05:38This is Janet Jessen, everyone. And this is you, Sarah, everyone. Welcome to my Essence Cover Sheet.
06:08Janet, it's a wrap. Thank you so much. Woo! Thank you, everyone.
06:25As males get older, we become more distinguished, for lack of a better word. And for females, it's more like, y'all get names like Cougar and Auntie and things of that nature.
06:35They count y'all out way too early, man, because if Angela Bassett is a testament to what an older woman, more mature woman can be, man, then I want to go that route.
06:48What's good, y'all? This is Method Man right here, and this is my Essence Uncovered. My Essence stays covered, though, but this is my Essence Uncovered.
06:58Y'all be good.
06:58Having an Essence Covered mean to me? When I get one, I'll let your ass know. This is the digital cover.
07:07The physical copy magazine that I grew up on? That would mean the world. This is great.
07:13I love the fact that you guys even thought of me for this, and I am truly honored.
07:17I've won a Grammy, and I recently got my first acting award, and that was from the NAACP, Image Award.
07:25I covet that award more than the Grammy any day, because that came from my audience, my people, and they love me.
07:32And I'll take that over anything.
07:34So for Essence, after all these years of me being in the business, to be here right now speaks volumes, volumes to my journey, as well as, you know, the classiness of this magazine.
07:50It just got a little bit more classy.
07:52Yes.
07:53You can't do both. I tried it, and it didn't work out for me. That's why I took a long hiatus from acting, or acting took a long hiatus from my ass. Let's put it that way.
08:10There were shows being missed, of course, studio albums not being made, because I was way more into my acting than music.
08:19I haven't met one person that's acting and singing, and they're doing both, and it's working for them, with the exception of J.Lo, because J.Lo does every f***ing thing.
08:28She's the best at it. Don't at me.
08:32I was in a group that meant a lot to its audience. We never compromised ourselves, and they respected that.
08:39So why not 25, 26 years from there still have a career, because, you know, you can't pay the buck.
08:46I mean, I've always been myself, so, and nothing's changed, so the audience should still be there, and we're blessed to still have the audience there. That's all I can say.
08:56How important has physical fitness been to my overall well-being?
08:59When I started, um, big depressed, insomnia, a bunch of things going on.
09:04For me, it was, if I'm going to get my mind right, my body might as well be right.
09:08Why, you know, exercise the mind and not exercise the body? It doesn't make sense.
09:12It was just a transition for me. I feel like, if I can do it, anybody could do it.
09:27Hey, this is Summer Walker, and we're on set for my Essence magazine cover sheet.
09:32We're in Texas.
09:34We're looking at our split Vet.
09:48We're looking at our other side, and it's pretty cool.
09:50We're looking at her ass.
09:59We're looking at her.
12:09I have a little excited.
12:11get to see it through me a girl from east baltimore who had big dreams and big visions and was able
12:18to manifest them that landed me to this opportunity here and that's what we're going to ask them so
12:23i'm excited i feel good how do you feel i'm still living in the moment you know it's funny because
12:29as entrepreneurs we always talk about being on big platforms and letting the world know about
12:34our organizations and now they're about to see you know that two entrepreneurs that have restaurants
12:39what we stand for the mission that we're on and it's so you know we're so grateful that yeah it feels
12:45like a dream and to be able to have uh my friends and family witness this moment and to be able to
12:52walk into a store and we pick ourselves up off the shelf like that's priceless you can't pay for that
12:57so i'm excited that that what we've built has gotten us here and i'm even more excited to know
13:03that this is only the beginning yeah and for me i get to see uh well my 88 year old grandmother she
13:08get to see you know me in the markets you know she raised me i told her when i started this business
13:14when i was losing all my family that she would see her grandson break barriers and that's what i'm
13:19doing you know you got to try to figure out you know what's important and still try to keep time for
13:23everything in your life that you love but this is the part that's building the part that's going to
13:27take care of what you love so you got to leverage that out so when people say uh make time and do this and
13:33do that yes you have to make time for your loved ones because that's important but i also got to get to this bag
13:37so i can help my loved ones when i ain't here no more so i think that is the most important thing
13:42right now is managing and leveraging the time and that's what we're both working on i think we're
13:46doing a good job at you know what we got in our lives going on you're doing a great job yeah
13:59good job
14:02can't ball in my life man
14:08go on with it
14:08go on with it
