you. Can you tell me about your skates yesterday and today?
00:30I had a very good time, and I enjoyed every moment. In my short, I had a clean short, and
00:38it was very good. I had a very good time, and I was very excited. In my long, it wasn't
00:46perfect, but in the end, it was still really good, and I still broke the national record.
00:54That's right, and that's big news, too, with the new national record. So tell me something.
00:59Did you feel any pressure going into the free skate today because you were already in first
01:05place? For sure. I did feel some pressure, and I just tried to shrug it off, and I tried to
01:15stay calm and do the best that I could do, so I did not mess up.
01:22So last year in this event, you came fourth. What did you work on, or what did you learn
01:29from that to get ready for this year? I worked on, like, keeping myself calm when hearing my
01:36competitor's scores, because last year, I freaked out when I heard the scores, because they were
01:41really high, and I just couldn't calm myself down. And I also tried to keep my mental spirits
01:49up and have a good time, because last year, I just came, and I didn't really have a good time.
01:58Well, a much better time this year. So did your coach help you with that? Tell us about your coach.
02:03My coach. My coach is very fun, and he loves to skate with me. He is very helpful, and is great
02:14with me. A perfect match.
02:17So speaking of helpful, I understand you have a sister that also skates and competes. Now,
02:22do you help her?
02:22Yes, I hooked her lender, and now he has actually a record for a star seven, no, star nine.
02:30So you're just a record-setting family. That's pretty amazing. So tell me, do you have a favorite
02:35skater or skaters that you like to emulate or think about when you train and skate?
02:40I love Nathan Chen. He's one of my favorite skaters. His jumps are very light, and his claws are so pretty.
02:48Have you seen him skate?
02:49Yes, I've seen him skate a lot.
02:51Well, I'm looking forward to you. Now, you've developed some new triples since last year,
02:56and they're coming along nicely, and I know you're going to work on those, and I'm sure
02:59we're going to see some quads from you in the future?
03:03Yes.
03:04You think so? And what are your goals? What are some of your goals in skating now as you
03:09move forward?
03:10I hope to land a consistent triple-triple for my novice season, and I hope soon I will get
03:19my loop, so I get all my triples, and if I can, a triple-axle.
03:26Well, no doubt in my mind that you are going to accomplish that, and I look forward to seeing
03:30you develop through the season and in your skating career. Pre-novice men's gold medalist,
03:36Jackie Park.
