14:10We need to check this blanket here.
14:14Is that the Argentine?

14:16Supposedly a body under all this.

15:41Hang tight right here.
15:42What's in your pants?
15:45Is there a gun in your pants?
15:47Yes.
15:48If it has been added, it's am right, 535, 0525.
15:59Around 11pm, Evansville police officers were dispatched for a possible kidnapping and murder.
16:05An adult female victim was still on scene and told officers that she went to the residence
16:09residents to visit with Heidi Carter. She saw a dead body and ran out of the home to get help.
16:15Officers located 36-year-old Heidi Carter outside of the home near a vehicle.
16:22What's in your pants? Is there a gun in your pants?
16:27Don't move.
16:39Yep. Quit moving.
16:49Yeah, it's loaded.
16:51It's not my gun.
16:56Don't move.
16:57A male rushed out of the front door in an aggressive manner and several officers fired at
17:12the suspect to stop the perceived threat. The suspect was pronounced dead on scene. Once
17:17officers cleared the home, officers located an adult female victim who had been tied up,
17:23shackled, and had visible injuries. Another individual was located inside the residence,
17:29but unfortunately was deceased and beyond help. He had been restrained, duct-taped, beaten,
17:36and strangled. The manner of death will be released by the Vandenberg County Coroner's Office at a later
17:41time.
17:44All right. Just hang on. We'll get it all sorted out.
17:57Oh, my God.
18:11Right over here.
18:32Right here.
18:33It's Wednesday morning now. I want to go back about 24 hours, maybe a little more,
18:45and I want you to kind of walk me through what your day was like.
18:48Um, Carrie pushed me to, you know, just like randomly find a woman that we could hook up with.
18:56Right.
18:56So I do that, and I talk to this chick that's Amanda. Well, she has a boyfriend, okay?
19:02Mm-hmm.
19:03And she was wanting to come over and have her boyfriend come with. I told Carrie,
19:07and he, he said no. So that didn't happen. Well, then, fast forward. One day, I don't
19:12think I've seen him Monday evening. Amanda said something about coming over, and I did make a
19:16comment. I said, um, your boyfriend's gonna watch or something.
19:19Uh, and what happened once they got there? Did anything, like, sexual happen?
19:25Mm-hmm.
19:25Okay. Did anybody else come in?
19:28Carrie.
19:28What happened when Carrie showed up?
19:30Um, he was very mad. He was arguing and stuff, and, um, he just wasn't comfortable with
19:36another man being there and everything.
19:38Mm-hmm.
19:39He, he had hit him, he had hit her, and he, uh, had punched him, and he grabbed
19:45and killed him with his bare hands.
19:48Did he ever do anything to her?
19:49Yeah.
19:50What did he do to her?
19:51Oh, he did sexual things to her. Um, he, he hit her, um.
19:56Did you call 9-1-1?
19:59I couldn't call 9-1-1. I couldn't be the one that could, that standoff
20:03shit happened, or.
20:03Why didn't you call 9-1-1?
20:05Because I called 9-1-1, I'm the reason why the cops come, and I'm the reason why he
20:09ended up killing everybody in the house. Like, I, I, he wanted, he wanted so, like,
20:14so, I was, I was wrong, was it wrong?
20:16He'd been tied up and raped a girl in front of you.
20:19Yes.
20:19You didn't think to call 9-1-1?
20:20Oh, I can't, um, can I go upstairs, because I'm, there's, I don't even know if they're
20:33shot, you don't.
20:33I understand.
20:36So, what happened with Cynthia? Did she help you guys clean?
20:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
20:41Did you ever tell her she couldn't leave?
20:43No, I never told her that.
20:44Mm-hmm.
20:44I mean, I.
20:45Okay, uh, give me just a minute, I'll be right back, okay?
20:50Okay, thank you.
20:52Can you use the bathroom or anything?
20:54Yeah, actually.
20:54Okay, hang tight for just a second.
20:56Okay.
21:09I, I really appreciate you taking the time to talk to me.
21:13Um, so, Heidi's there, Carrie's there, hits Tim with the bat, hits you with the bat,
21:20restrains you, okay?
21:22Well, what happened after that?
21:23He raped me.
21:25Eddie was there, too.
21:27She wasn't touching me, but she was there and encouraging him.
21:31And then he would come in and he would hold a gun up to me.
21:33And what happened after that?
21:36Yeah.
