00:00Future U.S. sanctions on Russia will depend on progress in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine,
00:05according to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besson.
00:09Besson says Washington is ready to impose additional measures if talks stall,
00:14including sanctions targeting Russia's so-called shadow fleet,
00:18which moves oil outside existing restrictions.
00:22He recently participated in talks in Miami with Russian officials,
00:26joined by U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff and U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
00:32Speaking at the Senate hearing, Besson said current U.S. sanctions have been a key factor in bringing Moscow to the negotiating table.
00:40Those include measures on major Russian oil companies such as Rosneft and Luke Oil.
00:45He also said Trump has not introduced new sanctions on Russia's shadow fleet since returning to office in January 2025.
