00:00So skiing is possible with a ruptured ACL. You know, skiing itself, especially downhill
00:06alpine skiing, it really relies on our quad strength, our hip strength, and our neuromuscular
00:11control. So it is possible with an ACL deficient knee. So Lindsey Vonn can stabilize her knee by
00:17really garnering her quadricep strength, specifically her eccentric quadricep strength,
00:22as well as using her hip and her core strength. And then she can also use a brace externally.
00:27So the injury can affect her performance. If she finds that she's getting more swelling
00:33or effusions in her knee, we're not able to really access our full power and strength.
00:38And then she would have more difficulty with her edge control and her power. But if she's
00:43controlling her effusions, like I know she is, then she'll be getting her strength and
00:48her edge control all set. The usual recommendation for treatment of an ACL tear in an active individual
00:55is surgery. However, I will say that sometimes we delay surgery to enable people to engage in
01:01competition if they're allowed, especially if they're performing at that elite level.