21:37Um, Carrie came in and he started to wrap the belt around his neck.
21:40And Carrie stood there and he just, he kept holding it and he was like, did you think you
21:46guys were going to get out of this?
21:49They told us the entire time that that's what they were doing, they were going to kill us.
21:53Well, what happened after that?
21:55I woke up at some point and he was wrapped up in a blanket.
21:58Mm-hmm.
22:01They pulled him out, but I don't know where they were taking him.
22:04Okay.
22:05Who moved him?
22:07Carrie and Heidi.
22:09Well, uh, Amanda, I'm sorry if I had to go through all this.
22:13Um, uh, Carrie did not survive, so.
22:17And we're going to make sure that the people are held accountable, okay?
22:30Okay.
22:31Can you see her?
22:32Yeah.
22:32Okay, good.
22:33Good.
22:35Are we okay to keep talking?
22:36Um, yeah.
22:38So there's some things that Amanda told me at the hospital that don't exactly line up with
22:44what you're telling me.
22:45Uh, like, you helped restrain her.
22:51You helped tape up Tim.
22:53Uh, you encouraged him while he was raping her.
22:56I encouraged him.
22:57That you had the gun in that room and made threats to both of them to kill them both.
23:04I think, uh, the way she tells it, you were a lot more involved in what you're telling me here.
23:19I'm a, I'm a lot more involved?
23:21Like, uh, like, how would I be a lot more involved?
23:24What happened in the room?
23:25Like, oh, I have two shirts on.
23:26Can I take this one off?
23:27I guess you need to.
23:28All right.
23:28Um, ultimately, you did nothing to help them.
23:35In the beginning, and then, because he even said, because I didn't, I did nothing to help him?
23:41No.
23:41What are you doing?
23:42Okay.
23:43You could have done a million different things to get him.
23:45You're saying I did the same as him?
23:47I'm, uh, what are you saying?
23:48Yeah.
23:49For the crimes that took place in your house, you are just as much as responsible as he is.
23:55Absolutely.
23:58All right.
23:59Well, I'm gonna go for now.
24:02Okay.
24:02I haven't talked to the prosecutor, but there'll be charges stemming from what happened in your house.
24:12Heidi Carter was arrested and booked to the following charges.
24:16Murder, rape, two counts of felony, criminal confinement,
24:21assisting a criminal, carrying a handgun without a license,
24:24and abuse of a corpse.
24:48She needed to pay for her part in it because she was acting like she was a victim,
24:53and Tim was the victim.
24:56He fought like hell.
24:59He fought to the last breath.
25:00And now that that trial is finally over,
25:12CB tells me she's grateful for the chance to reconnect with her now 19-year-old daughter,
25:17who's been by her side during this recovery process.
25:20I caught lax towing.
25:32He, uh, is an inexperienced driver.
25:36Okay.
25:36Oh, yep.
25:38I just got out and, like, just looked around for a moment.
25:53And when he went to get back in, he wasn't able because of the angle to pull it out.
25:58I don't know.
25:58He's right there if you want to talk to him.
25:59Okay.
26:00We'll talk.
26:01Hey, partner, come on.
26:01Talk to me real quick.
26:02Sure.
26:02I appreciate it, man.
26:03I'm really cold.
26:04Is it okay if it's in here?
26:05Because it's fine.
26:06He can't hold his pants because he had the rest of mine.
26:08That's fine.
26:08I did not know that.
26:10No, that's...
26:11Please stay in the car, all right?
26:14Nobody else in the car?
26:15No, okay.
26:16Just us.
26:16I'm the father.
26:17That's the mother.
26:17That's the best son.
26:18He just brought us 20 minutes ago and said,
26:20Dad, I parked for the boat ramp and I messed up.
26:22I tried to get out of the car and slid down.
26:24Well, you're not hurt, right?
26:25You're okay?
26:25No, just a little cold is all.
26:27Thankfully.
26:28What were you doing down here, bud?
26:29Well, I felt like I needed to get out, like...
26:31Okay.
26:32And I figured, why not park here and just...
26:35Just relax a little bit?
26:36Just relax and think.
26:37Okay.
26:38And I parked on the boat ramp and I thought it would be easy to get out.
26:41Uh-huh.
26:41But yeah, then...
26:43Yeah, then it slid into the river.
26:45I was able to get out.
26:47We've called so many killing companies and nobody can help us.
26:51And then one of them said, just call the state police.
26:52I'll help you out.
26:53Let me cope this way.
26:54Just see how we're going to handle this, man.
26:57Sorry?
26:57Is he free to go?
26:59I'm sure he'd like to go home and get warm.
27:00Yeah, it's not a crash.
27:02It's...
27:03Okay.
27:03This is stupid.
27:04I don't.
27:07All right.
27:07I'm going to take him home then and then we'll come back.
27:11Okay, quick question for you.
27:17Sure.
27:18The back bumper, I don't know, you can probably see it from here.
27:24There's a lot of red on the back of that.
27:26Yeah.
27:27Drip it down at all a little bit, but underneath the license plate, a little area right there.
27:32Okay.
27:35Okay.
27:35A lot of red.
27:37It looks like blood.
27:39It looks like blood.
27:41Blood?
27:42Yeah.
27:43I don't know if your...
27:44Did your son hurt himself on his way out at all?
27:45I don't know.
27:46He might have, but he just didn't know it.
27:47I don't know.
27:48That's why I'm asking.
27:49It's a good question.
27:50He's at home.
27:51We should make sure he's not got a cut or...
27:53Something out on him somewhere that he doesn't know.
27:55I don't know.
27:56I don't know.
27:57I don't know.
27:58I don't know.
27:59I don't know.
28:00I don't know.
28:01I don't know.
28:02That's why I'm asking.
28:02It's a good question.
28:03He's at home.
28:04We should make sure he's not got a cut or...
28:05He said he's going to bed.
28:07Something out on him somewhere that he's not aware of.
28:09Maybe because his adrenaline was a little high.
28:11Maybe just have him do like a self-check.
28:14Make sure he's okay.
28:17Hello?
28:18Brian, are you okay?
28:20They see blood on the back bumper of the vehicle.
28:24Really?
28:25Yeah.
28:26Did you get hurt?
28:27No, I'm fine.
28:33There's blood on it?
28:37Is it good?
28:38My car good?
28:39No, Brian.
28:39They're trying to get it out.
28:40It's fine.
28:41We'll call you back.
28:42I'm going to move my car.
28:48I'm going to warm up while he works.
28:49Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
28:51I'm going to go sit in my car.
28:57I found something in my son's closet wrapped in a plastic bag.
29:13Okay.
29:13What was it?
29:15I think it's a human head.
29:20It's a what?
29:21I think it's a human head.
29:23Why do you think it's that?
29:24Because it looks like it's all an ear.
29:29Is it all, is it bloody or does it, like, anything like that?
29:31I just need to come.
29:33Don't do I have to.
29:55Can you walk me inside?
29:57Let me do it.
29:57Let's sit down.
29:58Come on, sit down, please.
30:00Can I go in there and verify here first?
30:02Oh, yeah, please.
30:03We haven't seen it yet.
30:03We never looked at it.
30:04It's under the towel.
30:05It's the same thing.
30:05Okay.
30:12Stay with you, Marvin.
30:12Get up.
30:17I have to take it.
30:17You can go in the same place.
30:18Okay.
30:19Uh, well, okay.
30:20Stay right there.
30:20No, no, no, no.
30:21Yeah.
30:22Top 10.
30:23Okay.
30:23I had a bad feeling about what happened this weekend.
30:27Okay.
30:27She said there's a bag in this closet, and she opened it up.
30:31And she called me and said, get over here right now.
30:37I caught her with the towel.
30:39Okay.
30:39Let me see it, because we didn't want him to run.
30:41I don't want to look at it.
30:47That was a thing.
30:48Yeah.
30:49Yeah.
30:53I don't know.
30:55I don't know.
31:052242, are you clear for a call?
31:08Yeah, you might want to call investigations.
31:11The head's in the sink.
31:12What's that?
31:13Does it sound by my voice that it looks real?
31:15No, it is.
31:19There's no denying it.
31:27He left Friday night, late in the morning.
31:30Our phone rings at my house.
31:33Dad, this is Brian.
31:34My son, Brian.
31:35Same name, same birthday.
31:36Jeff, my first one.
31:38My car's stuck in the river.
31:41Wait, wait, wait, what?
31:42So we go there, and he gives us a song and dance.
31:44How it was a full moon.
31:45He wanted to pull down into the water.
31:47And next thing you know, since it's a one-wheel drive,
31:49we tried to put it in reverse, and the car started sliding.
31:51And next thing you know, he ended up in a roof.
31:52So we get there to pick him up.
31:54We call the police.
31:55So they call the tow truck company.
31:57Where's the car?
31:58It's all blood all over.
31:58Where's the car?
31:59Where is the car?
32:00So we told it to Scotty to see if they could fix it.
32:02So I called Scotty and said, don't touch it.
32:04I already called him and said, don't touch it.
32:06Nothing was taken out of the vehicle?
32:07Yes, I did.
32:08What did you take out of the vehicle?
32:09I cleaned it up.
32:10So I put out bottles of this.
32:12And I'm like, Brian, why is it all in your car?
32:15Dad, I don't feel safe.
32:16There's a wallet in the car.
32:17And I'm like, Brian, whose wallet?
32:18Oh, I found just a boat lamp.
32:20Um, everything incriminating stuff.
32:22Do you know where that stuff is?
32:24Yes, it's all at the house.
32:27Yeah, it should be a green passenger car.
32:28His car should be at Scotty's, and it should be a green passenger car.
32:33Okay, we'll work on that now.
32:35I can't believe it.
32:37Oh my God.
32:39It's kind of a time to not really know what to do, so.
32:44I don't know what happened.
32:45They ran them too.
32:48I don't get it.
32:49I don't have any answers.
32:51How old is Brian?
32:52He's 19.
32:53He's 19.
32:54Yeah.
32:5419.
32:55Mom, what's your, what's your name?
32:59My name is Terry.
33:00Terry, okay.
33:01Are you okay?
33:01Do you need anything medical?
33:02Well, we're waiting on a call from my doctor.
33:05Okay, okay.
33:06So like I said, we've got an investigation unit that's going to come here.
33:09So, just, I know you guys have a lot going on right now.
33:12It's a lot to process, so we'll work with you every step of the way as much as we can.
33:17All right, so hang tight right here.
33:19I got to chat with my partners again, okay?
33:20What's going on, man?
33:47Okay, so parents have some concerns
33:50of some stuff they may have found in your room?
33:52Um, yeah, I believe so.
33:55And what would it be?
33:59A human head and hands.
34:05Like, for real human head and hands?
34:07Yes.
34:07From?
34:10That fellow who went missing recently.
34:11Which fellow was that?
34:13Warren Brown.
34:15When did he go missing?
34:17The night of the 27th.
34:21Okay.
34:21And how did you end up with him?
34:24I murdered him.
34:25With what?
34:27A knife.
34:28Okay.
34:28Do you have anything on?
34:29He's going to cut, poke, hurt, stigma, anything without reaching for nothing?
34:32Don't reach for nothing.
34:32Okay.
34:33My phone and my wallet.
34:34That's it.
34:35Okay.
34:35Well, I'm going to have you face that way.
34:36Put your hands on top of your head for me real quick.
34:37I just want to make sure that interlates your fingers for me real quick.
34:39All right.
34:40Go ahead.
34:43Okay.
34:43And where's the rest of his body at?
34:46Huh?
34:46Where's the rest of the body at?
34:48What parts?
34:49The body, Brian.
34:50Where's his body?
34:51Down the river.
34:53Okay.
34:54I'm going to have you walk over here.
34:55You're going to sit in the back of my partner's control bar for a minute, okay?
34:58Just sit back there and hang out for me, okay?
34:59How are you?
35:00I'm good, sir.
35:00How are you?
35:01You said your name is Brian?
35:02Yeah.
35:02Yeah.
35:03I'm not feeling too well.
35:04You're not feeling too well?
35:05I know these past few days I've been very, very anxious.
35:08That's understandable.
35:09So what we're going to have you do here is I'm just going to have you sit in the back here, okay?
35:12Uh-huh.
35:12I'm going to turn on the air for you in a second.
35:15That way you're not too hot.
35:16Are you a hot-blooded or cold-blooded kind of guy?
35:18I am very cold-blooded.
35:20I prefer cold.
35:21Well, no.
35:21Actually, sorry.
35:22Hot with.
35:23Hot with.
35:23So you prefer the cold.
35:24Okay, fantastic.
35:25All right.
35:26So hop in here.
35:26I know you're tall, so it's a little bit of a tight squeeze.
35:28But like I said, I'll get that air on for you.
35:30Sorry about that.
35:31All right.
35:31Okay, so I'm going to have investigators come out here to talk and do everything.
35:38We'll keep everybody out of the house so I can just secure the house because we'll have
35:41to do a search warrant and all that stuff, okay?
35:44All right.
35:44Okay.
35:45All right.
35:45Can I go in and get my things?
35:47Mm-hmm.
35:47Like my hair dryer and my deodorant?
35:49Uh, not for right now.
35:52We're just going to leave it the way it is.
35:55I'm having the suspect head to the sheriff's office now.
35:58Just take him down to investigations.
36:01All right, Brian.
36:06We're headed to the sheriff's office.
36:11Okay, Brian.
36:15No problem, sir.
36:24So have a seat and we'll be with you in a moment, okay?
36:27Okay.
36:28Thanks, Brian.
36:31Okay.
36:36Well, this is Lisa.
36:37Hi, how are you?
36:39I'm okay.
36:39Good day.
36:40It's never really good.
36:41Just okay.
36:42Okay.
36:43Can you have any seats?
36:44Um, sure.
36:45Ooh, this is a special chair.
36:47No, this is a special chair because it's softer, and I'm worried.
36:53So, we never met, have we?
36:54No.
36:55Okay.
36:56And how did you get here?
36:58So, because, I mean, I'm already going to jail for this 15 years, probably?
37:03Well, I figured, oh, I fight it.
37:05Okay.
37:06Um, let's see.
37:08Yeah, it was the night of February 27th.
37:12It was a full moon.
37:13I'm cruising around, and I'm eventually driving underneath the bridge near the sheriff's office.
37:22I'm like, how can I?
37:24Can I?
37:25Oh, yeah.
37:25Go ahead.
37:32So, let's just say this is the office, right?
37:35Take a turn, and here is the bridge.
37:39And it was right here.
37:42And I was driving along, and I see a shape here on the railway track, wrapped in a canvas.
37:49So, I'm like, oh, interesting.
37:53That's a homeless person.
37:55So, I grabbed my knife, and I took the knife.
37:58I pulled back the canvas, and I stabbed his neck.
38:02And I said, I've been wanting to do this for a long time.
38:08And when I was finished stabbing him, he took out his last breath, a grunt.
38:14And then, I cut off his head, and I took the head, put it in a leftover pizza box from the dinner
38:22a few nights to do.
38:24I cut off his hands.
38:25I put those in plastic Ziploc bags.
38:28And then, I cut off his right arm, threw it out, took the left armpit, threw it out.
38:37So, it's somewhere around that bridge?
38:38It's, yeah, they're still there.
38:41They're where all the blood is.
38:44Were you worried about, like, leaving evidence behind or being caught?
38:47Totally.
38:48So, tell me about that and what you did there.
38:51I'm going to try going to sleep, but I was worried.
38:55I decided that's too much evidence.
38:57The body needs to be dumped in a river.
39:00Okay.
39:00God knows where he is now.
39:02So, keep an eye out for any river-related activities.
39:06Okay.
39:21Yeah.
39:37It's right here.
39:40Yeah.
39:41Because there's an arm.
39:43There's an arm.
39:44There's another arm.
39:47Do some pictures.
39:48Right.
39:50Here's a leg.
39:53Well, it could be the upper arm or a leg.
39:55Well, there's three.
39:57There, there, and there.
39:58Just yellow tape it and then hold it.
40:02Because the potential is that there's a secondary by the boat launch.
40:07But if we can get the lab out here, that would be the best thing.
40:11Yeah.
40:11Get forensics out of here.
40:13Holy hell.
40:14Yeah.
40:15Well, I'm done.
40:18You know, Brian, I have to ask, and I think you've answered it, but I'm not 100% sure.
40:31You said you've thought about doing this.
40:33Yeah.
40:34Yeah.
40:35Um, have you ever done it before?
40:37No.
40:38No.
40:39Okay.
40:39You gotta ask, right?
40:40Yeah.
40:42I'm not a serial killer, by no means.
40:44I mean, I'm very curious.
40:48How do you feel about all this now?
40:54I mean, the next 15 years of my life, book set in stone, prison.
41:00Um, if I go back that night, I wouldn't have done it, knowing that, knowing what it felt
41:11like, knowing how this wall turned out, I wouldn't have done it.
41:16The sentencing hearing started with the outpouring of grief for Warren Barnes, a beloved member of
41:31the downtown community, especially Terry Cohee, the defendant's mother.
41:35And the lesson I took from this, no matter who you are, no matter where you are or what
41:48you do, you are loved just like Warren, and you will be missed.
